PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

ADD 1 TUESDAY Election Day — It’s been a long, tiring campaign for both candidates. It culminates today.

THE PLANET hopes that if you have the vote, you exercise that precious franchise. We won’t get into the rah-rah about how men and women have given their lives. You already know that. At the same time, don’t take lightly this constitutional privilege.

Vote. That’s all you can do. After that it’s out of your hands.

———- ooo ———-

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY NOV. 6, 2023) — It all comes down to tomorrow, Election Day, in the dirtiest campaign in muni memory. We shall all need long, hot showers after this one.

Team Marchetti, with a healthy assist from the local daily, began the slimefest with the hit piece against John Krol, published Sept. 20, the day after the primary.

Victoria May filing her sexual harassment lawsuit Sept. 11 naming Peter Marchetti on several counts, along with Pittsfield Cooperative Bank CEO “Jay” Anderson and senior VP “Chip” Moore, made it important for the Marchetti people to publish the Animal Dreams story ASAP.

They couldn’t risk being preempted by news of the lawsuit. Give them credit. They managed to keep news of the suit quiet until late in the game, when THE PLANET spoiled the no-hitter.

———- ooo ———-

Despite Peter Marchetti’s personal pledge in our March sit-down together (available on THE PLANET‘s YouTube Channel, PLANET VALENTI VIDEO), his team didn’t campaign that way.  The Machiavelli in THE PLANET musters an understanding of the tactic bordering on admiration. It shows a win at all costs mentality. Isn’t that the point of an election? You can’t govern if you don’t win.

The Voice of the Little Guy in us, however, decries the shunting aside of “what’s right” that winning can foment in the desirous heart. Such behavior automatically shifts our enthusiasms for the underdog. That’s John Krol.

And what of Peter Marchetti’s job status? Currently, he says he’s “on leave” from his six-figure job at Pittsfield Cooperative Bank (he’ll have to take a pay cut, he says, if he becomes mayor, meaning he’ll have to scrape by on $105,698 + bennies). Sources claiming Anderson as a source says yes he’s been fired and no he hasn’t.

No one, though, has answered the only relevant question: Does Marchetti have his job waiting for him at the Co-Op should he lose tomorrow to Krol? Likely the only way we’ll know for sure is if Marchetti loses.

Since our revelation about the lawsuit, Marchetti’s advisers have told Peter to avoid contacting THE PLANET or responding to our queries. This signals that they see their boy to be in the lead. They’re playing the free-vent defense.

THE PLANET gets that, as well. If we were advising him, we would tell him the same thing. The message: “Don’t you dare say anything to THE PLANET. You are in the lead. Valenti’s not afraid to probe, and you rattle easily. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose.” The journalist in us, though, loathes that type of backing in, that running away from accountability and transparency.

———- ooo ———-

Will Marchetti win? Let’s put it this way: It’s his to lose. Of course, that’s how it was in his first bid for mayor. It was his to lose, and he lost.

Will he do so again? The answer depends on how successfully Krol has energized his core and how effective that base was at evangelization. Team Krol relied a lot on door-to-door, person-to-person canvassing, banking on word of mouth: 1 tells 2, 2 tells 4, 4 tells 8 and so on.

If they bring new voters to the polls tomorrow in sufficient quantity, Krol scores an upset. If turnout hovers in the usual dismal range, practice saying “Mayor Marchetti.”

THE PLANET wishes both men good luck.

———- ooo ———-

THE PLANET’s ENDORSEMENTS

MAYOR

We endorse Krol. He has offered specific, pragmatic solutions to the city’s ulcerations. The two most important are his promise of audits for the general ledgers and the suspicious (and capricious) ARPA freebies. Marchetti has avoided specifics, choosing to play it safe with boilerplate, cliches, and gobbledygook.

ENDORSEMENT: KROL FOR MAYOR.

CITY COUNCIL, WARD RACES

The incumbents in Wards 1, 4, and 5 are running unopposed. Warren, Conant, and Kavey will vote for themselves and win in a landslide.

WARD 2: Alex Blumin v. Brittany Bandini. Blumin has been active in city politics, earning the role of super citizen. He immigrated from the Ukraine legally, learned the language, and became an entrepreneur. What’s not to like? Bandini is a lawyer. Insert your own joke.

ENDORSEMENT: BLUMIN IN WARD 2

WARD 3: Matt Wrinn vs. Bill Tyer. Wrinn has shown the right amount of “tin tin” by at least campaigning. Tyer has been a no-show. No one deserves to win that way.

ENDORSEMENT: WRINN IN WARD 3

WARD 6: Craig Gaetani vs. Dina Lampiasi (I). Gaetani needs no introduction. No private citizens attends more meetings or dares to question city policy than Craig Gaetani. Moreover, he brings acute scientific know-how to the show, and he will use that to help straighten out the mess the city has made of water and sewer. Lampiasi has a track record. Nuff Ced. It’s the citizens and taxpayers who will lose if she wins another term.

ENDORSEMENT: GAETANI IN WARD 6

WARD 7: Rhonda Serre vs. Tony Maffuccio. Spunky Serre wears the pants in the race. She’s got a loud personality and won’t be afraid to speak out and speak up. On what side of the issues? Who knows, but anything’s better than the “no show” lame effort put inky Maffuccio, whose political shelf life expired about two years ago.

ENDORSEMENT: SERRE IN WRD 7

AT-LARGE: Pete White, Craig Benoit, Kathy Amuso, Dan Miraglia, Alisa Costa, Earl Persip, Lucas Marion. Vote for four.

ENDORSEMENT: BULLET VOTE FOR BENOIT AND MIRAGLIA.

———- ooo ———-

Every vote will count. Some will be counted twice. Some will be counted that should be not counted because of ballot improprieties. Of course, who are we to question election miracles, where for one day every four years, the dead come back to life to cast ballots?

Happy voting!

The man is still a Putz.

If he ran for school committee he most surely would have won. He is so dumb he didn’t realize that and ran for Ward 3 where he stood no chance.

Thank You Charles, In my defense, Yes, I wasn’t physically on the “trail” for the last month. I was having and recovering from Lung surgeries. What I had hoped would have been a simple in and out procedure, turned into complications, more trips to the operating room, and a month of in hospital treatment. After coming home Oct 27th, I was taken back to BMC with Pneumonia. During this time, I was not totally absent, I was always informed about issues within ward 3 and the city as a whole. I was able to still get neighborhood drainage problems looked at, pot holes filled in a timely manor, made sure streets were paved and worked with others on the future paving schedule for next year. I talked with many about the needs relative to the good, bad and the ugliest involving the city budget and how the process can improve in the future. I also managed to do a meet and greet, raised little, but some campaign funds, and put out a small mailing. I would have loved to have campaigned harder, more physically, but it wasn’t in the cards this election cycle. This is not an excuse, just an explanation. I have never ever in the 40 years of public service experience cared thing one about a publications endorsement, nor have I out right avoided questions from the press or voters. I ask the voters, for their endorsement and consideration when they vote.

Hello blogger Dan Valenti,

Things got UGLY – even F*ugly – in Pittsfield politics in 2023. The Berkshire Eagle lived up to its yellow rag status by dropping a half-truth filled bombshell on John Krol, who was never charged with a crime in his life. Peter Marchetti plays the sweetheart gay man card, but the sex discrimination hostile workplace violations complaints in Federal Court, along with the named and unnamed people alleging John Krol is an EMBEZZLER, showed his dark side. If a would-be Mayor Peter Marchetti calls women city employees “BITCH”, then it will be the taxpayers will be paying for his temper tantrums. I cannot endorse either John Krol or Peter Marchetti for Mayor of Pittsfield politics. It is “A Tale of Two Weasels”!

Every citywide election going back decades is always decided by Ward 4, which is Pittsfield’s wealthiest Ward. Ward 3 is also a solid voting block. The other 5 city Wards focus more on their respective City Councilors’ elections. There are usually one or two dissenting voices and votes on the City Council, but the fix is always in.

The Pittsfield School Committee is Exhibit A in FAILURE! They oversee Level 5 public schools – the WORST rating – and they see over 650 students per academic school year choice out to neighboring public school districts. They charge taxpayers top dollar – well over $100 million per fiscal year by some estimates – in return for rock bottom results. They choose insider-only public school district administrators who go along with the Mayor and School Committee members instead of improving the academic performance of the public school system.

I disliked Josh Landes of WAMC’s radio news hit piece on Alex Blumin. He portrayed Alex Blumin as an intimidating and threatening person in Pittsfield politics. Unlike Peter Marchetti allegedly calling bank employees: “BITCH”, I haven’t heard of Alex Blumin calling city employees; “BITCH”. Alex Blumin is eccentric and passionate about municipal government matters. He is a conservative voice in a liberal city and state. A while back, Josh Landes of WAMC also unfavorably covered Charles Ivar Kronick. All three good men are Jewish.

Jimmy Ruberto’s letter endorsing John Krol for Mayor seemed to call out Mayor Linda Tyer for leading the city is the wrong direction, but claiming that a would-be John Krol could right the ship like he did in the mid-2000s. Jimmy Ruberto was a failure as Mayor of Pittsfield, but to be fair the 2008 economic recession was the worst downturn since the Great Depression in the 1930s. After Jimmy Ruberto’s 8 years as Mayor of Pittsfield, it is clear that he did not deliver on most of his campaign promises. Jimmy Ruberto was a Linda Tyer for Mayor supporter in 2015 and 2019. I wonder what happened between them over the past couple of years. Jimmy Ruberto signs his letters from Lenox (Mass.) and Naples, Florida, NOT from Pittsfield!

Lastly, the real winners in Pittsfield politics will be Mayor Linda Tyer and Matt Kerwood after they both retire in early-January 2024 and then collect their 6-figure city public pensions plus perks for life. Sarcasm: Congratulations to those two weasels for cashing in!

My vote will go to the people who state they will investigate the 2 ladies who oversaw the ARPA money and what they did to deserve $100,000. Also who will push for an audit of all the city finances, who will work to consolidate the schools and sell some of their buildings. I will also vote for the people who will invigorate the city to get businesses to move/start here, lower taxes and BE TRANSPARENT!! Also the people who I will vote for will allow citizens to talk before the city council meeting and they will pay attention and show respect.
I guess that means I will be voting for people not on the ballot!!

This is the most exciting race Pittsfield has had in decades. Real change needs to take place or all good families will end up leaving, leaving a cesspool of government funded bottom dwellers, and that’s exactly what the Marchetti team is striving for. They don’t care about the people here, they care about their bank accounts and they all know it.

It is pretty much a foregone conclusion that either of these guys will disappoint in a big way. We know it and they know it. We are concerned, they are not. We have different goals. Sadly, there is no longer any way to stop this ill fated train wreck. Therefore.
What taxpayers really need at this moment is someone, preferably with some legal experience, to take the reins and so some research on a recall effort. Do the legwork and prep. Wave it in the face of whomever becomes mayor AND CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT. And at the first sign of things going sideways start the goddamn process. Some of you will want to comment that this thinking is premature. It is not. Again. It is not.

So where is the ethics commission or the electoral policy laws? Where are they exactly as far as letting two questionable and possible future court decisions concerning these accusations of impropriety against the two candidates? These are serious charges if convicted. And more serious considering either could be your Mayor? Doesn’t the voter have the right to know?

You gotta Laugh at that question and answers in the at-large debate, you pick a number supposedly you don’t know what the questions gonna be? Think about? if you know the question by the number that’s it’s inside the envelope you pick the number. Heres my point, iwhy don’t they just have 10 blank envelopes in a hat and have the moderator just pick out an envelope after shuffling them. That would relieve all doubt. Seemed at least two council candidates were really prepared to answer after choosing their numbers.

I have no doubt that Marchetti will win now since all we have learned in the last few weeks. Let’s all understand that all of the mayors inniatives weren’t invented by herself. The city council votes Favorably no matter what they are. But how many of these gobsig initiatives are also brought forward by the city councilors themselves. Take a survey and you’ll be suprised at how many ideas we’re also ratified by these six,and how many were shot down that the minority of five.wanted. That’s why it’s critical to get someone on the city Council to balance the vote by changing it,.the council. Vote newcomers.

Both White and Persip were against forensic audit. All at-large are for that.

Bullet vote Beloit for at large councilor. Miraglia wants to tax use of city lakes!

Krol is unemployed, owns no property in the city, and allegedly made TEN withdrawals from a charity to cover his personal & business debts. Did he ever pay his business taxes? Why did he haul out of the city back in 2019? He has a history of making empty promises.

And remember Dan’s words – “lies win elections.” Consider the facts and not Dan’s opinions.

In 9 days on November 15th, 2023, Tricia, Smitty, John & Paul will begin their over 6-weeks-long taxpayer-funded vacation from the Beacon Hill Statehouse. When they go back to Boston in the New Year 2024, they will meet from January to the end of July, and then they will go on a 5-months-long taxpayer funded vacation from August 1st, 2024 – December 31st, 2024. It must be nice to be the three State Representatives and one State Senator from Berkshire County when they get weeks and months off at a time.

Smitty Pignatelli has been in Boston for almost 21 years now. Tricia Farley Bouvier has been in Boston for a little over 12 years now. John Barrett III has been in Boston for 6 years now, along with decades in other elected offices. Paul Mark has been in Boston for almost 13 years now; he is in his first year as a State Senator.

The sum total years in Boston = 52 combined years in Boston. They are career politicians in Boston for life. They earn 6-figures in state public pay plus perks per fiscal year. In return, the common people have to pay state taxes and pound sand.

On the Federal level, when is the U.S. Congress going to pass the late fiscal year 2024 federal budget, which began on October 1st, 2023? In 11 days, the federal government could shutdown on November 17th, 2023. We have to wait to see what will happen in the Swamp.

Why don’t our elected politicians do their jobs? What do they really do other than raise campaign money?

Here is my election eve predictions:

Voter turnout will be heaver than I originally thought. I put it between 39 and 41%

Marchetti wins by 55 to 57% of votes cast for either gentlemen. This will be the biggest blank race for Mayor in recent history.

Krol loses almost as bad as Bianchi against Tyer. He is going to have to leave the county to get a job, with the whole embezzlement controversy.

Ward 2 – Bandini takes it in a close race. But there is a real chance Blumin wins.

Ward 3 – Wrinn by at least 62%, I’ll go with 65%

Ward 6 – Dina beats Craig 61% to 39%

Ward 7 – Sorry Tony, you lose 62% to 38%

At large, White, Persip, Amuso and Costa are the winners. Luke and Craig come in close for 5th and 6th and its possible one of the two could actually beat Costa for 4th, while Danny boy finished a distant 7th.

You heard it here first.

Mr. World, you lost me at the size of the turnout 40% is delusional to say the least. I may lose ward 3, but by closer to 5-10%, if i don’t pull off a win.

Heard so many people say today that they will be so glad when tomorrow’s mayoral election is over. Willing to bet it won’t be over tomorrow. Envision someone calling a recount, or an investigation into the mail in votes. Now adays elections are not a given. There has been too much crookedness during this mayoral campaign. Alot of unanswered issues from both candidates. The whole campaign has many taxpayers saying they don’t trust both candidates. Whomever gets elected is going to have a very rough time earning the trust of taxpayers as the city is so split on who taxpayers want for mayor.

In my defense, Yes, I wasn’t physically on the “trail” for the last month.

You still didn’t follow through with anything you said before your illness and surgery, many promises and “business tours “‘that we’re never done.. well before you got sick… stop saying you paved the roads! The city does that…
Take care and get off the grid! Let this Wrinn Fellow do the job..

Why is it that “Mr. Worldwide” thinks it is okay to speak of and denigrate a former client? Very unprofessional (and unethical) to reveal information between a client (also former client) and his CPA.
Also makes the CPA complicit with any alleged wrongdoing on the client’s tax filings.
Mr. Worldwide should discontinue his adolescent commentary re: John Krol…and worry about the mess his spouse is leaving the city in.

Could be icy roads on the way to work Thursday morn. Is Tyer up to the task or will she just watch 40 cars smash up and then deny there was ever an ice storm? Is her DPW guy done painting bike lanes? Does Marchetti even know what “sanding the roads” means? Has he finished setting up his new work from home office already?

Krol, will be having a hot chocolate stand to pay for 10 new trucks by Wednesday if elected. They will park next to the new school of plumbing he intends to build at Taconic HS. With the proceeds from his fuzzy math or his Amex card ….oh wait

John Krol opened a credit card for the charity,Why?The credit card was paying Jon Krols bills. John Krol never noticed he had 8700 bucks on a very very slim budget.John got caught and thought he would smile and say he was sorry.Clearly desperate to not have charges brought he went to another friend to bail out the charity. It is a mini Ponzi scheme that was made public because he is running to be our Mayor.I can not support a white collar serious crime. The crime part went away but his buddy was stuck with the loan.John simply can not be Mayor after this.Im fed up with these guys taking money from taxpayers who can’t afford their nonsense to take everyone down that road. There is no proof that these two candidates care about a serious effort to save our budgets from irresponsible spending.Pete has the best chance to show an efficient budget in 4 years. It will start day one when Marchetti announces we will fix the grandstands at Wahconah and not build a new Stadium on the King Street dump and wetland.Wahconah park is the key to where this city is going. If they build a Stadium we must recall Marchetti.

Two things going forward. The garbage and the Wahconah Park restore. What is the exact price tag for both a hauler type vs toter system. On the Park, get the up front money first for either a scaled down model or a full restoration.

Don’t invest anything unless the damn thing is even touched by the flood plain. I tell you the water remediation guaranteed, will be more that both the restoration, scaled down or not.

Bring back the trash to energy station that we let the new company tear down…lots of land and grants at PEDA, could make alot of money charging other towns to bring their garbage to us and then charge for the electricity we sell to the utilities. It would be right on the train line so easy in easy out…screw the other ideas they are costly and mob owned

Let us hope that Mayor Peter Marchetti is able to get through his 4-year term as the next Mayor of Pittsfield politics without anymore controversy so that he will retire with the coveted 6-figure mayoral city public pension plus perks for life, which will be on top of his 35 years bank pension, plus his future monthly Social Security checks. This man will hit the lottery in his Golden Years!

Well, he has a half billion dollar opeb bill. Then he has a nasty ballpark and building repairs and blight everywhere, a police station in disrepair,a blown out of proportion budget, continual panhandling and trafific bike lane confusion. His schools are level 5,continues pot hole problems, sky high water rates and a failng sewer plant. He has a Baron downtown,no housing, homeless living in parks.

Some of my percentages were off, but I called every winner.

Bill Tyer, I was off the most % wise on you. I said you would get 35% of the vote, you only got 21%. Will you go away now? This city isn’t interested in you crap.

Alexander, you only received 26% of the vote. Are you still up for being embarrassed?

Then there is Craig the GOBSIG, only 24% of the vote. Pathetic! I know you are crazy enough to stick around for more punishment.

There you have it folks. Your pride and joy at the bottom of the barrel.

If you hate it here so much, move.

So now we have, save a few loose ends in Ward 1 and 3, the final City Council. Next year, it will be certain to cement the Charter to make sure no one ever messes with it again. They will sit there forever, occasionally handing seats to their friends. Mayor Marchetti will serve a term, and then Mayor Pete White might do two.
