“NO KINGS!” SLOGAL EPITOMIZES A COUNTRY, A CITY THAT’S LOST THE MIDDLE

A Venn diagram template

BY DAN VALENTI

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY SEPT. 15, 2025) — Rod Serling said it best: “There is a middle ground, between light and shadow, between science and superstition, between things and ideas. It lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge.”

That middle ground–in media res–defines the intersecting space in a Venn diagram. This graphical configuration, developed by John Venn in the late 19th century, depicts the logical relationship between and among sets or classifications of various objects. In politics, the Venn area describes the most reasonable position of compromise. Think conservative President Ronald Reagan and progressive House Speaker Tip O’Neill, working from both sides of the aisle, avoiding the radical perimeters of the right and left, and getting things done, for example :

  • Reagan’s tax cuts in 1981
  • Legislation to save Social Security, 1983
  • The tax reform bill of 1986.

None of this happens without bipartisanship.

When a would-be assassin’s bullets felled Reagan, one of the president’s most fervent visitors was O’Neill. Can you imagine Joe Biden of Kamala Harris visiting Donald Trump after he was shot in July of last?

Of course, as we all know by now, the common space, the political Venn, is the on empty. The red warning light has come one, flashing this time with the murder of Charlie Kirk. We in the United States have lost the ability to reason with each other. True debate, honest deliberation, and free discussion are relics of the past. Words have become barbed wire and bullets.

We’ve lost the middle.

Reagan and O’Neill: In the middle.

———- ooo ———-

It’s telling that Kirk’s murder took place on a college campus. THE PLANET wonders what in Bog’s name is taking place in these cradles of “higher education?” A national survey conducted by the Foundation of Individual Rights (FIRE) finds that one-third of all students polled agree that violence, the kind that led to Kirk’s death, is justified to silence what they deem “offensive” speech.

Let that sink in.

How could so many young people believe such a thing?

The middle has been lost.

In a less dramatic but equally symptomatic example, think of the current “No Kings!” slogan. Another “f’rinstance” of this stifling of alternative views is the one-party politics of Massachusetts. In Two-Pete Bitchfield, this cyclops has produced a dysfunctional school system still bound in scandal, a destruction of the middle class, and the highest taxes in the Commonwealth once one factors in discretional spending. It’s also why citizens did not have a September preliminary election. No normal, well-adjusted people want to be lumped with the critters currently holding office.

Such a city stifles opposition, limits citizen input to three minutes, and rigs elections by an active suppression of the electorate. It does this through policies designed to turn civic apathy into personal survival. When you have to decide whether to pay your health insurance premiums or put food on the table, the last thing you will do is think about elections.

“No kings,” indeed.

——————————————————-

I think I know, I mean, uh yes, but it’s all wrong; that is I think I disagree“–John Lennon, “Strawberry Fields.”

“OPEN THE WINDOW, AUNT MILLIE.”

LOVE TO ALL.

Perhaps you would care f you knew Larry gave Pittsfield $1 million dollars to be spent on parks and Pittsfield youngsters. Of course it was squandered by local officials.

The author said 94. It didn’t say he-she cared. If the Generaal hit the streets and asked this question to a hundred homeless or north street under sixties, it’d probably an be even higher percent.

On the donation which by the way was tax deductible but still a very good gesture, that was basically squandered and exposed the committees and futility representing the donation.

Do people know he was born, brought up, educated in Pittsfield schools, always thought of himself as a Pittsfield kid. You do not know this, but I do. This city will miss him. He is a tremendously successful Pittsfield kid. Graduate of Redfield elementary 6th grade. My goodness, we will seriously miss this great man.

OFF TOPIC

Pittsfield school system seems to be having a teacher shortage. Many left and more looking for openings elsewhere. I wonder why. Trying to sell it as a problem everywhere but looks like teachers are bailing Pittsfield to teach elsewhere.

As you sow so shall ye reap. Burying the investigation report burned bridges for many in the system, a system they no longer feel rewarded by and no longer wish to be associated with. Those who fought hardest to keep secrets caused this problem. And they know who they are.
I feel bad for the new hires who may have been unaware of what they were walking into because it may not be an easy situation to fix. At least with truly qualified people. They will probably say they need millions more to hire teachers, enough to make it worth their while to come here. Look for all kinds of dodges and excuses from those in charge but keep in mind what triggered this latest fiasco.

It’s a well known joke. It’s not just the admins, the school cultures are clique and disgusting

I agree Dan. When I see how many have celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk, it’s obvious this country is going dark very quickly. There is no easy solution because what we are seeing is the result of years of our schools, our culture, politicians, and the media all colluding to destroy the family unit and encourage dependence on government and violence when people disagree. The free speech that Charlie Kirk was encouraging and that was welcomed by many students on campus was seen as interfering with the transgender and far left politics indoctrination. Now we have an “assassination culture” so that any conservative who wants to speak on campus needs counter snipers. The first step toward bringing morality back to this country is for everyone to speak out like Charlie Kirk was trying to do.

D-Healey quick as shit called in the NG/Military to remove “migrants”, er CRIMINAL ALIENS, from Migrants , er Martha’s (Obama’s) Vineyard.

Barry didn’t have any extra empty rooms in his MV mansion? She tried to get citizens elsewhere to take them in…..

Where did she “deport” them too? Did the Berkshires get some? She was kicking out Homeless Veterans to make room for them. Also giving them better FREE benefits, than US citizens. TFB was giving them FREE drivers licenses citizens have to pay for.

D-Healey illegally gave the invaders close to 1 BILLION in US Taxpayer funded: shelter, clothing, food/EBT, living expenses………while cutting benefits to the citizens of mASSachusetts.

Are flags lowered in Berkshire County for Charlie Kirk? The Berkshire Eagle has not made this a major story. There is a commentary by Thomas Friedman in the BB begging President Trump to make peace in America so we don’t begin civil war over the Charlie Kirk assassination, but conservatives don’t burn down cities, loot, and riot. Is that what the left expected would happen?

Pat – LMFAO. Go sit down.

Right-wing riots & violent unrest since 2000 (just a few examples):

  • 2000 – Miami, FL (Brooks Brothers Riot): GOP operatives stormed election recount offices, shut down vote counting.
  • 2005 – Toledo, OH: Neo-Nazis marched, violence erupted, looting & arson broke out.
  • 2016 – Sacramento, CA: White nationalist rally turned into stabbings, street fighting, and property damage.
  • 2020 – Lansing, MI: Armed right-wing protesters stormed the Michigan State Capitol over COVID restrictions.
  • 2021 – Washington, D.C.: Jan 6th insurrection — Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, causing deaths, destruction, and nationwide shock.

Cannot cut out Jan 6th. Over a billion people worldwide watched it live on tv and were horrified. You will always have the brainwashed who refuse to believe their own eyes but it will be indelible in history unless it is wiped from all history books and sadly that is in process as we speak. Free speech being gradually eliminated.

Free speech has been under attack by Democrats for many years and this has been going on for a long time so we have to face the truth of just who is responsible. Just look at colleges as a glaring example of the fight to keep college student open to all ideas not just those of their far left teachers. Nobody will forget January 6th so don’t worry about that, but neither will we forget the so-called “Summer of Love” when Democrats were looting, rioting, murdering, and burning cities.

Did You do a happy dance for the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Meanwhile?

I didn’t see any: weapons, burning, looting, carjacking, …etc on 1/6/2021.

Funny that unarmed citizens contesting the vote as granted by The US Constitution, are considered an “Insurrection” by the Left and MSM; the Left’s plot worked and the vote was never contested. Biden was installed, just like a toilet.

I did see two citizens murdered by Capitol Police 1/6/2021; Michael Byrd murdered an unarmed Ashli Babbit, another woman was beaten and suffocated. Those who came to her aid were incarcerated without due process.

The Leftists said the riots, arson, and looting, that was perpetrated during THE LEFT’S “Summer of LOVE 2020”, were just “PEACEFUL PROTESTS”. The whole world saw that months long chaos.

When I enrolled in college, it was just becoming a thing that “everyone needs a degree”. Prior generation college grads were far fewer in number.

What we have now, perhaps for reasons of grammar-high school organized intrusion into the personal lives of children and breakdown of the predominance of parents, is a lot of kids who do not share moral and civic qualifications for a liberal mind. The objective of the humanities and balanced education exceeds their potential.

There is room for culling on the campuses.

Vendetta Vale

This whole idea of equality is really hard for you to accept, huh? Who exactly made you the authority on who is “worthy” of an education? The whole “culling” argument is nothing but elitist nonsense. Education isn’t a private club for the self-appointed chosen few — it’s a right. College is where people develop civic responsibility and critical thinking, not some purity test for who already has it. Humanities don’t “exceed their potential” — they unlock it. You don’t get to decide whose future matters.

College by definition is inherently elitist – there are applications and testing requirements. Character assessments too. Not all applying are equal, and not all rank equally in the varied experiences. Some, as we said, even just suck at it. I was certainly not very highly ranked. It’s a fact of life that you may find yourself outranked.

You imply that rights exist that are not identified in the Bill of Rights. Questionable that all of a sudden we need these new ones, that the range of common human pursuit is requiring them
Yet, no where is it demonstrated that college education is required for financial success, creative success, or classical success with knowledge. It, do you believe that the art history grad student is becoming creatively freed with the study of provenance?

What evidence do you have that people develop civic responsibilty at college? I think they actually tend to weaken. Most Yale grads score poorer on basic knowledge tests than when tested in Freshmen years. The dominant school of thought is Skepticism that assumes critical thought is the key to disproving Common Sense.

How do humanities unlock potential? I hope so, but how does it work for the closed mind?

The closed American mind is not going to benefit strongly from liberal arts and it does appear to be damaging the institutions.

You should try rebutting me, but try not to be emotional or reactive.

The job market for recent college graduates is facing significant challenges, with many struggling to find full-time employment. According to the Cengage Group Graduate Employability Report, only 30% of 2025 graduates have secured full-time work in their fields, and nearly half reported feeling unprepared for the job market. The report highlights a wider gap between the skills taught in education and the job-specific skills sought by employers, leading to a tough entry-level labor market. Factors such as the rise of AI and automation, corporate cost-cutting, and a tightening labor market have contributed to this issue. Employers are increasingly valuing practical skills over just holding a degree, making it harder for graduates to find work.

College isn’t “elitist” just because Harvard rejects people. Almost 40% of all US undergrads go to community colleges where anyone can walk in. That’s not elitism, that’s access.

And spare the Bill of Rights argument. The Ninth Amendment literally says we have rights beyond those written down. That’s why you have the right to privacy, to marry who you want, and to use birth c
ontrol, none of which are in your precious Bill of Rights.
“College isn’t required for success”? No one said it was. But the facts are clear: college grads earn 65 percent more on average, are half as likely to be unemployed, and are far more likely to vote, volunteer, and show up civically. That’s not opinion, that’s decades of data.

As for Yale kids “scoring worse” later? That’s cherry-picking nonsense. They stop taking freshman trivia tests because they’re studying advanced topics. It doesn’t mean they got dumber, it means they moved past the kiddie pool.

And skepticism “destroys common sense”? Please. “Common sense” once told people the Earth was flat, bleeding patients cured them, and interracial marriage was immoral. Skepticism is literally how we weed out garbage ideas.

Finally, the humanities. They don’t make you “closed minded.” They expose you to history, literature, philosophy, the stuff that actually built democracy. Studies show reading fiction increases empathy and understanding. If you can’t handle that, maybe the problem isn’t the humanities, maybe it’s your refusal to learn.

Trump is trying to cull all foreign students. Many engineer and scientist and medical health professionals who studied in America use to stay and contribute to Americas excellence. Going forward America is going to have to hope it can find enough intelligent students among its own pool to keep America great.

Not sure that is going to work. Not sure at all. In five years Panama will have a more advanced society and infrastructure than America. America gave all its infrastructure money to the billionaires in tax breaks.

Pray for the American children because their lot in life will be hard…very hard.

Maybe Panama has a more developed educational system today, after 40years of DOE and Teacher Union mission of “The Academic Crises” which saw the conversion of liberal education into a broadcast of strictly topical content. The schools that excelled during and since Covid (which decimated school performance nationally, are restricted to Alabama and Mississippi.

Billionaires get tax breaks, maybe, probably you too, but we know crooks and incompetents get your taxes. That’s worse.

I totally disagree with all of the conservative views praising the late-Charlie Kirk, who I view as a bigot who used pseudo-religion to justify his extreme views as a propagandist for Donald Trump’s conservative MAGA beliefs.

I praised Governor Maura Healey for her op-ed in The Boston Globe for wanting to end homelessness and helping Veterans in Massachusetts.

In 2016, Barry Obama tried to overthrow the US Government, by illegally spying on an elected US President (Russian Hoax). President Trump was elected by the US Citizens, but that means nothing to you.

You just spew MSDNC talking points like, “bigotry to divide and conquer.”

He didn’t live by the sword. But he certainly had the courage to face those who did in honest and respectful debate.

His memory and :sacred honor” is the beneficiary of his courage which shares the company of our nation’s martyrs including Joseph Warren who volunteered and walked into musket fire on Bunker Hill. As head of the underground government 1775, he was pleased not to venture there – he was not a soldier- but he insisted he would go where others would under his directions. That embodies the ancient definition of Courage which is rooted in permanent memory of what you are.

You should thank Kirk. His life continues the victory of Liberty that was won in the hearts of American Patriots before the first man fell in Lexington Square April 19, 1775. The war for Liberty, Justice, and Self determination only answerable to G-d was won there, not on any battlefield, and it will only remain won so long as it is won in man’s chest today. Vigils in the hundreds in small towns throughout Vermont give testimony that he has revived the victory.

The Democrats are the party of hate and violence. They cheer the execution of a health care CEO. They cheer the shooting of our President and now they cheer the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Why would anyone be a Democrat?

Oh please. The “mainstream media” isn’t the one who made Trump’s entire brand bullying, name calling, and inciting violence. That’s straight from his own mouth and MAGA’s actions.

Democrats the party of hate and violence? Spare me. It wasn’t Democrats storming the Capitol with zip ties chanting about hanging Mike Pence.

It wasn’t Democrats sending pipe bombs to journalists and politicians. It wasn’t Democrats ramming cars into crowds in Charlottesville. It wasn’t Democrats plotting kidnappings of governors.
And nobody “cheered” assassinations, but MAGA sure laughed when Paul Pelosi was attacked with a hammer. You mocked George Floyd. You celebrated when kids in cages were “taught a lesson.” You still call women, LGBTQ people, Jews, Muslims, and immigrants slurs for sport.

So why would anyone be a Democrat? Maybe because we don’t want to be part of a cult that worships a twice impeached, 91 count indicted con man who thinks loyalty oaths matter more than the Constitution.

The theme of the have nots is they don’t care about their lives and have nothing to lose. Thus the violence. On the other hand violence of a different kind is happening all over the world. Is it not genocide in the Middle East? If not, what. The way the country is going everyone will be subjected to violence. You can’t have it both ways when it comes to adding and subtracting to one’s wealth or poverty especially.

Lefties supporting recent assasinations in millions. Everything has to stop. Good Luck. The shot wasn’t to Charlie is was to Trump. Cowardly yes.

But that’s the way radicals operate. It’s all about the power.

Won’t be long before an uproar here erupts. Pittsfield is not immune.

Dan
Clinton and Newt ,accomplished “the contract with America ‘

Then we got the war criminals Bush2 and Cheney, who falsified”Weapons of mass destruction “to justify Iraq war.Obviosly to feed the Industrial war complex, and fatten their wallets
America was still united!

Then we elected the divider and chief Obama, who weaponized the government, for political reasons.

The fact is,the demonrat party,is solely responsible for the present conflict, precisely the same as civil war, with the same predictable result. The assassination of the truth teller.

The elitist credentialed bigots, through their hubris, are projecting/ gaslighting the youth, simple minded and morally depraved into blind faith.

Some are now so delusional, they believe Biden was fit to be president.

Those who can’t remember the past, are doomed to repeat it.”

Schools should go back,to education, and be forbidden from Indoctrination.

Fortunately our youth, recognize they were gaslit by government via civil. And are now wiser than parents.

Nobody but delusional liberals, believe Trump wants to be King,it’s just more projection and gaslighting,of useful idiots.

City of Pittsfield field has a ton of job openings for all kinds of positions. Why would these jobs be unfilled in the first place? City jobs with great health insurance and benefits used to be highly desired. You had to know someone to get them. What changed?

Why are they advertising for a City Solicitor? Thought they just hired Devon Grierson. Is he leaving or was he let go? He has pointed out several “mishaps” that the City has been incorrectly doing for years. Was he not going along with good ole boys?

There is a major issue with corruption inside the city, and it starts at the top. What has changed is the administration. Pete and RePete have cemented the status quo. Mayor Marchetti is rapidly losing support within city government because of corruption, retribution, drama, and a culture where, if you do not fall in line, you are ousted, humiliated, fired, bullied, pushed out, or forced into retirement.

This city has earned a terrible reputation as an employer. Other municipalities hesitate to hire anyone from Pittsfield because they know our employees often come from a government that lacks respect, professionalism, and proper training. Inside City Hall, there is no system for training, no crossover of duties, and no proper handoff when someone leaves. A new hire, even in a supervisory role, is left to sink or swim with no guidance. This is not leadership; it is negligence.

HR Director Michael Taylor is another glaring example. He has a long history of inappropriate behavior, including humiliating people by secretly photographing them. While employed at Stop and Shop, he created a “People of Stop and Shop” platform where he posted photos of people he decided didn’t belong, recruiting others to help ridicule them. This pattern has followed him into City Hall, where he has been caught taking photos at inappropriate times and sharing them in private groups to mock coworkers and visitors. There are even screenshots confirming this behavior. Mayor Marchetti has not only been aware of these incidents but has witnessed them, and in some cases, even participated.

On top of that, nepotism runs rampant. A review of city employees shows just how many family members are working within, sliding into jobs not through merit, but because of who they know. In Pittsfield, it is not about qualifications, it is about connections. This cycle of favoritism keeps the same power structures in place and shuts out real change.

And now the Mayor has made his political bias impossible to deny. Drive past his house and you will see campaign signs for Persip, Amuso, and White proudly on display. But where are the signs for Kalinowsky, Klein, Costa, or Hathaway? Mr. Mayor, thank you for being so bold as to show the city exactly who your puppets are.

If residents truly want answers, stop relying on rumor and start requesting public records. The truth is all there, in black and white. The problem is not a lack of evidence; it is a lack of will to confront it. Too many people prefer gossip to facts. And until people demand better, Pittsfield will remain exactly what it has become: a city government built on corruption, favoritism, and abuse of power.

September 16, 2025

Hello blogger Dan Valenti,

I had breakfast this morning with my Veteran friend who, like myself, used to live in Pittsfield (Massachusetts) many years ago, but we both live in southern New Hampshire now.

He asked me what happened to Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti’s proposed encampment ban that would fine homeless people for sleeping on public property.

I told him that, once again, and as always, the Mayor’s encampment ban was not voted on, but rather, the Pittsfield City Council voted to send the proposed ordinance to the city’s Board of Health (BoH).

I said that the upcoming election on November 04th, 2025, played a part in the City Councilors not voting on the proposed encampment ban. He said that the elected officials did not want to risk losing any votes.

What does this tell us? Answer: The politicians put themselves first. They do NOT care about the homeless, the panhandlers, the fixed income Senior Citizens they tax and fee the Hell out of, and the no- to low- to moderate-income residents. It is always all about themselves, their public pay plus perks, and their status.

I wish to ask: How in the Hell did sleeping become a crime?

I wish to ask: How, in good conscience, does a city fine a homeless person – with little to no money – for sleeping on public property?

The answers: Put a roof over the heads of the homeless people. Use targeted assistance to help the Underclass get out of their misery. Ask the 2-Pete’s to please resign their elected offices. Elect new politicians to City Hall and up. Enough is enough with all of the bullshit in politics and government already.

Pittsfield politics has hit ROCK BOTTOM with the 2-Pete’s pounding people’s purses and persecuting people!

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle

Mayor Marchetti loves to sell himself as the “numbers guy.” He talks about his 30-plus years in banking, how he worked his way up from teller, and how his background in finance is supposed to be one of his greatest strengths.

But here’s the problem: if he really is the numbers guy he claims to be, then why hasn’t he ordered a full forensic audit of Pittsfield’s finances? That should be the first step for someone who wants accountability and transparency. Instead, he’s avoided it completely.

Krol was right — we needed outside intervention, fresh eyes on the books, and professional accountability to show the city where it’s failing and how to improve. A true banker and finance professional would have welcomed that. Marchetti shut it down.

If you brand yourself as the numbers guy, then you should be the first to put the numbers on the table. The fact that he hasn’t tells the whole story.
