We all know the staggering costs to taxpayers in money, time, resources, and other bothers. It forces politicians and activists to produce “programs” to “help” druggies do what they don’t want to do for themselves. An example of such futile activity was announced yesterday in Boston.
For years, the city has been host to an open-air drug market at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard. “Community leaders” in the Hub just announced a new plan to deal with this begrimed infestation. Let the ground shake and the walls come down.
“The whole goal is to get people into long-term recovery and make sure they’re not falling through the cracks,” said Sue Sullivan, executive director of the Newmarket Business Improvement District, as reported by Gayla Cawley in the Boston Herald. “From my perspective, I would say that it’s inhumane if we allow people to stay on the streets and not help them.”
Bog save us from the Do Gooders.

Shoot ‘em. That is the humane response.
We round up drug addicts, dealers, and anyone else in the trade, truck them to 20 Acres, and give them “two in the hat.” Each removal then results in addition by subtraction. And what of those left behind? Truth be told, most of them will be relieved to get rid of the burden.

THE PLANET recently consulted in a bizarre private case involving AI. We assisted a client on the communications end. The details must remain confidential, but we can say it involved using AI to produce fake photos. As the technology gets more and more sophisticated, it’s becoming more difficult to spot fakes. In the case, we learned an interesting aspect of this burgeoning field of hoax. The expert techie called it “evaginated application”–the use of the technology to take authentic photos and apply AI to make them look fake! It brings to mind a line from Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine:” People say believe half of what you see, son, and none of what you hear. Now it’s “believe none of what you see.”

Allow THE PLANET to translate: It means “taxpayer subsidized housing.” The program uses the fancily named “Commercial Conversion Tax Credits” (i.e., giveaways to connected builders). And from where do these credits magically derive? From the $5.2 BILLION (not a typo) “Affordable Housing Act” that Beacon Hill passed in 2024, a bond bill the governor signed. Bond means borrowing. Debt with interest that Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski must pay. Can you spell “more tax hikes in the works?”
Just what center-city North Street needs, more “low-income” people who can’t pay their own freight. The bedraggled merchants, those heroic few who are left, must be in the midst of Job-like hosannas, praying for relief. We hear their petitions, but with Dumpster Earl and the Two Petes in charge, it’s only gonna get worse.
Bitchfield’s idiot mayor said at the press conference, “[W]e continue to provide options that serve every need.”
“Every need.”

At least Boston is throwing a bone to Pittsfield. They under-fund state aid by millions of dollars per fiscal year. I wonder what the net loss is to Pittsfield by Boston.

Pittsfield has one of the highest commercial tax rates in Massachusetts only behind Holyoke. The Kapanski’s pay excessively high residential property taxes and fees, too.

Do not support it, but Allegrone is playing by our State and Federal government’s rules. Housing for the homeless is the easy part. The hard work is to get them Drug and Alcohol free, and eventually employed and moving out of the government housing. Graduating from Government assistance. Unfortunately, the Liberals like to enable and encourage bad behavior under the guise of compassion and equity. For some it is assisted suicide, sponsored by our government.
Doubtful you can help an addict become drug free in Pittsfield where the dealers are everywhere. It would be as hard and unlikely as for an alcoholic trying to quit while maintaining a well stocked cabinet of liquor and people plying him.
Agree, the odds are slim, but I know people who have over come addictions. For them it took numerous attempts and a lot of work. Enabling and not enforcing laws is not the answer. Time for a new approach.

Reading the trade literature, sounds like the Court ruled that it was illegal under IEEPA, and the admin needs to find another tool to levy the tariffs. There is to zero change to tariff collection by US Customs Duty until further determination.

In 2002, I remember working with a whole bunch of them from Lawrence and other bastions of Eastern MA, during that summer at the Mass Pike Lee Plaza. And who would oversee such things in detail in Pittsfield?
And wherever will they all park their cars? Usually, you cannot get a permit to build something like this without adequate parking but somehow someone got around that. Or are renters going to be happy walking from across the street down the hill every time they go out for a loaf of rye bread?
And after the other ongoing two-year traffic blocking dumpster and cement wall on the mid North St. apartment restoration, can one just imagine what it will be like at the corner of North and East where traffic merges with crosswalks and heavy pedestrian travel?
And what about asbestos? Any asbestos up in them there old buildings? Who actually owns these buildings? How long have they owned them and who did they buy them from? Isn’t it a “historic” building and maybe the city should also chip in some CPA (taxpayer) money? Didn’t Stanley get such a designation for a building much like it right across the street and turn it into a cash cow after getting it completely rebuilt with all the bells and whistles and hardly cost him a dime out of his own pocket? There is a large PROTEST today (Saturday, February 21st, 2026) from 12:00 pm (noon) – 2:00 pm against the planned ICE detention facility in Merrimack, NH, which borders the town that I reside in. It would-be the only ICE detention facility in all of the 6 New England states.

New Hampshire, like Massachusetts, has lost billions of dollars in state administered, federal aid funding for Medicaid, SNAP, homeless programs, public education, and so on, but the Trump administration plans to turn a warehouse into a private prison to incarcerate immigrants for processing in Merrimack, NH.
I do NOT want an ICE detention facility in Merrimack, NH. Instead, I want the BIG cuts in federal funding for the aforementioned social programs reversed in New Hampshire and Massachusetts alike.
Similar to our native hometown of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, having two GE capped/leaky toxic waste dumps full of PCBs with a third one planned for Lee, Massachusetts, it is always a Have-NOT place such as Merrimack, NH, that may get the ICE detention center. It is never in a well-off community full of wealthy residents.
Trump’s largest federal tax cuts in U.S. history greatly benefits the billionaires. Meanwhile, state governments are receiving billions of dollars LESS in federal funding that is distributed by the states. The billionaires, the “GE’s”, and the wealthy communities do NOT have to feel the pain that the rest of us live with.
I live in the single wealthiest community in New Hampshire, and I recently found out that if one becomes a homeless resident in Amherst, NH, that there are no homeless shelters in my town, along with the other nearby towns. One has to go to the City of Nashua, NH, to find a homeless shelter.
I am a disabled Veteran, so I would go to the VA Hospital if I became “a homeless Veteran” to find shelter, but most people where I reside are not in my situation. There is no safety net where I live because I reside in a wealthy community. I wonder if that is on purpose to keep the underclass out of my well-off town, which is similar to the well-off town that you reside in, which is Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
I believe that we should NOT have an Underclass population, but poverty keeps increasing in numbers over the past 5 decades. I believe that it costs more taxpayer-dollars to have an underclass population than if we had a functional social safety net in place that provided targeted assistance to the underclass population.
The “BIG 3” for the middle-class are HOUSING, Healthcare, and public education. It is NOT new, so why are we cutting state administered, federal aid to support putting a roof over people’s heads, for Medicaid and SNAP, and for public education?
I hope that all of the career politicians will be voted out of elected office. I want new elected officials to fully fund state administered, federal aid so that we are able to live in functioning communities. I want a strong middle-class again like we had during the post-WW2 era until the early-1970’s.

Criminals generally do not obey laws. Maybe they should enforce laws already on the books, arrest the criminals and jail them instead? Blue states not only do catch and release on Alien Criminals, but domestic ones also. How have the “no bail” laws in NYS worked out?

Kelly Ayotte is silent on Donald Trump and her other wealthy and powerful elected official friends being named in the Epstein Files. She was once NH’s Attorney General, but now she has nothing to say about the men who are mentioned in the sex trafficking story.
Kelly Ayotte did not support the vote in the U.S. Senate on Obama’s nomination of then Judge Merrick Garland’s to the U.S. Supreme Court. The U.S. Constitution gives the U.S. President the power to nominate U.S. Supreme Court Justices.
Kelly Ayotte was the only vote in the U.S. Senate in the northeast to vote against gun reform legislation after the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in late-2012. Over 13 years later in early-2026, the Swamp still has not passed said legislation to stop mass shootings.
New Hampshire property taxes are the highest in the 50 states. Governor Kelly Ayotte’s budgets and policies as the Governor are putting great fiscal constraints on the already over-taxed local governments.

Kelly Ayotte targeted Governor Maura Healey with negative campaigning to associate her with Joyce Craig. I agree with Kelly Ayotte’s critics that she represents the CRINGE-side of politics.
If one wants to write that I am unhinged, then my reply is that we are living in an age of unhinged politics in the mid-2020’s. I know that Kelly Ayotte does NOT care what I write, but FREE SPEECH is the foundation of our democracy.
