From my own memory, I believe that the Opioid fund will be paid out over many years. Shouldn’t the Mayor have a plan to use the money for evidenced-based programs that will help the people in need?

Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti and others like him are being reported on in the news media for the non-spending of OPIOID Funds on the local government level while people are sick and they are still dying across Massachusetts.

Cities and Towns are supposed to have concrete plans and deadlines to spend the OPIOID Funds, but municipal government leaders such as Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti are still sitting on most of the OPIOID Funds. Pittsfield received $1.6 million in OPIOID Funds, but the city has only spent a small portion of the OPIOID Funds.
“Enough’s enough. This government bureaucracy BS. There’s no place for that here. None. Fix it. Get this money out the door. Spend it on what it’s supposed to be spent for which is to help people save lives and get their lives back. Period. End of Story,” Massachusetts State Sen. John Velis said, noting that the money should be used for treatment, prevention and harm reduction.
He also said that the state should claw back the OPIOID Funds from the cities and towns that are not spending the money to help people in need.
More than one billion dollars in opioid settlement funds are coming to Massachusetts through 2038.
Cities and towns have an additional $46 million to spend just from fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
New York City Mayor Mamdani refused to attend the annual Israel Day parade. Every NYC mayor since 1964 has marched in the parade to celebrate the Jewish people. Mamdani says he only has a problem with Israel leadership not the Jewish people so his not attending the parade makes no sense. Dan, some gas stations in the Pitts are under 4 dollars. Bumbles war on Oil, brought gas prices up above 5 dollars. Gas hasn’t been this high in 3 years. Wondering who was in office.
Here comes another great addition to Lumpy’s glorious North Street. A pot dispensary called “Cloud Nine” wants to move into the soon to be vacant after 40 plus years Health Food Store across from St. Joseph’s Church. Unbelievable! That portion of North Street is totally “infested” with drug addicts. This “pot shop” will be right below a dance school for little children, and across from the church. As a membeer of the YMCA, I am petrified parking my car in the lot behind the Senior Center, and this is mid day. I am forever being rudely asked for money, drug addicts and mentally ill folks are jumping out of bushes to confront you. Also, I utilized a dog groomer in that area that thankfully just relocated his businesss. The scenes I have witnessed during my short visit to drop my dog off are beyond gross, men relieving themselves and performing other hand down the pants maneuvers, all why parents are picking their little kids up and actually running with them to the dance studio. This is in broad daylight. The flower shop closed because of illegal issues on this block. Another hair business moved her business. Many of these businesses posted videos of the harassment they received from these deadbeats. Of course Lumpy doesn’t look at social media, guess the whole City Council doesn’t view these gross, vial videos either. Does Lumpy or the City Council members ever take the time to read the PPD Log, if they did they would see how many times in a day the police department is in that area. Come on elected officials, open your damn eyes and start paying attention. What about parking? We have enough pot shops in the City. They don’t belong on our main street, it’s bad enough already. Just when you think the City can’t get any worse it does.

If Pakistan, Israel, and India have them for defensive purposes, why wouldn’t the mullahs want the same protection. I wanted to share a post I found on X about the Board of Education and them killing-off teaching cursive writing in Common Core, beginning in 2010. Not only can kids not write in cursive, but they also can’t read cursive language.
Think about that for a second and think about what official US Government document is written entirely in cursive.

Gov. Maura Healey finally signed a law that dictates that people under the age of 18 would be unable to legally consent to sexual conduct with an adult who holds, or has held, supervisory or custodial authority over them. Democrat policies in the schools have given the passing of this law a huge urgency. Having the teachers and administrators completely involved in the gender and sexuality issues of the students has created situations where boundaries between teacher and student can easily be crossed. At Miss Hall’s School two female students have been fighting against the system that gave them no rights against a teacher who has been accused of grooming them since the age of 15. Massachusetts law did not protect them.

Boston state lawmakers are over-spending the state government into financial oblivion. Meanwhile, state aid to local government in Massachusetts is at levels from close to 20 years ago, which leaves distressed areas and municipalities under-funded by substantial amounts of money.
The Boston state lawmakers are even WORSE than the Earl and the 2-Pete’s Pittsfield politics pounding, pummeling, pulverizing, punishing of people’s purses by ALWAYS spending tens of millions of dollars per fiscal year MORE than Pittsfield’s peer small cities such as Westfield and Fitchburg.
If one is a Senior Citizen or other fixed-income homeowner in Pittsfield (Massachusetts), then one is paying substantially higher municipal taxes and fees than many other areas. They are afraid of and at-risk of losing their single largest investment: One’s HOME.
The career politicians in Massachusetts are doing DISSERVICES to many homeowners by screwing over the common people.
My view is that one has to be wealthy and politically-connected to get ahead financially in Massachusetts.

The school district has placed Slaughter on administrative leave as it conducts its own investigation, Latifah Phillips, chief of staff for Santa Fe Public Schools, said Monday.
“We take these allegations seriously, and student safety remains our top priority,” Phillips said.
Slaughter, 58, recently was nominated as one of the school district’s “Teachers Who Inspire.” Each year, the district and Partners in Education honor seven teachers who are chosen by their peers for their ability to inspire students and other teachers.
Teachers do not know they are getting the award until they are surprised at a public ceremony. Slaughter was to be honored this week.
Phillips said it is unclear whether Slaughter will still receive the award. Slaughter could not be reached for comment.
