WANT TO SOLVE ALL PITSFIELD’S PROBLEMS? TWO WORDS: ‘NORTH KOREA’
BY DAN VALENTI
PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY
(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY JULY 10, 2018) — Still no word from anyone in official Pittsfield about the weekend’s shootings and murder. The Boring Broadsheet did, however, break in with a page one above-the-fold banner story about a … about a … stolen kitten. Glad to see the fearless rag fulfilling its mission as crusading, Fourth Estate guardian over the three branches, which in Pittsfield have grown to rot.
There is nothing to fear but fear itself, as we recall from our U.S. History, and that’s the good news, because there’s plenty of reason for the “F” word. All of Pittsfield’s problems could well be solved in an instant by what’s happening on the Korean peninsula. Although THE PLANET doubts there will be a military outcome — there are no “solutions” — to the current crisis issuing from both sides of the 38th parallel, it unfortunately remains on the scope.
The problems there go back to the end of World War II, when the United States and Soviet Russia decided for the rest of the world that an endless Cold War would be preferable to a lasting world peace. The two countries greedily divided the map into spheres of influence, with Korea being split in two. The Soviets got the north, and the United States took the south.
Each set up puppet regimes. These 70 years later, we can see how that turned out. The North began with most of the peninsula’s resources. The South began with next-to-nothing. This set up one of the great field experiments in economic history. The USSR imposed communism and central planning on Pyong Yang, while in the South, the U.S. planted capitalism. Today, nighttime satellite images illustrate the stark contrast in the two countries: While the North shows up as pitch black, the South blazes with the lights of development, progress, and success. As it turns out, communism (little “c”) is far too idealistic for human nature. It may have worked for the early Christians, but for the most part, greed overwhelms the human heart, sinking this noblesse oblige, otherwise known as the Dictatorship of the Proletariat (capital “C”). Capitalism has as its key feature the incorporation of greed.
Kim Jung Un‘s possession of nuclear weapons, however, obliterates history and makes the past irrelevant. It’s what happens from here on out that matters. Analysts estimate that Kim controls between 10 and 16 nuclear bombs. They also know, as does the world, that the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea (PDRK) possesses ICBMs. It came as no coincidence that the country saved its test (successful) of an ICBM — the Hwasong 14, as designated — to coincide with America’s Independence Day.
A study of the launch’s data as well as footage taken during a recent parade in Pyong Yang confirmed the missile in question has intercontinental capabilities. Analysts pointed to the missile’s hollow cone section, a tell-tale design for ICBMs and, more ominously, MIRVs — multiple, independent, re-entry vehicles.
What can be done? What are President Donald Trump‘s options? Boil it down, and there are only three:
- Keep the present course, largely consisting of economic sanctions.
- Military intervention.
- Diplomacy.
Option 1, while being the most feasible, insures that the situation remains at the boiling point — unless China fully implements economic sanctions. China remains reluctant because it fears regime collapse in DPRK will send millions of refugees across the border. It also wants the North to serve as the border’s strategic buffer.
Option Two assures that a.) the United States would prevail and Kim’s regime would end and b.) millions of lives would be endangered, likely lost, in the region. Presently, that is unacceptable. Kim would unleash his arsenal on the South as well as Japan, Taiwan, and large areas of the Pacific Rim. Even if Kim used only conventional forces, his 1.2 million-man army would see that millions died.
Option Three is the best of these three regrettable alternatives. The President has offered to meet in person with Kim. He is the first president to do that. Such a meeting could be set up through back channels or even front, using envoys from Sweden, Russia, and China as brokers. Trump is master of the deal. He has the skills to meet with Kim and end the crisis once and for all — before it’s too late.

I wonder how many man hours were spent by the PPD solving the crime of the Century, the famous stolen kitten. Meanwhile, murders and shooting go unsolved.
After the Donald’s return from the G20 conference, and his extended one-on-one with Mr. Putin, when he came away with the brilliant idea to collaborate with the Russians on building an impenetrable wall,of cyber security, I believe his self-proclaimed, and Valenti-propagated “master of the deal” monikker took a substantial hit. I don’t think I’d want him negotiating pricing on a grilled cheese samwich off the lunch menu at Friendly’s.
The Hildebeast would have just given Putin all our our access codes, in exchange for a Donation, to the crooked Clintoon foundation.
Agree. After she also poured all of the refugees into the country like her heroine Angela Merkel. People need to read the book, “the Strange Death of Europe” by Douglas Murray to understand what is happening over in Europe.
Dan, I thought we might see some thoughts on “Lieawatha’s” visit to BCC last week.
So many people in this area do not support Lizzie Warren and her extremely far left agenda even as Lizzie and her supporters are gearing up for her 2018 re-election. Lizzie needs independent voters in order to win and her extreme agenda is pushing them away. The 800 people who showed up for her on Saturday were her core supporters and local politicians.
Lame nicknames are such a hallmark of the political right.
Lying and deceit , for personal and political gain, are traits of Left Winged Parrots
Poor comeback. Both sides do that.
But the Left has lied for so long, and so much, they don’t know/can’t tell what the truth is.
Look at CNN. The poor stooges working there have been paid to spread lies for so long they thought, they were doing a “good job”. When CNN management were caught with their pants down, all of a sudden the poor stooges were scolded.
CNN Producer: “Our ratings are incredible right now,” President Trump “good for business”
John Bonifield Says Russia Narrative “Mostly bullshit right now”
“Get back to Russia,” Says CEO Jeff Zucker
President Trump is Right About Witch Hunt, “No real proof”
Comes in Wake of CNN’s Russia-Gate Retraction & New Rules on Russia Coverage
Both sides name call too, buffoon.
I’m just misunderstood.
And the use of “parrot” is also lame since right wing nuts do that too.

what does that prove? Give me examples of left media calling right politicians dumb nicknames. Or goofy name calling like snowflake. The right loves it. Just a peculiar thing with them.
puking’s a killer pure and simple, trump lost points. trump alienates our neighbor countries to make America great and wants to sleep with the enemy! puking.
another lame nickname. What is up with you people?
Talk about cover-ups. The July 4th 2015 murder is still under wraps. One man killed, his brother in a hospital in Springfield, yet we have never been told who did it (and of course they know).
They can’t use the excuse that those who did this are under 18 (like the kitten crime).
Why the secrecy?
The Big news story was that the Kitty is ok.
I agree Dan. All we hear about is Russia only since Trump has been in office while North Korea is perfecting their ability to aim nuclear weapons at our country. From what I have read we have no reliable system to stop these types of missiles once they are launched towards us.
Jung and Co. Would be stopped. Problem is,it would cost many American Live to do it. Trump isn’t getting any help on this one, and he needs to stop the N K Tryant before it’s to late.
Over a million in excess snow maitenance? Show me the money?
Somebody said the parking kiosks were a joke on the iberkshires site under the article and all of a sudden their comment disappeared. The article was about how Dan V. has been right and the kiosks are not generating enough money to justify their high cost. Of course Dan V. wasn’t mentioned in the article. The comment was not so bad that it needed to be removed.
Is this how any type of criticism of the powers that be is treated in this area?
Did the “shot-spotter” technology aid in apprehending the criminal or is that not installed yet ? Or maybe it’s installed but we can’t figure out how it works ?
It is installed, but with a million illegal fireworks going off on the 4th of July it was of no use in quickly apprehending the criminals who murdered the man on that day. As neighbors have said it was extremely difficult to tell the gunfire from the fireworks which the criminals were counting on.
I thought the hype was that it could distinguish between gunfire and fireworks.
Good question. Did the “shot spotter” do its job in this case? Or did the actual info come from elsewhere? Any answers from our CC members or the mayor or the Police Chief?
I’m betting that no body in our administration will answer this.
Another incident at Dorothy Amos, one of the moms that goes there said a bunch of cops were there over the weekend.
big accident on E Hous and Pomeroy.. Traffic blocked off.
Who has a bigger ego…The Donald or Kim Jung Un ?
That might be the answer to what question we ask.
She wants banks regulated and consumers protected, now that is far far far left wing?…your stupid
That is just the tip of the iceberg of Elizabeth Warren’s agenda. Her main goal is to promote the progressive philosophy and obstruct the Republican agenda. She wants too much government control in every aspect of our lives beginning with healthcare which is proving to be very burdensome for many people especially the working middle class. Healthcare is very personal and complicated and putting the federal government in charge of it is a mistake.
Pat, one of the major issues with Obamacare is it’s really healthcare (aka health insurance) for low income or people who don’t feel like working and leaves the middleclass out in the cold and makes them pay for it. It’s not even remotely close to single payor, it’s ‘our voting base only’ payor.
She is a great great great advocate right now for you Pat .
Those are 2 good things that the Dems are for. The issue is all the other stuff like open borders, illegals aren’t illegal, proliferation of welfare, bad trade deals, the Iran nuclear deal, and the disaster called Obamacare that caused me to shun the Democratic party.
Democrats weren’t always like this. They changed for the worse.
Do you mean you’re stupid smart guy?
Yes,like Trump stupid.
Is that like Bernie and his wife? Who proclaimed the same. But…..
The DOJ has them under investigation for crooked dealings that bankrupted a College in Vt
There was a major accident yesterday, but saw no mention of it in the Berkshire Eagle today. Whatever happened to breaking news at the BB on their online site? I no longer see that kind of reporting anymore.
