Yes. Tyer will be running for a council seat in Ward 3.
Bill Tyer, by the way, not Linda (no relation). Tyer will face some chap named Matt Wrinn.
Tyer told THE PLANET that no matter who becomes mayor, “I will be there to keep the feet to the fire. Anyone who votes for me will get a guy that fights for the residents.” He says those who vote for [Wrinn] “will get a blind rubber stamp. … I want to bring honesty and open information” to citizens. “I guess, Dan, I am running to clear the TYER name. For several years we have lived under a ‘Linda’ administration, for good and bad. I am the original Tyer, the one who is direct from William Tyer Jr. … who was known for fairness, openness, and who worked with everyone for the common good. That’s the Tyer who is on the ballot in ward 3.”
How is Tyer different than Wrenn? “Old vs. young, fiscal conservative vs liberal spending,” Tyer says. “[There’s] so much [budget] waste [it] makes me sick. We suffer with pot holes, lack of managerial support for the DPW, and we increase the budget. Not on my watch. I will not vote to increase a single budget without line item accountability.”
In a rational, sane electoral environment, that’s a winning position.

The proposed operating budget for fiscal year 2024 is almost $17,000,000, 8.9 percent higher than last year ($187,438,911).
When Linda Tyer took over Dan Bianchi, spending was $140 million. Tuesday night, council buzzards swooped over the corpses of the Kapanski’s to pick the pockets clean. Before them, the mayor’s “request” for $205,634,497.
Allow THE PLANET to ask one simple question: Do you, the taxpayer, feel you’re getting $66 million worth of better services or quality of life?
And here’s what that rag iBerkshires reported about the school department: “Last week, the School Committee approved a $78,088,016 FY24 budget that was reduced by $220,000 after a conversation with the mayor. With school choice and Richmond tuition funds, the total is $78,558,016.” Yes, they actually used the word “reduced.” It’s an Exhibit A example of lazy, lapdog reporting.

| A pandemic-era border policy known as Title 42 is set to expire at midnight tonight, ending one of the federal government’s primary tools in addressing a surge of migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border over the past two years. Its ending was triggered by the expiration of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
Most migrants arrive at the border and claim asylum. Adjudicating the process may take years, during which migrants are typically allowed to remain in the US (see overview). This spells disaster. These undocumented illegals will swamp services and rob citizens in so many ways. It will also spell doom for Syracuse Joe in 2024. This, as President Donald Trump continues his resurgence. Call it a silver lining.

While it’s not in my nature to say anything positive, I’ll like to say that I witness a single city employee hydrant flusher today. There was one truck and with one employee. There wasn’t a truck driver and six supervisors to supervise the single hydrant flusher. There was just a single truck driver who also was doing the hydrant flushing. But then, later today, I again witnessed city vehicles at the scene of the downtown water main break. There were several people on the scene, including at least one cop, but I’m sure there were more, at the scene. One male? worker was manipulating some type of apparatus into a hole while several spectators supervised. And the cop never took his eyes off his cell phone at the very busy intersection. This intersection was the scene of a collision involving a Pittsfield Police Cruiser in 2016. Not to be confused with the 2014 Pittsfield Police Officer involved collision at North and Depot Street where, to my recollection, a Pittsfield police officer ran a red light. And certainly not to be confused with the police cruiser collisions at Orchard and Second Street where a police cruiser allegedly hit several parked cars before impacting the wrought iron fence at the old jail.

I hope every middle income homeowner in Pittsfield, especially those with children, tapes that information to their refrigerator and does some serious math going forward. Because this is a financial leg iron that is going to make your ability to get ahead especially difficult. It is going to hamstring your ability to purchase a decent automobile, refrigerator or needed home repairs. We are talking about thousands of dollars less you will be able to save for a child’s college education.
Please, for yourself and your families, do the math. Project ahead five or ten years and see if you will be stuck with piling bills you cannot pay. Will you need to live on high interest loans trying to keep up? Will you be telling your children no? That you cannot afford that bike or phone? Will you be telling them that vacations outside of the county will no longer be happening?
And consider the spiraling trajectory of the tax and fee costs to live in Pittsfield, Ma. It is not going to stop where it is. An eight million dollar increase this year may become a ten million dollar increase next year. And a twelve million dollar increase the year after. That is the trajectory. And none of the people in charge of running this city are going to allow a forensic audit to see where there may be areas of waste spending that may be cut.
If you are not actively looking for home options outside of Pittsfield you may be doing a huge disservice to yourself and family because there is not the slightest of signs that money management will get any better in Pittsfield, Ma.

The Mayor makes the budget not the President of the City Council. Each member of the Council has one single vote to approve budget. It takes a majority for the budget to pass!
Could the president of the city council object if he wanted to since that is what his job is? To counter bad things the mayor might do? Do you even know what his job is? I do not think so. Read it and come back to us with your comment revised please.
Every Councilor has only one vote! But yes a Council can vote down a budget, but that would create a mess throughout the city. Causing services to be cut. The President’s job is to run Council meetings. After that he or she only has 1 vote like all other sitting members of the Council.
The council can return the budget to the mayor, insisting on (and recommendation, if it chooses) CUTS. The mayor then has to decide to serve the city or play politics. A mess would be when council and mayor play politics. Otherwise, a large cut could be made and actually IMPROVE services.

It’s in the column. When Bianchi left, the budget was approx. $140 million. The $205+ million budget would mean $66 million increase in eight years. For perspective, the FY 1995 budget, the entire budget, was $63 million.

Dan if i may, Elisabeth, i just want to keep the record straight. I lost the School Committee race. I didn’t get the number of votes needed to gain a seat on that Committee. I lost them, i as a candidate did not get my voters out to the polls and have them pull, or color in my name. I own that, but your post was not accurate. I never lost to a person that dropped out. If you check the figures, i was some 600 plus votes behind a current sitting member. I came in 7th, 6 were voted in. I came in 7th in a field of 10 that were on the ballot. If you were to pull the listings, those that dropped out, why i don’t know, came in collectively behind my vote total. To give you some hope, truth, collectively they out numbered me. So it begs the question, if they weren’t there, if there names were absent from the ballot, would i have won. We may never know why, a person would take out papers, get signatures, wait till the last minute to give consent to a ballot, and back out. Yeah this is well known in Springfield. There was a state takeover of a hotel (and probably others in the vicinity) across the street from the Big Y in Chicopee, near the Walmart for the sole purpose of housing migrants. Shoplifting in the nearby stores is rampant. Carts from the grocery stores & Walmart are used by the migrants to transport their goods to the hotels, and then the carts are dumped all along the front of the hotels. The area is trashed as are the hotels. Glad to hear that MCLA came to their senses and refused the state takeover.

There is not much I can do about it except to keep on complaining. If I become mayor I am going to put together a bi monthly TV show for all the residents of the city of Pittsfield. The show will be the people’s show and all called in questions will be answered then and there and questions I can not answer will be researched and answered on the second show of the month. I can do this easily as a mayor but not so easily as a ward 6 councilor. Mr. Fritz I have been trying to answer this question in my mind a million times. I have some specific ideas which fit both scenarios. I truly haven’t come to any conclusion yet. How do I represent all the people of the city if I am a ward 6 councilor? How can I win against all the gobsigs which are behind these two gobsig backed light weights. I have to give this some more thought. I hope you can appreciate the delema I face as I try to represent all the people of Pittsfield and not just one ward. Thanks for the post I do appreciate Dan’s advise but the decision has to be mine. Keep posting fritz and every body else. Maybe you all can convince me one way or the other.

Yes, there will be all sorts of advice, but in the end, it’s a decision only you can make. The decision must come after a fiercely honest answer to the question: WHY? Why am I running? What is my main goal. From my outside perspective, I see it in this way: You won’t be able to accomplish a thing if you don’t win office. Winning the corner office will take a much deeper investment, both financial and personal, to have even a remote chance. Winning in 6, however, will take less of both. It is presently occupied by a person who has been a do-nothing in the seat, someone who’s vulnerable. As a ward councilor, you can still weigh in — and vote — on citywide matters.
If you look at what Charles has been trying to do almost all by himself you can see what Craig would be up against as a councilor. A lone voice crying out in the darkness because the deck is heavily stacked.
You would need six councilors who actually cared about the city and the people who live in it to overcome the special interest people steamrolling the city. Pittsfield needs a minimum of 6 wholesale change oriented people, not just to run, but to be elected to overcome the dark forces.
So, I personally, see Craig running for a councilor position as a complete waste of time, money and effort. Nothing he could say or do would change one thing the cabal wanted to do because the total council vote would make all his efforts meaningless. If he somehow could be elected mayor that would be a sea change for the city.
Get your ward signatures and keep the two campaigns separate.
Go to other wards 13457 and get mayor signatures and see how you feel. Gauge the interest and the scale of the campaign.
Aim high, Craig, whether it’s Council or Mayor.
