PLANET VALENTI News and Commentary

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THURSDAY, SEPT. 20, 2012) — Scott Brown vs. Elizabeth Warren: the race is one of the most closely watched in the nation outside of the battle for the presidency. You don’t think President Barack Obama and the Democratic brain trust had Warren delivering a prime time speech at the convention solely on her good looks, do you?

In fact, if this campaign is decided on the basis of telegenics, Brown wins in a landslide. He’s the cover of Esquire and GQ. She’s Granny on The Beverly Hillbillies, as Howie Carr of the Boston Herald had observed. Fortunately, we still have hope voters are not that shallow and can’t be dissuaded from issues by the pancake makeup and The Perfect Hair. We are perfectly willing to be counted among the naive in that.

Nationwide, tea-leafers watch the race for clues to how the Senate will shake out in November. We here in Massachusetts have as our chief interest hegemony vs. nominally “balanced” government. A Warren victory will give us, again, monolithic party representation in Washington — never a good thing. A Brown win sends the “opposition” to D.C. to a counterbalance that shall be for the overall benefit of  Bay Staters.

Lots of Good Issues, but ‘Independence’ Tops them All by Including them All

What are the key issues in this race? Depends on who you ask. The usual suspects — and ones good enough to place at the scene of the crime and convict in court of public opinion — include jobs, taxes, balanced budget, and national security. Lesser issues (though still on the radar) include immigration, women’s rights, and veteran affairs. All good ones, no doubt, but perhaps the most important is Independence. By that, we mean sending a representative who will advocate for people first, party second. Brown has a proven track record in that area. On the other hand, it’s hard to see Warren as anything but beholden to the Democratic Party, or rather, the interests that control the party such as teachers unions and the shadowy Big Money Men. Warren didn’t pull $24 million out of the thin air. As we know, Pretty Polly in this amount does not grow on trees for the plucking.

Going by his voting record, Brown has that rare ability of approaching issues on the basis of clarity that can only come from an open mind. He has shown the way in his ability to embrace an idea from across the aisle and compromise, which is the art of politics. He has demonstrated  a willingness to work with anyone who has a better idea. That’s refreshing and seen far too little on Capitol Hill. Indeed, Brown  has “crossed the aisle” more than any other member of the Senate.

Regulars on THE PLANET know what we think of endorsements. They are the bric-a-brac of campaigns, dust-collecting knick-knacks that may look good on a candidate’s resume but in fact have little weight. Nonetheless, little weight is better than none at all. In this vein, THE PLANET notes the endorsement of Brown by former Lowell mayor Rita Mercier, one of that city’s and region’s most prominent Democrats.

Who is the Most Credible? Who is the Most Credi-Bull?

Can Elizabeth Warren be believed? In asking, the question becomes, “Can she be trusted with representing the interests of all the citizens of Massachusetts without being compromised by the Big Money that has boosted her campaign?” To answer that question, we share a new msicrosite of the Brown campaign. We invite readers to explore the information in this site.

Site Offers An In-Depth Look At The Topics Unlikely To Arise During The Harvard Professor’s DNC Address
BOSTON – One day before Elizabeth Warren’s prime-time address to the Democratic National Convention, the Brown campaign today released a new microsite called “The Real Warren.”

Available at www.TheRealWarren.com, the site is designed to inform Democratic delegates, members of the media, visitors to Charlotte and other interested parties about the less familiar side of the Harvard Professor. It includes comprehensive research about Professor Warren’s record, broken into the following sections:

  • The Rant, which looks at Warren’s anti-free enterprise screed that went viral last summer and sparked a national discussion about who is responsible for the success of businesses.
  • What She’s Hiding, which examines Warren’s pitiful record on transparency, including her tax returns, her outside legal work, her work on the Congressional Oversight Panel (COP) and her university personnel files.
  • Hypocrite, which explores her long record of saying one thing while doing another, ranging from lobbyists to tax returns to her work on behalf of corporate interests.
  • Travelers Insurance, which features an in-depth look at Warren’s decision to put the financial interests of a Big Insurance company over those of asbestos victims.
  • Tax & Spend Addict, which analyzes Warren’s insatiable appetite for more debt and higher taxes to the tune of $3.4 trillion.
  • Fake Indian, which breaks down Warren’s false claims and changing stories about her supposed minority status.
  • Occupy Founder, which recaps Warren’s now-infamous boast that she created the “intellectual foundation” for the radical Occupy protest movement.

“Elizabeth Warren is not who she says she is,” said Jim Barnett, campaign manager for Scott Brown. ”The Real Warren will be a helpful resource for those looking to cut through the rhetoric, and find the truth about Warren.”

The hot link, above, contains the details.

No Candidate Pitches a Perfect Game, but One is Always Better than the Other, and in this Case, it’s Brown

In response to Warren’s backers, who will no doubt claim we have some hidden reason for our support of Brown, please remember THE PLANET’s track record. We are an “equal opportunity basher.” Unbought and unbossed, we have taken Republicans and Democrats, alike, to the shed out back to administer our famous Wood Shampoos. The reality is this: In a campaign, candidates present voters with two sets of information. By definition and on the whole, one has to be more credible than the other. In this race, the more credible claims belong to Scott Brown.

THE PLANET doesn’t agree with him on every issue,  for example, his stance on national security, where he would basically continue to allow the Pentagon a blank check in the phony “war on terrorism.” On health care, he wants to repeal Obamacare. In wanting to get rid of certain components of health care reform, Brown is willing to support its repeal in Congress, the baby and the bath water doing a synchronized swan dive out the window. In total, however, we think Brown offers Massachusetts the best representation on the most issues with the least amount of party pandering.

As always, THE PLANET welcomes your views.

DV-Can you give specific examples of how Senator Brown has stood for people over party as you said? Also, I wonder why Senator Brown did not speak at the RNC? Perhaps to keep his views in the shadows during this race? I’m not completely sold on Ms Warren believe me DV, her being in lockstep with President Obama, should he get reelected, is not a good thing I agree, but I’m telling you Scott Brown for all his positive personal attributes seems like a wolf in sheeps clothing. Yes, he is not a complete lunatic tea party fringe candidate but boy if he doesn’t seem like he has saddled up to the monied interests away from Joe and Mary Kapanick as you say…

He’s been in office for 6 years, so I don’t see how you can be so mistrustful of his “agenda” compared to Warren’s, especially since she is the one promising “hope and change”.

@ Wilson-Ted Kennedy died in 2009, so Scott Brown has not been in office for 6 yrs but rather 3..and his agenda is out there for all to see…He sided with his own party in most if not all of the bills where his vote mattered…Can you cite anything that shows I wrong?

DV- Not a balanced look at this race at all….At least present facts FROM Both Sides….How about Brown, will he represent the people or be swayed by his big money donors who are generally far more dangerous than the other sides donors…How about his pledge he signed promising to never raise taxes, how about that many of the times he “crossed the aisle” as you said were throwaway votes that meant nothing but window dressing…Can you site examples of him being open minded and going against his party where his vote actually mattered….Cmon DV…Hey I’ll admit , his ADs are great and he’s the kinda guy you’d wanna have a beer with, I had lunch with him actually in Pittsfield last yr when he visited the Rotary CLub and hi is an affable guy but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna give him my vote..I’m still undecided actually who would be most effective for our state and our Country…Cmon DV you just like how he looks in his barn jacket and pickup truck right? Otherwise please cite specific examples of what you claimed above and you’ll have my ear..

You keep asking for specifics Hilly. Guess you haven’t been following the campaign only listening to Warren’s ads. Im like you I went into this not knowing and not sure. I find Sen Browns points moreto the point, more specific.

Brown is a lap dog for the most extreme members of the Republican party. He only appears moderate when it will save his own skin. He is as phony as his barn coat and pick-up truck.

See his voting record at:

Scott Brown isn’t a progressive that’s enough for me, STOC Act 2011 Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge 2011, you know the stuff that made Pelosi and Reid and hundreds of others millionaires. They both have thier faults true but when it’s a choice between Granny and the guy who drives a pick up my vote goes to Scott so far anyway. Granny is just way too progressive for me to stomach. Although I would like to try some pow wow recipes from her cookbook if anyone has some to share.

Gee there Hill Billy…. For one who states “I’m uncommitted”, you sure as hell sound awfully committed to most anyone that can read!

I sure as hell hope Scott Brown beats Old Granny… We could sure as hell use a differing point of view here in Taxachusetts!

On another point…. This electoral college bullshit has sure as hell got to go. What this all boils down to in presidential races is that six or seven states determine the presidency. The others, may as well not vote because their constituencies are so one sided. Especially (don’t Blame me I’m from) Massachusetts! Why the hell shouldn’t my vote count just because I live amongst a bunch of freekin idiots!

Get rid of the Electoral College and you deal a major blow to State Rights.

One man one vote, but the President is chosen by the the States, not the majority of voters.

Good info that the “champ of the little guy” Dan Valenti doesn’t want you to know. He got demoted from Romney speechwriter to Scott Brown campaign That explains his sudden pushing of the senator. Why was he at the 4 Seasons on Monday and Tuesday i Boston helping on the scout team prepping Brown for tonight’s debate. Got it from a source, Valenti raking in $1500 a week as a Brown consultant. Hes for the Little guy. Ate today at Blantyre in case you’re interested.

I can only say, Pitts Believer, that if DV help prep Scott Brown for the debate, it was money well spent for Sen. Brown, as I thought he mopped up tonight. Great performance. He seemed assured. She seemed shrill and emotional.

You kidding about Brown “mopping up,” right?!? And I thought Harry Reid was brilliant in his part for making it impossible for Brown to duck the debate.

If you’re not being ironic, you’re certainly in the minority. Double-digits say Warren won.:
55% Warren
37% Brown

YEAH AND WHY WAS VALenti in the studios tonight with Brown, holding his hand? He’s on the road back to the Berkshires at this moment. Valenti is on call from now to Election as a lackey media consultant for Scott Brown, this carraion of the Little Guy. Valenti is a threat and a danger to the social well being.

Its sad and almost laughable that the website bashing warren is blocked by my schools firewall, as is foxnew.com and the drudge report. Yet, CNN, msnbc, and ant-brown websites come up with ease.

A sad day for freedom of speech

As I teach civics I try to provide my students with both sides of all issues. Currently we are discussing the senate race and presidential campaigns. They do weekly current events and candidate research so they can debate in class and make their own educated decisions. Plus have you heard of study hall? That’s when I catch up on news for class. Thank you.

I’m going with Brown although I don’t agree with him on all issues Warren is a socialist, anti gun, anti marijuana and pro higher tax. Those are my reasons. I don’t think she’s good for Mass. Scott also needs to get off his high horse when it comes to struggling families who are really in need of assistance as his family was. I will write him and tell him so if he is reelected.

Senator Brown has been both responsive and prompt in responding to the concerns I voiced.

Although I do have concerns with his sometime alliance with the progressive Pelousey/Dingy Harry Reid crowd of lying buffons.

This is GREAT contrast to his predecesor, who boated in a Buick, or our other liberal shill, Mr. Hienz 57 varieties of lies and BS.

Mz Warren would be a great step back into failed progressive/socialist polices.

A vote for Brown is a vote for traditional American values and norms.

Like Russia, China? or 1930s Gemany? vote for Warren comrade
