10 DAYS LATE AND A HALF-A-MILLION DOLLARS SHORT: THE BB SPINS MAYOR’s WEB WITH FICTION ON CITY HALL BASEMENT LEAK

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, TUESDAY, JULY 14, 2015) — THE PLANET told you before anyone else about how the bungled job of laying fiber-optic cable opened up a torrent of water that’s flooded the Pittsfield city hall basement.

It’s been mythologized into this little musical ditty. It goes like this:

This is the cable that Bianchi laid.

This is the flooding that resulted from the cable that Bianchi laid.

This is the move to 100 North St. that wasn’t needed that caused the flooding that resulted from the cable that Bianchi laid.

This is the landlord that profited royally from the move to 100 North St. that wasn’t needed that caused the flooding that resulted from the cable that Bianchi laid.

These are the taxpayers that were screwed by the money given to the landlord that profited royally from the move to 100 North St. that wasn’t needed that caused the flooding that resulted from the able that Bianchi laid.

Got all that?

Adventures in Moving

Taxpayers, your dumbass mayor shook you down for another half-a-million plus in the foolish Adventure in Moving known as 100Gate. That wasn’t enough, however. There is no bill yet for the repairs that are ongoing, no end in sight, for the basement flooding.

Taxpayers, you wouldn’t have known a thing if it wasn’t for THE PLANET. We broke the story on July 1. It took The Boring Broadsheet 10 days to catch up. And if we hadn’t done our investigating on your behalf, you wouldn’t have heard a thing about it. Naturally, since his default position is “sneaky,” your Amazing Transparent Mayor tried to squelch word of the leaks. You know the routine. “Lockdown! Lockdown!” Then rinse, wash, and repeat.

THE PLANET has sources, however, and we know how to use them. The mayor has no chance against The Secret Squadron. Neither does The BB.

The mayor told The BB the flooding was part of an ongoing problem. In other words, the botched trench work had noting to do with it. In fact, the mayor never even mentioned the actual cause of the problem. Since our good friend Jim Therrien works for The BB, he swallowed the mayor’s guff and asked for seconds. The problem in the city hall basement wasn’t flooding caused by 100Gate. It was a routine “evaluation of the stone foundation” of the building, part of a problem that’s longstanding.

Sure it was.

That’s how stupid The Suits think you are, citizens and taxpayers.

Tell Us If You’ve Heard This One Before

In Therrien’s lazy “us too” piece, we read how “[t]he basement has long been subject to leaks and damp conditions, as well as poor air quality …” The BB scribe apparently never thought to ask Hizzoner why the hell the mayor has done nothing to fix the problem. He’s only had four years. He wants four more.

Do you see the circularity? Those were precisely the phony reasons (leaks, damp, mold, air quality) cited in the mayor’s plot to reward his real-estate buddy with the rental plum. Of course, that’s why the mayor talks to The BB. He know he needn’t fear the tough question! Therrien can always fall back on The Nuremberg Defense: “I vas meerly following owdess.”

Reporter Andy McKeever of iBerkshires performed a tad better than The BB‘s JT — nine days later, not 10. He coaxed this “Miss America” air-headed comment from Julia Sabourin, the mayor’s third director of administrative services (he’s also on his third secretary): “They are just trying to diagnose the problem. This is the planning phase.”

Uh-oh, citizens. “This is just the planning phase.” Translation: “Taxpayers, the meter will be running for a long, long, time.”

Are the Monkeys Coming Home to Roost?

You remember Sabourin for her role in the infamous Scopes Monkey Trial, January 2012, in which the mayor orchestrated a frame-job on then-school committee member Terry Kinnas. The sham was revealed when state officials ruled in favor of Supercitizen Kinnas on all five Open Meeting Law violations he pressed against Sabourin and others. For her slippers-fetching act, the mayor rewarded Sabourin with the job of his assistant and immediately gave her a pay raise. Sabourin’s husband works for the Pittsfield School Department. The two take home probably $120,000 a year+bennies. In thanks, they moved out of Pittsfield to Richmond.

Back to iBerkshires. At least McKeever mentioned the cause, albeit in an implicit manner. He wrote, “The corner dug up this week is also in the same area where workers dug up and ran cables from City Hall to 100 North St. when the inspections departments were moved. Sabourin said part of the work being done this week is to determine if that installation had any additional impact on the flooding.”

You know, if Pittsfield were an actual city, its citizens would be up in arms demanding answers from its sneaky mayor. Political candidates would be in the press, pushing for answers. But we have candidates like Peter Marchetti, Jody Phillips, Peter White, Rick Scapin, Donna Todd Rivers, Rick Scapin, Linda Tyer, Joe Nichols, Josh Cutler, and Kathy Yon, blasts from the past who have yet to speak “a discouraging word.”

“Where is your Deliverer? O, Pittsfield: How long I have yearned to take you under my wing.”

True Pittsfield isn’t a “normal” city at all which is why I don’t have much hope for the future. We need some serious conservative candidates or independent candidates to pull us out of the quicksand. They need to be really smart and not afraid of telling it like it is. Really smart in comparison to who we have in office now and who is running for office wouldn’t be hard to manage. Until we can get rid of these old dinosaurs we don’t stand a chance.

I believe Pittsfield taxes have gone up something like 43 million dollars in just 12 years. How is that even possible? What happened that Pittsfield needed an extra 43 million dollars PER YEAR in that short time? And that does not even count the millions borrowed. And it is slated to climb a few million per year for ever and ever. Obviously you would not want these people managing your portfolio or even your child’s piggy bank.

Who and why asked him not to post? I thought DV was supporting him. He allowed him to post as much as he wanted. What changed?

Spider. Maybe it was because Craig was getting crazier and posting odd statements. I believe the word Imploding was the term Dan used to describe Craig.

and why do we even have traffic lights? Everyday I see trucks and buses and city vehicles blow through the green lights. Coltsville is the worst. Petricca trucks with big cement firing through. Even tanker trucks with hazardous waste signs. It is a free for all. One of these days one of these big trucks is going to take out a couple of families because the rules of red lights have been changed.

So Tammy, what is YOUR plan to fix the intersection? Talk is cheap. Just like the signs facing the public especially the children that walk past.

everyone knows what my neighbors are. If my signs bother you so much than mind your business and don’t look. Plus talk is cheap thats why no one takes you seriously.

From a neighbor who works in city hall DV’s coverage of this water problem presents the correct version. Was a breach caused by cable digging for 100 N St move.

At least we got the truth. Thank heavens for this site.

Judges used to be lawyers, nuff said. There feeding the system, the system that keeps them employed. Continuing cases that could be decided to drain money from defendants. Also slapping others on the wrist for serious offenses. The wheels of justice turn very slow and crooked. We need major reform. Signed, Cappy, Nilian and Dobelle.:-)

Sorry to change subject, but big baseball fan. Pittsfield post 68 team has dominated the regular season and earned s 1 seed in a 17 team league. Already despatched first round opponent easily, why not get them some games at Wahconah Park. Both teams would enjoy the confines of Wahconah Park, and isn’t that why we keep the old boy alive.

You gotta respect the Balls of the Nebraska College student selling easier a homework assignment catalog. I was coming out of the house at about 8 a. m. the student, from U of Nebraska is knocking on the door and has his SUV parked in the Driveway. Now that’s what I call total respect. I told him I wasn’t interested and was in a hurry, he replied he would come back at another time and told him no. Low and behold he arrived at my door at suppertime in 90 degree humid, muggy heat. I obliged him, told him no again, we reminisced about Nenbraska football, said good lick and he left. Did he have permits to do this? Does the City alllow door to door Ike this? Only in the PIT!

Most towns require a license for such door to door peddling.
They were doing this where I lived, people complained to the town and these people were escorted to the town line by the resident trooper never to be seen again.

Craig got his sigs, so let the games begin. Not so sure he can be on PCTV though, maybe, let’s hope so. So far he has has a few good ideas, like making managers responsible, reducing spending, whether prudent or not. If the man doesn’t fib I’ll give him the Bibb,to wipe the slate clean and lead The Pit out of misery and resurrect it to the great City it once was. So many factions. A tall task indeed!

Instead of focusing on reactive incidents., Tes needs to address the Citizens on the overall condition of crime in the Community. People are afraid, only the idiots think they are invincible. Also, Tes and Tyer have their backers and little clics. The average person in this community doesn’t stand a chance and those without jobs even worse. Craig said he doesn’t blame the Mayor for the shootings,he is responsible for the safety of it’s Citizens and needs to come up with a better game plan, the one he has now sucks. Other than proclamations everything he has done, sucks.
