Third, Joe Biden ends the interview by saying that “if you vote for Donald Trump, you ain’t black.” Yes, satire is no longer possible. The show is called The Breakfast Club. Real original, that. To radio fans, it’s the ultimate insult, or don’t you know of the original The Breakfast Club hosted by the great Don McNeil. It started our every weekday morning back in the day on WBRK. You ain’t white if you don’t know Don McNeil.
CRASH & THE NEW ‘NORMAL’ — Let’s see, 450 jobs lost at Kripalu, almost 300 at Crane Stationery, with local summer theater, Jacob’s Pillow, Suns baseball, and Tanglewood gone dark. The loss to Berkshire County and Pittsfield will be incalculable. It mirrors the national scene, where a 10-year run-up of the economy to historic highs took little more than four weeks to destroy. These losses occurred instantly in economic terms, the equivalent of driving a Lamborghini into a brick wall at 90 mph. There will eventually be a new “normal,” but the condition will finally take that word and wring-dry its meaning. Everyone wanted him for studio work, leaving Kooper little time for his own stuff. This album became a brilliant exception. (9) Alone Together by Dave Mason … Similar to Kooper. Mason spent much of his creative energy on friends’ projects. This album shows Mason to be a superb song writer and producer. Great acoustic guitar work. (8) Where’s the Money? by Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks … Recorded live at the Troudabor in L.A., this unique talent showed us that “old times” could be successfully fused to jazz, folk, rock, and pop. Nothing like it anywhere else, except in this band’s other albums, notably, Last Train to Hicksville. (7) Horizontal by the Bee Gees … The Brothers Gibb at their purest, before overproduction and then, horrors!, disco. (6) St. Dominick’s Preview by Van Morrison … The Voice, the songs, the style of the vocalizations, the arrangements. (5) Between the Buttons by the Rolling Stones … The album that links early Stones to all that came after, including much that would have better left unrecorded. Jagger and Richards at their peak. Not the blues-heavy early work, and not the self-indulgent morass of some that followed. Just a GREAT band at its peak. (4) Aqualung by Jethro Tull — Ian Anderson and Tull produced a ponderous body of A-Grade work. Aqualung is the best. (3) Smokin’ by Humble Pie. First time I heard Steve Marriot, rock’s greatest singer. Hard rock meets blues with a front man who had it all. Killeer track: “I Believe.” (2) Innervisions by Stevie Wonder … A perfect album, every track a revelation. “Higher Ground,” where Stevie’s plays and sings everything, might be the most flawless song in this genre of all time, considering the tune, lyrics, and production. And has there ever been a more haunting song about lost love than “All Is Fair In Love?” (1) Rubber Soul by The Beatles … We could have placed almost all of the Fab’s albums in a first-place tie, but the rules say one. We think Rubber Soul is in some ways even more influential than Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, the two that immediately followed. The group’s “acoustic” masterpiece sounds like they have been invited into your living room, playing for you and your honey, by the winter fire.
CITY BUDGET — Do we hafta? Yes, guess we do. Soon the city of Pittsfield will begin its annual exercise in continued thievery, also known as the municipal budget process. With politics corrupted by the undue influence of special interests topped by the school department and teachers’ unions, arriving at a fiscal spending plan has been reduced to the Administration calling up last year’s numbers, tacking on X%, and sending it to the council, which passes it unanimously or no more than 10-1, 9-2. Do you think even a pandemic will change that thinking? If any department budget MUST be slashed — not cut, not reduced, but slashed — it’s the public schools. We’ve long ago proven the direct correlation between simply throwing money into that black hole and the shocking decline in academic standards, quality, and performance. With every sector of the city suffering from the economic effects of the virus, soon to be magnified by attrition as well as the total shutdown of the county’s “recreation-and-resort” economy, rewarding the PSD with even a flat spending plan would be public officials hawking a COVID-19-laced loogie into the faces of Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski. That department, which eats up $120 million (about 72%) of the ENTIRE budget, must forfeit $12 million, minimum. If the mayor, finance director, Mercer, the school committee, or the council can’t see where to cut, THE PLANET offers our services for free. The cuts are there. Now, will Pittsfield officials finally put citizens over the vested interests? What do you think?
WATERSHIP DOWN — On Friday April 24, an operator at the city’s Cleveland Water Plant, which serves Pittsfield and Dalton, closed the wrong valve. This caused the chlorine feed to the filtered water to be shut off. An automated alarm system alerted a second operator, who then restored the system to proper operating conditions. The water supply went without treatment for 10 minutes. The good news here comes in multiples: (a) The automated warning system worked as it should. (b) The error got corrected in time; tests showed no presence of bacteria in the water. (c) The city properly notified all residents in both communities of the situation, a rare but welcome example of transparency in government.

In closing, Pittsfield’s tax base always shrinks, while its taxes, fees, and debts always increase.

Thanks for your service. But you served before Obama, Clinton and many other politicians who never served. Many of these politicians pulled stings for families members also ,so they were not to serve.They had no problem sending others children to fight though. And then there is those politicians who made sure that if a family member served it was usually stateside or far from the front lines.

His case and records are thick with diagnosis that made him unfit for duty. He spent the good part of 7 years fighting for full disability via the VA. The true act of a coward to blame the Army for mental disability he did not disclose prior to service.
He has milked the system. It’s been observed that he entered into military service with the sole purpose of “blaming his military service for numerous pre-existing and disqualifying maladies”. That he should “receive no benefit as none of his disabilities are service related but are due to psycho-sexual trauma he endured prior to enlistment”.
If you would like copies of the trial notes and transcripts and all hearing and trial related materials that requires a FOIA request to the VA. Some of it is redacted but very little is.
Pay close attention to the notes of the NH VA doctors, they tell the bulk of the story.

When I was a Soldier in the U.S. Army, another Soldier was sleep deprived and jackknifed a 5 ton military vehicle into a mother driving her son to an elementary school in Germany. In Germany, there was outrage that a negligent on duty American Soldier killed a German civilian mother and her son. That Soldier was court martialed and dishonorably discharged. A month later in a freezing mid-January 2001 winter, my Staff Sergeant ordered me to pull many consecutive 24 hour duty shifts against Army regulations. A Soldier in my platoon threatened me by holding a steel bar to my head. I reported the incident, but only I was punished for telling him to “go to Hell”. Then, my abusive Staff Sergeant ordered me to drive a 5 ton Army vehicle over civilian roads. I knew what happened a month earlier, I was freezing, threatened, and sleep deprived, and I refused to comply with his illegal order. I had a mental breakdown. I received an Honorable discharge based on a psychiatric condition. In the Summer of 2004, the then sitting U.S. President, George W. Bush, ordered my a hearing at the VA Central Office near the White House in Washington, D.C. 4 years later, in the Summer of 2008, I was granted service connection VA disability benefits. I am now a 100% service connected disabled Veteran.

Do not expect much financial help from the Federal govt. even if it was already promised and budgeted. The state is going to be upside down and also not able to help Pittsfield. But Pittsfield will pretty much continue on as normal feeling like their own major source of income, Kapinski Cash, is still there for the bleeding. Very little will be cut, nothing will be shut down, hardly anyone layed off and the taxpayers, many whom need help themselves will be bled. The city will apply its leeches and suck whatever more they can.
The financial hardship this pandemic is bringing requires a mayor with the courage to chop and slash. Of course people will be unhappy but that is part of the job. Also a great time to stop the God damn handouts. This is a time for real leadership and that definitely includes telling the school department to stop their whining and begging and cut to the bone.

Many Americans are saying they will not get a COVID-19 vaccine if it becomes available. This destroys the plan of many Democrat governors who are refusing to open their states until a vaccine is available. Holding off opening their state until there is a vaccine is a stupid idea in the first place, but with many people saying they would refuse a vaccine, these states need to open very soon.
Was listening to PBS radio this morn. They were interviewing some French official and they were discussing France opening up and the measures they were taking. One of the measures was that visitors from the “west” would not be welcome for some time. So as long as Trump keeps Americas numbers on top nobody is going to be visiting France. Don’t pretend that Nancy Pelosi, Biden, AOC, Cuomo and the New York Times wanted President Trump to close travel from Europe to our country, which he did several weeks later, but not on the same day as travel from China (Jan. 31st). When I studied public administration, I learned that when a family and/or small business looks at a community to live in they look at the quality of public safety and public education. I understand that it is an elitist argument to say that people vote with their feet, but if a community wants economic growth and living wage jobs, then the taxpayers should invest in keeping their streets safe and their public schools well funded.
If municipal taxpayers pay an optimal amount of local taxes, then the values of their properties will increase in value. Likewise, if they don’t and pay less, then the values of their properties will drop in value. A community should always ask itself the following question: “Would a middle class family want their children to grow up in our community?”
I believe that if the state government equitably funded public education in Massachusetts, then local governments would not have make up the difference. Wealthy suburbs like Wellesley – the 7th wealthiest city in the United States in 2018 – have mostly million dollar homes and can easily make up the difference in the lack of state funding, while Pittsfield cannot. Public education in Massachusetts favors Wellesley over Pittsfield. It is very inequitable public policy! What it really means is that there is no “public” education in Massachusetts.
State Representative John Barrett III understands that Massachusetts’ public education formula is outdated and unfair to his Northern Berkshire County legislative district. He campaigned about this important issue for the children who live in distressed economic zip codes.
