DEM CONVENTION FAR TOO CONVENTIONAL … or … IS ANYONE LEFT WHO’s NOT A ‘RACIST?’

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION AUG. 21-3, 2020) — As is THE PLANET‘s custom, we do not comment extensively on a presidential campaign until the conventions are over and we’re into October, “the cruelest month” for its chance of turning tides and launching surprise. We pretend we have heard nothing of both tickets so better to judge the campaigns on their effectiveness. Hard to do with the nonstop hype, one of the faults of our endless, non-stop presidential cycles. They drag on in snake-eating-its-tale circularity. The day after Nov. 3, with the uncertain, shaky assumption the election will have been decided and conceded (two different things), we will hear talk of the early line on 2024.
Conventions, however, even virtual ones, lead with their chin and the coronations give plenty to write about. THE PLANET remembers when conventions mattered. Party members attended not knowing which favorite son would get the nod. Today, they are, as one commentator said, infomercials. Not much in the way of reliability can be learned at such non-events. We do have a few thoughts to share:
- Joe Biden’s wife Jill made the best speech, touching on the human side of her husband. It wasn’t the lame, polished B.S. but a heartfelt pitch for her guy.
- Worst speech? Kamala Harris. She started shaky, voice quivering. She warmed up a bit when she started talking about the pandemic, the virus she says has infected every American who doesn’t agree with her on the issues. Not, we don’t mean COVID-19. It’s racism, man. Everybody’s a racist.
- The four days has been “racist this” and “racist that,” as if that’s America’s biggest problem and as if electing Biden-Harris will miraculously change hearts and minds.
- Alexandria Ortiz-Minority took her one-minute of speech time to … actually, it was over so fast we forget. Interesting that the party big wigs only gave The Squat 60 seconds of exposure. They don’t want the five amigas near prime time.
- Michelle O’Bama got her Irish up, spitting out a bitter speech displaying her one true talent: marrying the right guy.
- Her husband the former president showed that he’s a slick orator. Beware of them. They start singing, and the next thing you know you own a timeshare you’ll never visit.
- Nowhere at no time in the convention did anyone mention the rioting and brutal attacks launched in American cities by Black Lives Matter and Antifa.
With Joe set for his big speech, THE PLANET shall continue watching the paint dry.

The one sure thing about Nov. 3 will be controversy. The reliance on mail-in ballots via the Postal Service is a disaster waiting to happen.
Ballots will be mass-mailed to voter lists, which are about as accurate as Matt Kerwood’s first set of books. The ballots will not be indexed, and there is no tracking once they are printed and returned through the mail. What could go wrong, especially with the postal workers’ union in the pockets of Democrats? President Trump didn’t have to conspire to make the postal service inefficient and incompetent. It’s been that way for years. It’s funny. When we communicate with each other, we use e-mail and texts. When we pay our bills, we do it online. Our banking we do electronically. When the government sends Social Security checks, they do the same thing as your employer: direct deposit. But when the country goes about its most important civic activity, it relies on the Pony Express.
Suppose they gave an election an no one showed up?

I can’t help but laugh as they keep referring to Kamaka Harris as black, even funnier I actually heard one media clown call her African American. I don’t get it because she is just as much Indian as she is Jamaican but she certainly is in no way African anything.

Biden is know for plagiarizing speeches, using his political influence to get millions of dollars from Ukraine and China for himself and his family, making comments that do sound racist, but which are ignored by the far left media, spying on a presidential campaign, and doing nothing throughout his nearly 50 year career in politics that really stands out as exceptional. He is part of the political swamp in Washington.
And what is Trump good for? Cheating with the Russians to win the presidency. Lies like an old dog. Cheats on his wives. Listening to Obama was refreshing and depressing. Refreshing because it reminded how a President should speak and act. I agree that Obama and Biden are part of the political swamp in Washington and the contrast between an Obama speech and a Trump speech is striking. Speaking and acting like a typical president means that telling the truth is not high on the list of priorities. Obama’s speech needed serious fact-checking. Some Americans like being told what they want to hear. A President Trump speech is like a breath of fresh air as compared to the speech of any Washington career politician. I already gave my thoughts on Michelle Obama’s speech. It was mainly all about racism. The amazing accomplishments of President Trump were ignored and made fun of by everyone at the Democratic convention.
What part needed fact checking?

Speaking of the DNC…as of August 12, our State is no longer providing COVID stats broken out by age group. Surely it’s no coincidence that this change occurred at the same time that people are finally starting to figure things out. Back to COVID. Not even going to provide commentary, just a few MA stats up to August 11, 2020. Nothing else needs to be said.
44,344 people aged 0-40 had gotten COVID. 53 deaths (zero under 20), for a death rate (among known cases only) of 0.12%
80,649 known cases 0-60, 460 deaths. Death rate of 0.57%
15,548 cases over 80, 5,496 deaths. Death rate of 35.35%
National data mirrors this. One of the few journalists who is on top of this is Alex Berenson, fyi. Has uncovered a number of other interesting nuances. Such as, death rate among the young was HIGHEST during the complete lockdown phase.

The latest predictions are for 310,000 deaths by December 1st.
Predictions are useless. Especially given the way COVID deaths are classified. But let’s ignore all that and assume that the 310,000 number comes to pass. Extrapolating out, about 2,000 of those 310,000 will be individuals under 35. Which is fewer than the number of Flu deaths in that cohort during a typical year.

New York State is a sodden mess. They get more revenue than some European countries and they can’t manage themselves to efficiently execute the public services. They have sooo much graft and way too many civil servant patronage jobs. Have you ever been in a state office? 30 percent of staff are paper weights and do absolutely nothing but plan their next vacation. You will pay 10k property tax a year on a 300k house and if you fix anything they will immediate raise it. They can’t lower taxes and fire staff as it would crash the economy. All this BTW is the plan Mayor Clairmont wants for Western, Ma.

I am for some spending. I think we should have public health. BHS has shown that we should as the majority of their care (if it could be called that) is paid for by government funds. The other patients over pay for substandard care. If we have bankruptcies over Covid care it’s just proves medical care should be covered by the government. It’s not adequate to leave it to private enterprise.

The reality of it is, I tune into Fox almost daily, in addition to CNN and MSN and I read news from multiple sources, both left and right. I try not to comment much on this stuff, as I would prefer this blog would focus on local stuff, as the internet is already filled with people on the left and right bashing each other, but sometimes the things you guys say just begs a response.
The fact of the matter is, that whether you lean left, right, or somewhere in between we are all neighbors here in the Berkshires, and I assume we want the best for everyone. So it would be nice if the constant right /left crap could be turned down and we could just focus on relevant local issues.
I do. I watch them all even the ones that make me want to become very ill like CNN and MSNBC. With a presidential election coming up I think we need to focus on it because with such different political views represented by Biden and Trump, it will determine local issues. If we go Marxist/Socialist, you can bet that will have an effect on local politics. I think locals don’t want to talk about it because, just like Biden is taking so few questions about his plans, Progressives don’t want to discuss the particulars because they are so extremist and would frighten voters.

Don’t be ridiculous. I had to go out to the Portland area for business recently. The city has been destroyed and turned into an asylum. Drove around a few outer-sections of the city, but didn’t dare head far downtown. Did not see a single person or message or symbol associated with anything remotely “conservative,” let alone far right. BLM and antifa rule the streets – together. Used to love places like Portland and Bend, but will never go there again unless out of business necessity.

Berkshire county is not coding cases properly. They are coding them to where the people are from. They are supposed to code them to where the people TEST. Second home owners coming to the Berkshires and staying are a danger to US.

Think about it, whomever wins for the Senate or Congress seats, are they going to give a little extra support to Pittsfield when our City Councillors supported the other side, they are going to look the other way. The taxpayers elected them to work for the success and prosperity of Pittsfield. Take a look around folks, this is not happening, the City is a total mess and none of them seem to see it or care. As long as they get their insurance, salary and build their pension they are content. This is shameful and disgusting.

Mass hospitals have been open for elective procedures for months. Very noticeable that your argument has shifted from “they lie about the numbers because they want Berkshire County open for business” to lying because they want to continue elective procedures – something nobody with an ounce of sanity would consider changing. Consider the state of affairs in MA. The positivity rate of COVID tests rose rapidly (but linearly) in March as testing ramped up and peaked at 28.15% on April 14. There were 7,517 tests that day, 2,263 were positive. Since that time, the 7 day rolling average of test positivity has been on a steady, linear decline. The numbers are actually fascinating. No blips at all, a steady, methodical decline to where we are today, which is this: 1.1% of tests now come back positive.
There was no blip in that rate as restrictions were relaxed and people re-emerged from hiding. Just the opposite. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

Its simple. In normal absentee ballots you have to request it.
In mail in voting you automatically get one sent out to you, if you requested it or not based on some idea of your last known address from a local town clerk.
In Pittsfield the city clerk is completely inept. They can’t even figure out dog licenses or the mailing of ballots with appropriate postage.
So these unsolicited ballots are just mailed out to last known addresses. That’s where the fraud will happen. I bought my house seven years ago. The previous owner died in the city of Pittsfield. I still get mail from the city in his name.
I got a MVE bill for him seven years after his death for a 2018 bill. I get city census mail for him every year. They know he’s dead.

“Pittsfield putting halt to donations at Springside Park for homeless”

PITTSFIELD — Starting Monday, the city no longer will allow donations to be accepted or stored at the pavilion at Springside Park.
The Parks Commission voted this week to direct donations to Barton’s Crossing, the Christian Center or the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community for those experiencing homelessness. Donors should reach out to those organizations to coordinate a drop-off with them directly, according to a news release from Mayor Linda Tyer’s office.
The pavilion has been serving as a drop-off location for donations from those concerned about the city’s homeless taking residence in Springside Park.
The commission, in a statement this week, said it has growing concerns about “inappropriate behavior” that, it claims, is becoming more common at the park. But, the commission said its position has been to be “compassionately tolerant” and allow those experiencing homelessness to shelter in parks.
“Although this use is in violation of park rules which state that parks are closed from dusk to dawn, we do now want to withdraw our tolerance at this time,” the statement read.
The decision of the commission to disallow drop-off donations at the pavilion was made “in order to create a more streamlined and efficient system for the storage and distribution of donations” that had been arriving, according to the mayor’s office.
