(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION NOV. 13-5, 2020) — In large part due to THE PLANET‘s coverage and the relentless nature of the community’s ensuing discussions, the City of Pittsfield has issued emergency orders to combat an alarming uptick in new COVID-19 cases.
“You were the only one who talked about this,” said one city hall source. “I think [THE PLANET‘s] investigation helped move [the city] to act and act promptly. You got into the details of a lot of stuff that would have remained hidden.”
In between those lines: Once again, local and lame-stream media has to play catchup with THE PLANET, who alone dares to look behind the drawn curtains.
Now the news.
Just since yesterday, the Hot Harry’s locations in Pittsfield shut down due to the manager contacting the virus, sources said. It’s not know how many staff or customers were infected. Also, sources say the Proprietor’s Lounge may have contributed to the new outbreak by hosting a Halloween gathering where adults freely mingled without social distancing or masks, with children going to various tables for candy. Also, 99 has been shuttered due to undisclosed incidents related to the virus.
Responding to a wave of frustration and anger over the arrogance of taverns and private groups as well as the state’s designation of Pittsfield as a Code Red COVID city, the mayor’s office issued the following release:

Steady uptick in COVID-19 cases in Pittsfield result in new restrictions, temporary closures
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 12, 2020) – With the number of new positive COVID-19 cases continuing to rise in Pittsfield, and with growing levels of concern for the potential of further community spread, on Thursday, the city’s COVID-19 Task Force identified several immediate actions to slow the spread of the virus in the city.
Since Oct. 22, there have been 169 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pittsfield. These cases have been directly attributed to large get-togethers in restaurants and large private gatherings held in residences and attended by individuals from multiple households.
“We have reached a point of crisis in our city that impacts our entire community. The number of COVID-19 cases have grown exponentially over a very short period of time,” said Mayor Linda Tyer. “Based on our current case rates and using the state’s new calculations to determine risk, Pittsfield has moved into the red category, making us a high-risk community. We need to take aggressive action now to get us back on the right course and reverse this alarming trend.”
Beginning Friday, Nov. 13, all of the following actions will take effect:
- Today, the Pittsfield Board of Health will be issuing an emergency order suspending table service at city restaurants until further notice. Local eateries will still be allowed to provide take-out and delivery service. Patrons should feel free to utilize the city’s temporary “grab-and-go” zones for food pickup, which were installed this past spring throughout the downtown. These designated areas offer free and time limited space to allow for quick customer turnover and social distancing.
- Pittsfield Public Schools will transition to all-remote learning through Friday, Dec. 4. Current elementary, middle, and high school schedules will be followed.
Meals will be available tomorrow for children 18 and under. They can be picked up between 11:45 a.m. -12:15 p.m. at the following sites:
o Conte Community School, 200 W. Union St.
o Morningside Community School, 100 Burbank St.
o Allendale Elementary School, 180 Connecticut Ave. o Egremont Elementary School, 84 Egremont Ave.

The Board of Health will issue an emergency order stepping back the City of Pittsfield to Step 1 of Phase 3. Until further notice, the following sectors are no longer permitted to do the following:
o Indoor performance venues will be permitted to open with 50 percent capacity with a maximum of 250 people.
o Outdoor performance venue capacity will increase to 50 percent with a max of 250 people.
o For arcades and indoor and outdoor recreation businesses, additional Step II activities like trampolines, obstacle courses, roller rinks and laser tag will also be permitted to open and capacity will increase to 50 percent.
o Fitting rooms will be permitted to open in all types of retail stores.
o Gyms, museums, libraries and driving and flight schools will also be
permitted to increase their capacity to 50 percent.
Being a high-risk community also means that the state’s current gathering order changes in one way. Currently, the gathering limits are:
o Indoor gatherings at private residences is 10.
o Outdoor gathering limit for private residences is 25 people.
o Indoor gatherings at event venues and other public spaces is 25.
o Now that Pittsfield is high-risk, outdoor gatherings are now reduced to 50.

To arrange fingerprinting for firearms, please the Pittsfield Police Department at 448-9716; for licensing prints, please call 448-9723.

That’s a decent start, but it doesn’t go far enough. All indoor and outdoor performance venues should be shut down entirely, along with arcades and the recreation businesses that will be allowed to stay open. The new rules permit up to 250 people to attend. It will be impossible to practice safe health with so many people. It leads to the fair question of just how concerned is the city when it builds in these end-arounds.
Besides officials, THE PLANET has heard from many citizens who have shared stories. Here are two of them. The first is from Gregg Williams:

“I just finished reading[THE PLANET’s] coverage. You put as much out there as you could without speculating, but Yuki, while trying to cover her ass, basically admitted that she lets people into her bar to just drink. She let non-staff stay after hours and have a ‘shift drink’? All of which are against the COVID regulations. And we all know that nothing will happen. The trail of COVID that left her bar that night has closed down other restaurants. Sage and Madison Soldato, daughters of Mickey and Lynn of Zucchinis and Roasted Garlic, where in Methuseleh’s that night, Madison is 18. They both have tested positive, but not before going to get their hair and nails done and serving customers at their parents’ restaurants while waiting for their test results. So irresponsible. That is why the two restaurants closed, not to ‘deep clean” but because they had to.
“I have heard from a lot of people that are pissed to find out about stuff like this happening. Methuselah is a late-night hangout for other restaurants and bar staff to go for drinks, and it only takes a quick stop in there after 11 to see it. Now with the new time for closing hopefully that will end.
THE PLANET‘s coverage is this story could only have been done with the help of concerned citizens that (a) have credible and specific information and (b) are willing to share it. The most frustrating aspect of this recent outbreak is that it never had to happen at all. As the mayor’s press release says, the selfishness of certain restaurants, bars, and people who hosted and attended large, private gatherings has once again sent the city back onto the trash heap.

Hello! as an employee of Proprietors, someone who lost my job today due to the shut down, I am even more distraught now by reading the article. A halloween party as accused of, never occurred at my job as I have worked every single day. Since opening in June my coworkers and I have put our blood sweat and tears into enforcing safety measures for my customers and am beyond frustrated, depressed and simply angry at others who have ruined it for the rest of us. It is CLEAR that this city is working in favor of certain establishments, and against others. But it would be heavily appreciated if accusations were properly fact checked (such as this claimed Halloween party) before slandering local businesses in such a small town during this horrific time, and on the very day so many people were laid off. The city needs to take ownership for allowing certain businesses to disregard COVID safety guidelines and not punish the rest. It is NOVEMBER the city has been made aware of Methuselahs actions all summer long. Why is it that things are only now coming to light when other businesses seem to be involved? Seems like a convenient way to deflect.

The Licensing Board has suspended the license of Proprietor’s Lodge after it hosted a wedding in July that drew almost 120 people.
The board voted 3-2 Monday to suspend the alcohol license from Aug. 30 to Sep. 5 because the wedding was not in compliance with Gov. Charlie Baker’s pandemic orders.
“There is evidence that the licensee violated Governor Baker’s order No. 44; there is also evidence that the licensee essentially admitted that,” Chairman Thomas Campoli said. “I don’t believe Proprietor’s is taking this seriously.”
“ Manager Candice Lyon said attendees were only allowed to take their masks off while eating and she did her best to enforce this.
“It is really important to me, and my staff is really important to me,” she said. “Three of my daughters were there, so I really do try to make them safe.”

So don’t pretend you are innocent in this, in the short time Proprietors has been open they’ve violated a number of rules, even before Covid.
I appreciate your research and your interest in the Lodge! I am fully aware of all of this, as well as a lot more that is conveniently not mentioned to the public on prop’s behalf. As for the wedding, you’re right, we were penalized to certain guests from a wedding taking their masks off at certain points. What wasn’t explained to the public is that Proprietors actually had no staff on site that day. The restaurant had made the financially crippling decision to close on this day to provide for as much social distancing as possible for the wedding. This means that since we had no staff on site, there was an outside catering company there running the show who saw zero consequences to this! This is what I mean when I tell you my coworkers and I were frustrated with having a perfect summer with the guidelines until the one day we are not there to enforce them. Even a member of the licensing board said to us things have been perfect until this day. We fully understood what happened at the wedding and if you are upset about it still it is understandable! But it is also important to fully understand what happened and the fact that a business was shut down for one violation while others were ignored while there were violating all summer long. Also understand how that effects over 35 employees who weren’t even present for the matter.
As for the Halloween pumpkin decorating, thank you for bringing that up! It was actually my idea. I was so excited to be able to give advertise a way for kids to enjoy their halloween in such a harmless and safe way. What we advertised and conducted was fully socially distanced. The kids were given pumpkins and paint at their tables while they were waiting for their meals and their parents were thrilled. It was a quieter night but it was a great small way for us to extend our business during what has been the hardest time. When one table was leaving there was another table that offered their kids a piece of candy. Im aware of the group photo you are referring to and if it makes you feel any better, those people were sitting at the same table any ways.
I guess my main point when I originally posted is this: if you really can’t see the difference between a business offering a small way to families for them to help their business and Methuselah literally breaking every rule in the book all summer long then that is a huge issue.
I have been into Meth on several occasions this summer, all of which I was never asked to order food, the tables were all on top of each other and there were so many people standing with no masks that I could not even move. ALL of these occasions I know for a fact that the city was notified, sent photos, and ignored it. Meanwhile we were given a major penalty for one violation. If you can’t see the difference between these two and the problem with our city officials, then I urge you to open your eyes a bit wider.

“Taylor said there was only one out-of-town guest.” Again a lie, I know many of the people at that wedding, many were from “out of town” as well as “out of state”.
I just mentioned two violations but we can go into all of them if you like, there are many. There’s also the fact that you’ve lied repeatedly in the few posts you’ve made here.
The owner has lied, as has the manager numerous times, they lied half a dozen times in the meeting over the Covid wedding. There’s both a video and transcripts of it along with plenty of reporting.
They lied about the tests, they lied about the number of guests, they lied about mask enforcement.
There are dozens of pictures on the internet of violations at the Proprietors Lodge. There are dozens pictures of people that shouldn’t have alcohol on site all over Instagram, Facebook, and tiktok. Violations are like speeders, not everyone gets punished but that doesn’t mean you weren’t wrong and don’t deserve punishment. You’ve gotten plenty of passes.
If you have a problem with enforcement, take it up with the city.
Want to talk about the Halloween mess you created? I have pictures of children going table to table, no masks, going up to strangers getting pictures taken, getting candy. Parents posting on Instagram pictures of their kids no masks with staff with no masks. It’s not just one picture it’s maybe half a dozen.
But here’s the saddest part, you are just like Yuki. You continue to lie about your own responsibility while bemoaning others aren’t getting caught. That makes your position one of “if they didn’t get caught, we shouldn’t get caught.
Here’s what I’m going to do for you, I promise you I’m going to open my eyes very wide, and I’m going to turn it towards the lodge. When city hall opens again, it might be in 3 months, it might be in 6 months. I will make sure to present EVERY picture and video I have of every violation that I have from your establishment’s operation. From the mundane parking issues, to the guests urinating on neighbors bushes, to other problems, as yet not discussed, but serious enough to close you down for good. I’ll present them to the BOH, building inspector, DEP, licensing board, and to the State. Then you can argue their validity to the authorities who oversee your licenses. If they give you a pass, good for you. If they close you down temporarily or for good, make sure you complain how it’s unfair.

I know you are referring to the two children and myself who visited that night. So let me make this clear. I had a mask, the kids were in literal bubbles of costumes specially due to the pandemic. We did a SAFE trick or treat only around my yard. Candace was nice enough to have put aside a couple of WRAPPED canDy bags for my boys and when we went there(our only outing of the night ) the two boys in there completely contained costumes did a short walk by all the tables near the patio. One table of adults who never even got up asked for a picture. It’s so sad you are willing to use anyone and anything you can to help in your witch-hunt of proprietors, but we had nothing but the safest of interactions that evening and anytime we’ve ever been there. In the future I fully expect you to leave me and my family out of you and your few neighbors vindictive assault of this restaurant.

This is the place that had 120 people and 20 working a wedding. Nobody was wearing masks. They lost their license for a week. This is the place that has violated just about every order and restriction the city put on them, from parking, to music, to hours they are allowed to serve alcohol.
That was in July so if this woman had been working there, she did a really bad job at enforcing masks or safety. People were shoulder to shoulder, no masks and in July you couldn’t get a walk-in Covid test on demand so they lied about that too.

Elon Musk reported being tested today and received 2 positive tests and 2 negative tests on the same equipment (BD) on the same day.
It has also been reported that Fisher Scientific equipment delivers a 98% positive result.

So how do we know the accuracy of the testing & reporting? Cities are being locked down based on the number of positive covid tests, and people are losing their jobs due to businesses & schools closing. Kids are losing valuable education time.

Then they got tested after the four days, still ran around, still had the restaurants open, instead of closing down and quarantining, then after the second tests came back positive, did they close all the restaurants, this as one of the group got very I’ll.

While I am unable to help you with the lobe thingy you might be happy to know that they have made great headway with lung replacements. A rural doctor friend of mine in Oki, Oklahoma has done several lung replacements using Zip Lock bags and a zip ties. The good news is that with a little practice you can do this at home using basic silverware as removal and replacement tools. As someone who has long suffered from malignant mesothelioma I am thinking of doing this procedure on myself during the halftime of todays Patriots game.
And just to make the experience seem more authentic I am going to send myself a bill for $150,000 and argue with myself to get the price down.
