WHEN AND WHY DID ELECTION DAY BECOME AMERIC’S SECOND CIVIL WAR?

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY NOV. 2, 2020) The best comment by a reader of THE PLANET during this entire election cycle came as the first on The Weekend Edition a couple days ago. My friend Jerry Packard wrote: “Folks, it’s time for us to come together. What our foreign enemies want is for us to dislike and mistrust each other, and to distrust our democratic political process. We need to take a deep breath and press on, and try to trust our system and our fellow citizens.”

Jerry’s correct. Coming together is  what we need.

O that it could be so.

The problem is how? And when? What cause will unite us? An invasion from space? If a pandemic couldn’t do it, what can? We’re talking about the human heart and the decisions people make for their lives. How do you affect change for the better in the human heart? How do you square the circle?

Idealists, theorists, dreamers, therapists, priests, and prophets have offered us prescriptions, but it reduces to our personal decisions. For a set of byzantine reasons, The United States of America is fighting its second civil war. Why else would stores, businesses, and offices in Boston boarding their windows in anticipation of violence tomorrow?

Election Day America goes to the polls, and what used to be an act of empowerment — the vote! — has become a weapon with which to inflict damage on ourselves. Gone are the days when you voted then accepted the results. When your guy didn’t win, you shrugged then drilled into the fact that we elect a president of the United States, not the president of a political party.

The new guy would be your president, agree or not, and as a matter of civic duty — civil conscience, actually — you accepted that. Today, you become outraged and offended. You wail and gnash your teeth. You toss pragmatism and install petulance. Then, if you’re young and jobless, you take to the streets in “peaceful protest” to torch, destroy, and loot.

Many have asked THE PLANET to “call” the election tomorrow. The likely outcome 11:01 p.m. EST, when the polls on the West Coast close, will be chaos.  The polls provide an indication of a tight outcome: most results are well within the margin or error. In other words, you would do just as well to flip a coin.

Add to that the nearly 100 million mail-in ballots and the differing rules that states have in counting them. Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan don’t begin counting them until Election Day, setting off the likelihood of legal challenges and delays. We’ve never had this problem in the history of presidential elections.  We’re in new territory, folks.

The Wall Street Journal reports that in the 13 most competitive states, 28% of those ballots have not been returned (7 million out of 28 million ballots. These states include Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Texas. More troubling is that in many of these states, the number of unreturned ballots  exceeds the winner’s margin of victory in 2016. Think about it.

  • Working for Trump: The 33.1% rise in 3Q GNP, the highest quarterly gain in U.S. history. Also factor in the “shy Trump vote” — Trump supporters who do not respond to polls, who are afraid to publicly support their candidate because of retaliation, and who will do their speaking at the polls. He’s still the Washington outsider. In fact, Trump is not inside of anything. True, it’s an acquired taste but one admired by more people than you think.
  • Working against Trump: Unlike 2016, he is no longer an unknown quantity. People were more inclined to take a chance on a non-politician. There is a dose of Trump Fatigue in America. His outrageous claims, often unsupported by the facts.
  • Working for Biden: He’s not Trump. That’s worth something. He’s perceived as a centrist. The Obama-ists like him. He has a better “likability” rating than his opponent. He’s a Syracuse guy (THE PLANET had to get that one in)
  • Working against Biden: age and cognition issues, his son Hunter and the “laptop from hell, and his running mate. Kamala Harris is too extreme. Democrats forget that extreme doesn’t play in the hinterlands. Biden should have chosen Amy Klubochar.

If you need key indicator states, watch Florida and Pennsylvania. Win both, and you win the election.

Also watch Minnesota. No Republican has won there since Richard Nixon in 1972. If Trump wins there, it’s over.

———- ooo ———-

We don’t like calling attention to our preternatural gift of accuracy in these matters, but to quiet the badgering crowd, we shall acquiesce to the Colleens and Darrens our there and offer a look into the crystal ball. Keep in mind two things — (1) This is not an endorsement but a clinical, clean-room, emotionless prediction and (2) THE PLANET doesn’t run with the herd:

THE PLANET predicts Trump in an electoral landslide, 312-226 (2016 Trump’s 306 to Clinton’s 226). We could write prose-poems for this against-the grain prognostication. We won’t. The race was all Trump, especially early on, after the Democrats’ debacle in the Iowa primary. The COVID-19 came, and everything shut down. Biden’s four-corner offense, his Rope-A-Dope, looked good.

As recently as two weeks ago, 10 days ago, we would have given the race to Biden. His to lose. But we see Trump putting on a Roger Bannister-type “kick” to the wire. Remember, we elect not on popular vote but electorally.

Unfortunately.

Jerry Packard’s dream is our dream, a common vision forged in childhood in the truth of innocence, in a time when ethics and morality were as clear as the wax on a pack-fresh Topps baseball card.

It seems beyond this country’s soul.

Oh that it were not so.

Come Wednesday morning, the most likely outcome is that we will not know who will be President 46.

I have a job thanks to President Trump because he created a booming economy and it even spread to the Berkshires which is no small feat in the jobless wasteland of Berkshire County. The Obama years were a disaster for finding a job and the socialists will want many people dependent on big government in a Biden/Harris administration. The list is endless of the accomplishments of President Trump, but for me personally it’s about employment.

I highly doubt Trump voters will vote a split ticket, but some moderate Biden voters might do that. We have a moderate Republican running in Mass for Senate against AOC’s mentor Markey.

I agree. We should all unite after the 2020 presidential election. E Pluribus Unum: In Many One. We have one U.S. President. We should all support our U.S. President, even if we dislike the man (or woman) who occupies the Oval Office.
I disagree with blogger Dan Valenti on the U.S. economy. Wall Street is doing well, but Main Street is losing badly. The U.S. national debt is over $27 trillion, and last fiscal year’s record setting federal budget deficit was $3.1 trillion. In short, the rich are getting a lot richer, while the common people are getting a lot poorer. It is tough out there!

Wow Dan,you got big chulankuhs. I once lost a dinner at the Highland to you. Never again. And Dan you’re Smart, because Trump no can be unpopular all day but you gotta think he has a good shot electorally,,and that’s where it counts. I just wish Trump would bind us together like Jerry stated.

It is make America Great Again, isn’t it? Not half of America. The other thing I like is we don’t depend on anyone, but then again we don’t depend on one another either. I just don’t want to be a damn socialist, that doesn’t mean stop ssi,(and Trump has said he would touch that) Welfare, that’s another story.

Our Military is strong also. We don’t need N A T O so far it’s been proven. We don’t need to be blackmailed by Iran either.

Gas price are low and I haven’t heard a peep about I S I S. Social Security has seen increases. The man does have Energy. I’ve talked to people from Texas and Florida and asked the Texas voter if he’ll win a Texas, response of one of them…All Day. The Florida voter, just one just said simply we love Him.

Now I’m Pennsylvania that fracking comment will cost Sleepy Joe,how much we’ll see. But I agree with my friend Dan and other son here. Prediction….Four More Years.

Short and simple answer is 4 years ago, after 8 years of division by our great “uniter” who started and perpetuated the war on cops, then supported a clandestine operation to thwart Trump and democracy. Peace and police is the answer you stupid democrat morons, not “protests” and plywood!

Again, whatever you are blaming on President Trump is what the far left is trying to do. It’s not President Trump trying to mess around with the election process, it’s the far left consisting of the squad, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Biden/Harris and most of the left. From getting rid of the electoral college, adding states, mail-in ballots and their push for one party rule. The want to reimagine our election process to give themselves a win at the ballot box every time.

Can anyone confirm what I’m hearing. Two Saturday’s ago, October 24th, there was a birthday party at Mazzeo’s. Three people at the party had Covid and didn’t know it yet. Other got infected, staff were exposed. This is where the majority of new Covid cases are coming from. Then they went to Yuki’s bar, which was over crowded. Talk about super spreader events. Both places should be shut down for two weeks and the workers should have to quarantine.

I stated earlier that the problem is that the two sides do not agree on the ends, as used to be the case in US politics.

I go back to the basic Locke/pro-US Constitution (right-ish) vs. Marx/anti-US Constitution (left-ish) (broadly stated) division.

We don’t have the same ends and purposes and so can’t even come up with the same terms to the means for human flourishing (to use the latest scholarly parlance).

I mean, if the Girl Scouts can’t congratulate ACB . . . W . . . T . . . F?

Thus, I see no way out of the donnybrook.

The left (to their credit) have found a way to weaponize the vote. A vote for Trump is racist, homophobic, and the equivalent of voting for Satan. Hell, this isn’t even the weirdos anymore saying this, it has spread to friends of mine. Look on your social media pages, I have seen a number of people sharing memes, asking for people voting for Trump to unfriend/unfollow, etc.

How have they weaponized the vote? If you live in a city ravaged from the BLM/Antifa crowd, you know a vote for Trump could lead to more chaos in those communities. I think a lot of centrists and middle class Americans think “at least if I vote for Biden and he wins, I don’t have to deal with the crazy looters anymore.”

Also, where have all of the cyclists been on North St? I thought since we put in a bike lane I would see more and more of them.

I’m being conservative – I think Biden will do better.

I’d take $5 bets if I knew I could easily collect.

I agree that it will be a post-hoc mess no matter who wins.

Apropos of Dan’s comment on an invasion from space, back in 1973 when I was a U-Mass freshman in a Poli-sci class, the prof (Lewy) was lamenting on the warring international factions, so I raised my hand and said: ‘the only thing we need is a common enemy, and we’ll pull together.’ The prof responded by laughing cynically and saying: ‘Oh, and I suppose you believe that will happen when we are attacked by Martians!’

He will not accept a Biden victory and neither will any of his cult followers. They are already geared up to rise up. Signs already in the back of the truck with the guns.

Fake hate crime. They learned from GB don’t fake an injury, fake a letter. Don’t put it in an envelope because it would have dna if you licked it.
Don’t hand write it print it, use medical gloves because they common now.
Find it and immediately and “heroically” share it with the press. Make it include hate speech that addresses all your different personal identities.

On Thursday afternoon, a staff member of the College received a hate letter at their home. The letter communicated an explicit threat of violence, as well as racist and anti-LGBTQIA language, and targeted the racial identity, gender identity and sexual orientation of the staff member in graphic terms.

The recipient of the hate letter has chosen to anonymously share their story in hopes of contextualizing the events. It doesn’t even matter anymore if you get caught, the DA won’t do a thing.

On Friday, President Maud S. Mandel and Vice President for Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leticia S. E. Haynes ’99 sent an all-college email describing the incident while protecting the individual’s anonymity. Since then, the Williamstown Police Department (WPD) launched an investigation into the incident and is working to protect the individual’s safety. The College also launched its own investigation and is taking additional steps to protect its staff and students, according to Mandel.

The individual originally found the letter on Thursday afternoon in their mailbox, tucked into a newspaper and without an envelope. After taking a moment to gather themselves, the individual informed Haynes; Bilal Ansari, Assistant Vice President for Campus Engagement in the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Toya Camacho, Assistant Vice President and Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

“I’m lying if I say I’m not anxious and I’m not nervous and … really questioning what it means to be safe here in Williamstown,” the individual said. “I’ve been Black and queer my whole life, so those questions are questions that I grapple with every day, but I’m grappling with them now more than ever.”

We all know this was a story in hopes of being picked up by the main stream media and or going viral.
It has all the makings of hoax.
Nobody cares about a queer person of color in Williamstown, you can’t throw a rock and not hit some new version of gender or new self identity in Williamstown. No racist is going to randomly seek out and place a letter in a mailbox. Only someone faking it we would think that’s the way to do it.
It removes all identifying information no dna, no fingerprints, it goes after a persons made up sexual orientation or gender and their race.
Since the DA failed to prosecute the last hoax, what are they going to do now? Actually start doing their jobs?
Sources say this is an employment issue. What better way to deflect from poor job performance than planting a fake letter.

Tucker had an interesting angle Monday night: COVID the top issue for many–but FOR Trump. People know that Don Giuseppe means more lockdowns, more restrictions, more unemployment, more closings, more bankruptcies.

But I’m not sure. I’ve said that if Biden wins, COVID will go away, all will be well.

The Dims will want the economy to come back. After all, what are they going to tax? And they’ll want to take the credit for the recovery from the malaise caused by the big bad Orange Man.

Those people supposedly stranded at a Trump rally.

Dims take one thing and blow it up and harp on it, with metaphors even. Tune in to CNN/MSNBC and what are they talking about? The latest bitch. That’s all they got. ALL.

How many were there? I’d bet it exceeds any crowd Joke has gotten all campaign.

And consider what it takes for people just to get to these Trump rallies.

Your BS is getting old. The testing is done by quest diagnostics as per the protocols of BMC, BHS, and the DPH. My point here is the people running the show are lying to you about how many people are sick.
Testing at BMC and via BHS is symptomatic or work requirement or inpatient or outpatient treatment.
Everyone of the positives was a symptomatic patient. Last week 7 were scheduled treatment but symptomatic.
I don’t care how many people recover, what the survival rate is. What’s at issue is that they are lying about the numbers and not doing proper tracing and it will lead to another lockdown.

Otherwise, I hope you didn’t get hurt falling off the turnip truck.

This is what “journalists” do, yo. I’ve been saying this in here for as long as I’ve been in here.

This is what “journalism” is.

These people wake up every morning as say, “How can I make a Republican look bad? How can I make a Democrat look good? Or at least not look too bad, or bury it on page 14.”

It is the very essence of the J-School curriculum.

Semester One: How to attack Republicans.
Semester Two: How to attack Conservatives.

Electives: Sucking up to Democrats 101, Sucking up to Democrats 102.

Prerequisites for J-School–1. Thoroughly indoctrinated in leftist ideology; 2. Can’t get into a good law school or have no interest in it.

Massachusetts surpassed 10,000 Covid 19 deaths today (Sunday, 1 November 2020). The Holyoke Soldiers Home (debacle) is shutdown to visitors who care about their Veterans family members. Beacon Hill has yet to pass a state budget. The Massachusetts State Legislators have gotten nothing done in over 3 months. All they care about is getting reelected and receiving all of their pay, benefits, and compensation paid for by the taxpayers they have failed. Cities and Towns are waiting in fear of cuts in state funding to local governments and their public school districts. Governor Charlie Baker is hoping for a cabinet position in a would be Joe Biden administration. Beacon Hill has been operating behind closed doors because they won’t hold formal legislative sessions, which means the public has no idea what is going on in Boston other than Massachusetts’ state government is facing a multi-billion-dollar state budget deficit. In closing, the people of Massachusetts are getting the proverbial royal screwing over by the likes of career politicians such as Smitty Pignatelli, Adam Hinds, and so on.

Did not feel confident at all after voting at Somerset Voting Station this morning. One guy screwed up his ballot two times and was given a third ballot, what happens to the other two? Another worker had to be reminded twice to cross off voter’s name. Workers were having trouble hearing street names because the fire truck was running. They couldn’t move this voting station to Allendale School? Another guy’s name was not on the list so they just gave him a ballot? Another woman’s ballot was not being accepted by the machine and workers did not know why? Voters in line were just shaking their heads in disgust. Is this just another Pittsfield screwed up election?

Agree, Merry. I voted at Williams School at 7 am. 15 people in line. Placing ballot into machine was holding up the line, as ballot needed to be inserted 3x before machine would accept it. That happened to me and the people in front of me. One woman checked in at desk, her name indicated she had voted, she was taken to another checkin table & given a ballot. I wasn’t able to hear that discussion so I don’t know the details.
Good news is there was not a poll sitter with a duplicate voter roll checking off names, as in the past mayoral election.

What happens when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object? We’re about to find out. Project Veritas is 7-0 in court battles during its 10 year history. The New York Times has not lost a defamation suit in over 50 years. The two are now set to square off, as James O’Keefe and Project Veritas officially filed their lawsuit against the legacy New York Times on Friday.

O’Keefe and co. sent a letter to the New York Times a few weeks ago demanding several retractions. The newspaper refused to make the corrections, and said they stand by their reporting.
“This is absolute hogwash, dishonest and libelous,” exclaims O’Keefe in a video he made about the suit, after vowing “We are not going to forget the transgressions against us.”

Pittsfield isn’t even on the radar. Read the article, that’s why it’s posted.
I don’t live in Westfield and never claimed to.
