iBERKSHIRES’ ILLITERATE STORY ONLY TOO TYPICAL FOR LOCAL LAME-STREAM JOURNALISM

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION APRIL 9-11, 2021) — Outgoing Ward 4 councilor Chris Connell posted this remark with respect to THE PLANET‘s previous column, one that provided fractured snapshots of the ocean’s eleven that make up, and we do mean ‘make up,’ the city council:
Thank you Dan for the kind words. I always tried to do my best for the residents and the city. I certainly will miss many of the residents especially those that I now call my friends. Thank you also for being a responsible journalist and media source. Only yourself, Mike Daly and Jonathan Levine report the truth regardless of the issue. The three of you are fair to both sides and always give both a chance to comment.
The comment about local media is the one that stands out.
If one depends on lame-stream local media, one gets propaganda, puffery, and PR of the kind that The Boring Broadsheet and iBerkshires shill for the powers that be. They do it so as to not rock the boat and appease advertisers.
We don’t know Mike Daly’s product, except it being some kind of online podcast, but we do know the heroic battle Jonathan Levine has waged since 1991 to keep The Pittsfield Gazette afloat. THE PLANET gives thanks there are at least these two alternate voices. There is indeed a hunger and thirst for aggressive reporting and commentary, and it is astounding the level of fear that must grip the mainstream media that they would not pursue this sure revenue booster.
It’s bad enough that the The BB and iBerkshires are bad enough, but to be inflicted daily with botched headlines, chopped copy, typos, bad grammar, and poor writing makes the puffery all the more egregious — awful in an extraordinary way.
Example, an iBerkshires story that ran Thursday, April 8, bylined by Brittany Polito.
The head reads: “Pittsfield Police Chief Wynn Bring ‘Unique’ Background to State Policing Commission.”
This is a subject- (singular) -verb (plural) agreement problem just slightly above the Dick and Jane Reader. No one at iBerkshires caught it.
Polito has this quote from Wynn: “That’s been an in-service topic for several years, we had already incorporated specialized training, dealing with people in crisis and mental illness.”
Guess comma splices must be considered grammatical there.
The article contains no actual reporting, only a series of fan-club sighs and glowing quotations, such as this show-stopper:
“When asked if Pittsfield Police were committed to the process of engaging in the hard work of building an equitable society at a June rally for Black Lives Matter, his simple answer was ‘yes.””
Stop the presses, already.
This kind of journalistic insult continues daily.
THE PLANET could continue ad infinitum, ad nauseam with this autopsy, but we rest our case. It’s probably why our numbers continue to grow while The BB and iBerkshires are tanking.

Chris Connell fought the good fight during his time in Pittsfield politics. He ran against career politician Tricia Farley Bouvier for State Representative. He stood up against the Lovely Linda Tyer’s record setting municipal budgets – high taxes and fees, and huge public debts and other hidden liabilities. He took on the corrupt political establishment for Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski. But in the end, Chris Connell was unable to change public business as usual in Pittsfield politics. He realized that he was fighting windmills instead of stopping the Pittsfield political machine. The ugly truth is that no one can change Pittsfield politics!
At least he tried, and it actually could be changed and you don’t even need a compliant council, you simply need a budget conscious, citizen minded mayor. The clowncil can cut the budget, but cannot add to it.
Do we really expect fiscal responsibility now with Biden and the far left in control? The amount of money being spent at the federal level is outrageous and the far left will just spend the country into disaster because they want to get rid of capitalism and that includes getting rid of the dollar. All of this is intentional.
You mean that if we actually had a fiscally responsible mayor we could cut the budget like 10 percent and not raise property taxes for years, and close needless schools, and have clean parks? Tell me that it’s true.
It isn’t a black and white win or lose. Did he ultimately change anything city wide? Not really, but he brought it every council meeting and ruffled a lot of feathers. Debate, discussion, and passion are something that should be a part of city council. Instead we have a bunch of people who are just interested in keeping the meeting moving forward and saying “I” to everything. Watch how long the meetings go when Connell & Morandi are off the council.
I lived in 4 for many years before moving and Chris always got right back to you with any concerns brought to him. He took the job seriously and you could tell genuinely cared. 4 is going to miss him desperately.
In my opinion, Chris brought attention to the fine print on issues that would have flown under the radar. If not for his tenacity in bringing up things that others just wanted to rubber stamp, he was attacked for it. Chris may not have been able to change much around here, but he made citizens more aware of why change is needed.

Well said, each. As a ward councilor, being continually on the short end of 2-9 votes greatly limits one’s ability for substantive change. In that circumstance, the councilor can best serve by providing directly and prompt constituent service and, equally important, ensure that issues receive proper attention during discussion and debate. Connell did both at a high level.
I agree. Chris Connell did bring change on the micromanagement level. I wish he was able to bring real change to business as usual in Pittsfield politics that always, always, always….screws over Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski. But like I said before, it is impossible in Palookaville!

The relationship between city hall and The BB are suffocatingly close. Look at the paper’s recent history: The reporters who showed initiative and actually COVERED stories instead of serve as media for puffery were either fired or took initiative and realized that their own careers would be better served elsewhere: Jack Dew, Connor Berry, Andy Amelnyx, Jenn Smith and more.
People less than 40 years old don’t remember what a quality paper The Berkshire Eagle used to be.
The paper actually had reporters that covered local news and were not beholding to the management nor local connected people/politicians. The decline was steep as falling off a cliff when the Millers left.
Much like national alphabet news outlets, what is left is biased one sided “reporting”, or ignoring news that does not fit the agendas and spins they approve of.
Journalism/Journalists is/are becoming an endangered species facing extinction.

There is that dangerous word “equitable” in the article about Chief Wynn. That they want to create an equitable society. The grammar is frightening, but what they actually want to do is horrific. The far left progressives don’t want equality, but equity which means big government decides what is fair. Big government picks the winners and the losers based on gender, race, and sexual orientation.
Equitable in Pittsfield really means ECONOMIC INEQUALITY because there are little to no living wage jobs for the average working class family in Pittsfield!

First of all let us pray for the tragic death of the infant that happened months ago in Adams, D A Harrington had the couple arraigned in Superior Court yesterday I believe. Please don’t rush to judgement on this. Let it play out. But clearly there is something seriously wrong about this situation.

She should stick to press releases; they get the information on cases to the public without sensationalism.

Graffiti messages that included phrases like “white power” and “let’s kill all N*****s on campus” and that sparked days of protest at Albion College in Michigan were actually written by a black student, MLive reported.
On April 5, students from the college started tweeting about the dozen-or-so “racist incidents” that had occurred the previous week, referring to the messages. As The Post Millennial reported, a since-deleted tweet from one student included photos of the graffiti, calling the messages “blatant racism.”
The messages included phrases such as “white lives matter”, “666” atop a Star of David, and references to the Klu Klux Klan, among others. Discovery of the messages prompted days of protests from students, who boycotted classes in the name of racial justice.
On April 6, after reviewing campus security footage, a 21-year-old black male student was brought in for questioning by the Albion Department of Public Safety. The student reportedly admitted to writing most of the graffiti, with the surveillance footage supporting his statements. Police Chief Scott Kipp told MLive that the student was released after questioning and that after the department has completed its investigation, the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office will determine if any charges should be filed related to the incident. Charges are unlikely in such a case, as fears of being called racist abound even when a student has committed a hate crime hoax.

New York Will Offer One-Time Payments of Up to $15,600 to Illegal Aliens Who Lost Work During Pandemic
The state of New York is funding a program that will pay up to $15,600 to illegal aliens who lost their jobs during the pandemic.
They will be required to prove they are residents of New York and that they lost their jobs due to the pandemic. But, what if they do not have proof of that? Well, they will still get $3,200 from the state.
If I lived in New York I would be outraged that their elected officials placing illegal aliens above American citizens.
New York has created a $2.1 billion dollar fund from which the money will be paid from. The money was allocated as part of the new $212 billion dollar budget for New York.
This is government for the illegals, by the illegals, and for the illegals. New York has an estimated 750,000 illegal aliens although that number could increase as they apply for the cash.

Police found an unresponsive male lying on the ground on the west side of the parking structure. The aid of the Pittsfield Fire Department and Action Ambulance was immediately sought.
The victim, a 30-year-old resident of Pittsfield, was transported to Berkshire Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The incident continues to be under investigation by the Pittsfield Police Detective Unit.
State health officials urge anyone who is thinking about suicide, or who knows someone who is, to call one of the 24-hour crisis hotline numbers right away.
From the PPD: “On April 10, 2021 at approximately 0810 hours, the Pittsfield Police Dept responded to the McKay St parking deck for a wellbeing check on a male party. Upon units arriving to the parking deck, an unresponsive male was observed lying on the ground on the west side of the parking deck. The assistance of PFD as well as Action Ambulance was immediately requested. This party, a 30 year old resident of Pittsfield, was transported to BMC by Action Ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. This incident continues to be under investigation by members of the Pittsfield Police Detective Unit.”

The whole foster care system across the country is bad, but some areas are worse than others. Children are routinely taken from their biological parents, often for the most ridiculous reasons and parents can’t get them back. That’s what happened to Victoria Rose Smith of South Carolina who was put into foster care and brutally beaten on a regular basis by her foster parents, especially the foster mother. Victoria was so adorable and sweet and what happened to her is just pure evil and it wouldn’t have happened if she had remained with her biological mother who was not abusive.

The situation involving the Tuckers is a horror story. Charges weren’t brought until after a grand jury looked at it. That adds a level of gravitas to the charges. That poor infant, suffering for two weeks apparently without the foster parent seeking competent, professional, medical help. The DA says antibiotics would have saved the child’s life. There’s every reason at this point to believe in that account, the presumption of innocence present, of course, but notwithstanding. If they are found guilty, they deserve the full 20 years.
The parents either didn’t report the illness, didn’t treat the illness, or didn’t seek the dcf’s help. If they did , report it this is on dcf. I think both sides are guilty.

That is sometimes the case, of course, but more often, it isn’t. My gut tells me that there’s solid evidence, enough for the grand jury to indict and enough for the D.A. to try with confidence of conviction.

What doctor would carry out the orders of Brigham & Young Women’s Hospital to put one race above another when it comes to healthcare? A doctor who wants to keep his job? What this Boston hospital is doing and wants to spread across the country is unethical. I was reading comments on this decision and many doctors are saying they are so frustrated with race and politics being forced into medical care. They begged to explore the use of many different therapeutics during the pandemic, but say they were discouraged from their superiors from doing so. This is what I have suspected too that our elderly didn’t have to die so horribly from COVID, but could have been helped, but even the medical system has been infiltrated by far left politics.
Hospital Administrators are only interested in lining their pockets with loot and don’t give a rat’s rectum about healthcare.
These orders of “do nothing” but the most basic like using useless steroids to help the elderly with COVID was passed down from the very Democratic CDC to hospital administrators across the country who are “useful idiots” who will carry out the unethical orders of their masters with no questions asked. Steroids may be useful for younger patients, but cause more harm than good for many of the elderly.

I have not received my shot yet and the longer it takes me to get an appointment for the COVID vaccine, the more I keep wondering if it’s necessary for every American to get it. Shouldn’t herd immunity kick in at some point as more people are vaccinated? I probably will end up getting it though.

Really if these folks are so experienced, they should be able to sense it when a child in their care requires medical care. Fever is outwardly apparent, lethargy, etc, appetite …..
