FED PT. 2: LOW INTEREST RATES + GREED = A DEADLY COMBINATION

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

Second of Two Parts

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY JAN. 5, 2022) — Low interest rates. Sounds good, until you look at the harm inflicted.

Modern economies exist because money moves around. THE PLANET gets that. What we don’t get, and perhaps it’s because we grew up around people who remembered and lived through the Depression of the 1930s, is reckless borrowing — fashioning a life and a lifestyle on money you don’t have.

From bankrate.com: While credit has increased Americans’ purchasing power — helping them buy homes, cars and other goods — it’s also normalized debt across the U.S.

As of September 2021, consumer debt is at $14.96 trillion, with the average American debt among consumers at $92,727.

The overall debt figure includes credit card balances, student loans, mortgages and more. Here’s a closer look at debt across the U.S. by type of account using data from Experian’s 2020 Consumer Credit Review.

Snapshot of consumer debt

Type of debt Average debt in 2020
Credit card $5,315
Personal loan $16,458
Auto loan $19,703
Student loan $38,792
HELOC $41,954
Mortgage $208,185

———- ooo ———-

Low interest rates and newly printed cash combine to create a fatal poison similar to heroin. Ingesting or injecting the stuff creates a blissful but temporary euphoria that lasts only until the next hit. Then the next. Then the one after that. Pretty soon, you’re chasing the high, needing more and more junk just to feel “normal.” At that point, you’re hooked, which is where America is, financially.

Yes, the U.S. is still the #1 world economy, but China has all but closed that gap. By some measures, China has overtaken us. Within five years, China will be in across-the-board first place, if it’s not already. The Chinese approach to economics deserves an entire series on THE PLANET. Under the expert leadership of Xi Jinping, China has combined the best of capitalism (free enterprise) and communism (social security), allowing all forms of capital to equally compete in the financial markets. Clearly, this is not your grandfather’s China.

———- ooo ———-

Low interest rates encourage foolhardy borrowing. If you borrow money at, say, 2% and invest in an asset that brings in a 20% profit after you flip it, you make 18%. In the 2000s, homeowners could resist their greed. They saw a house not as a domicile but as a rising asset and “sure thing” investment, purchased not to put down roots but to keep for two or three years then sell at an inflated price. And, voila!, the next thing you know “ol Jed’s a millionaire.”

Except there’s no such thing as a “sure thing.”

Asset bubbles are great but have just one drawback: they burst. We all know what happened in 2008. Greedy speculators, disguised as homeowners, claimed they didn’t understand the terms when they borrowed for a house. They were “victims, you see.” Under Obama, with the welfare state building up serious steam, few thought to ask these money lovers, “Well, why did you sign the frick’n contract if you didn’t understand it?” They understood greed, though.

So did the investment bankers, who found new ways to bundle debt to create “products” that relied on the assumption that prices would keep going up.

———- ooo ———-

Money always “looks for a place to go.” Flood the market with too much new cash, and you have inflation, the gleeful assumption of cheap debt, and the expectation of reaping huge profits. Banks love lending low-interest money because it sees collateral as an asset also rising in value. This leads to far too many risky loans made to people and entities that can’t afford them and aren’t sustainable in realistic financial conditions. They borrow but then can’t pay back. That’s when politicians and officials find the Kapanskis useful. They’re the ones with the bailing buckets.

We can learn from the Fed’s action as the 1970s came to a close. It raised interest rates to 10% in 1979 and 20% in 1980. The moves successfully fought asset and price inflation.

However, don’t count on such courageous action today. The Tom Hoenigs and Chuck Trzcinkas of the economic and political world come along far too infrequently. They’re the ones on the short end of the 11-1 votes, or in the case of Pittsfield automaton city council, the 10-1 and 9-2 votes.

As for Sen. Granny Elizabeth Warren, who has never once voted to reel in government spending, well, she’s proven more of a space shot than the entrepreneurial Elon Musk, a brilliant entrepreneur who has actually succeeded in literal space shots.

Excuse us now. THE PLANET is going out back to start our bonfire of vanity. We shall be burning our piles of cash.

That’s how much we’ve come to loath this fiat currency.

Joe Biden’s spending tens of trillions of federal dollars is unheard of. PAC Man Richie Neal won’t raise federal revenues to pay for Biden’s Bucks. After 9/11/2001, Bush 2 and Dick Cheney cut federal taxes 3 times, and they used “The War on Terrorism” to borrow trillions of federal dollars to pay for the Military Industrial Complex, which was called “Guns and Butter” economics. Obama inherited the worst economic recession of 2008 since the Great Depression in the 1930s, and like Bush 2, Obama bailed out Wall Street’s casino-like financial shell games with trillions of federal dollars. Foreign banks in Europe and Asia who did business on Wall Street even received bailouts from the Swamp back then. Then Donald Trump signed the single largest federal tax cut in U.S. history, and he added nearly $8 trillion to the U.S. National Debt during his 4 years as U.S. President. Then, Joe Biden signed and wants to sign the single largest federal spending bill(s) in U.S. history. No matter what happens in the real economy, the financial system operates in a rigged “Heads the Haves win, Tails the Haves still win while millions upon millions of American families lose” financial shell game. Critics say that the real Capitol Hill is on K Street whereby corporate lobbyists legally bribes corrupt career politicians such as PAC Man Richie Neal in the Swamp. I think of it as a rectangle where the Federal Reserve gives the Swamp trillions of dollars who gives most of it to Wall Street who gives part of it to Foreign Banks in Europe and Asia. The problem with the financial shell game “rectangle” is that none of it goes to the people the Government is supposed to serve, which guarantees that “The Rich always get richer, and the Poor always gets poorer”. To be clear, the Ruling Elites, the Financial Elites and the Corporate Elites receive all of the income gains, while the rest of us feel lucky to cut even and save a few dollars, while the huge underclass always grows larger as the years go by. GREED = ELITES!

True dat. Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky turned the Oval Office into the Oral Orifice. Bill Clinton had 26 flight log entries on Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet. Bill Clinton deregulated Wall Street, which led to casino-like institutional investment banks melting down the financial system in 2008. Bush 2 got all of the blame when PAC Man Richie Neal and his corporate Dems in the Swamp were cashing in with K Street Lobbyist Firms. To be fair, Bush 2 openly said that the financial and corporate elites were his base, which means that he gave away the proverbial store to Wall Street. Lastly, both the Republican and Democratic Party leaders in the Swamp voted for bailing out Wall Street and foreign banks in Europe and Asia, which was outrageous!

Fritz,
Read Marcuse’s essay on “Tolerance” in action, the blueprint for the Democrats who talk about “democracy” while meaning communism. You cannot begin to fight this frightening ideology without reading Marcuse and substituting “communism” for “democracy” every time he mentions it. You’ll also pick up the strategies the communists are using to subvert the values of the founding fathers by use of linguistic violence, a strategy to demand belief in the supranatural, that men can be women and all that associated
nonsense.

Speaking of China. The Chinese government is not restricted by rules or even public opinion. And less and less are they caring about International opinion. If they want to build a 500 mile high speed train or highway they just do it. There are no legal landowner or environmental challenges to hold them back. Their infrastructure is second to none. Their military is second to none. Their economy is fast becoming second to none.
Within the next five years they will not only be a world power, they will be the ONLY world power. They are already dictating how things are going to be on the world stage. A new world order is on the horizon and there seems little that can stop it. Certainly not divided and upside down America who is fast headed for third world status.

Kevin Morandi is sucking on the taxpayer’s teat. The former councilor pays around $3,600 for real estate taxes. He sends his kid to Lee Public schools, costing taxpayers over $5,000 a year. On top of that, he now gets health insurance for life, costing taxpayers over $17,000 a year.

He used to claim that rising taxes drove people out. Costing your neighbors over $18,400 a year is part of the problem.

I wish he would move to Lee where he works and his kid goes to school. Then the cost would at least drop by $1,400.

He tells us to look over here while he is raping us behind our backs. What a con artist.

Did you check to see what schools city councilor kids go to? How about all the Pittsfield school teachers kids? How about the Mercer employees or school committee? How about the rest of the city employees kids? What parent who loved their child would send them to Pittsfield schools if they had an option? All that says is that he loves his kid and wants him or her to have a decent education. I admire him for that just like I admire all the school administration parents who send their kids elsewhere. Pretty much a no brainer.

The Pittsfield cop, the extremely intoxicated woman was drinking with, and another Pittsfield cop made the decision not to test the blood alcohol level of the extremely intoxicated woman who was so inebriated she couldn’t stand up on her own, didn’t know her own name, didn’t know where she was, or where she’s lives. So, what we have is the integrity of Pittsfield cops, one of whom was drinking with the extremely intoxicated female drunk, habitual offender PepePuki, and the Licensing Board who so far has let Lucky METHBAR PepePuki on North get away with multiple violations. Including a shooting of an underage drinking patron in PepePuki’s METHBAR on NORTH. Why would anyone believe there’s a cover-up at PepePuki’s METHBAR.

What are Pittsfield’s proverbial Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski paying for in Pittsfield politics?:
* Level 5 inner city public schools
* Pittsfield always being in the top 10 cities in Massachusetts for violent crime, according to the FBI
* North Street sarcastically called “Social Services Alley”
* The neighborhoods that surround North Street sarcastically called “The Ring of Poverty”
* Record high municipal budgets that always increase municipal spending by 5 percent per fiscal year going back decades
* Record high municipal fees
* Tens of millions of dollars in municipal debts and hundreds of millions of dollars in other municipal liabilities
* The 23-year-old PEDA debacle with millions of dollars in growing liabilities
* Beacon Hill systemically underfunding Pittsfield’s city government and failing public school district
* The Swamp spending trillions of federal dollars that never seems to help out the post-industrial American Rust Belt, including post-GE Pittsfield
* An aging public infrastructure, 50 years of population loss, 50 years of losses of living wage jobs, and severe economic inequality in a distressed economy with the sitting Mayor, Linda Tyer, living in a mansion in a millionaires-only Gated Community within a few feet of the Hancock border
* The Good Old Boys and former WHEN Ladies who only enriched themselves and their cronies at the public trough
* Matt Kerwood’s Creative Accounting schemes and municipal financial shell games
In conclusion, the proverbial Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski should just get it over with and sign their financial lives over to the Lovely Linda for lousy municipal services and Level 5 inner city public schools.

Speaking of money, the far left is doing another sneaky trick. With Build Back Better either on pause or dead, the far left will still get what they want which is spying on our bank accounts. They are giving new rules (unconstitutional?) for the IRS to spy on any transactions over $600.00 which is essentially spying on the bank accounts of all Americans. Meticulous records now need to be kept especially for small businesses or the IRS will accuse them of avoiding taxes. This will not end well.

Yah. Just because they set up a gallows and were looking to hang Mike Pence does not mean these were violent people. We hang somebody at every family picnic and its just part of the camaraderie.

Get informed, over 700 people arrested. Not one charged with insurrection or attempted murder. Only ones with weapons, were the undercover FBI and Antifa.

Marchetti has been authorized to shoot anyone speaking over 3 minutes in the public session of cc meetings. We don’t need no stinkin’ insurrection around here.

It will be a gathering of the ignorant and ill-informed, as anyone who has watched the actual Jan. 6th footage and listened to the audio can attest.

O course it’s done in the dark with participants in masks – so to make identification of those in attendance difficult, scheduled at a time when those who work for a living are headed home for the evening.

My guess is that the gathering will be composed of teachers who support closing the schools, and city officials/govt. workers. Will Linda be there with her bullhorn?

Maybe Dan’s Z-agents will get some close-up pics of the demonstrators. I want to see which teachers have no problem demonstrating but will not show up at school to teach my kids. I would also like to know what elected officials support this nonsense, so I can vote against them in the next election.

I wonder the time an date they will be protesting BLM, 7 months of rioting. There assault on 2,000 police officers, destruction of 150 Federal buildings. Not to mention 20 murders and billions in damages. That was not a threat to our democracy? Please stop the hypocrisy, moon bats.

Just imagine how upset BLM folk are going to be when it becomes clearer how their voting rights are being taken away. I think last summer will look like Mother Theresa’s birthday party compared to what is coming. The republicans must see this coming but are doing it anyway. Pretty scary stuff and I don’t want to be anywhere near it.

December is typically a big month for elected officials since contribution limits reset in the new year. Andrea Harrington’s support from our corner of the state, however, does not exist. Of the $8,126.88 raised by the DA in December from 25 contributors, zero is from Berkshire County. Zero.
Looking back over the previous 2 months one can see only 5 contributions from Berkshire County. The past month’s contributions are worthy of investigation. What reason could the CEO of Progress Software, a top Boston software company, have for contributing the maximum $1,000 to Andrea Harrington’s campaign? What about the Mayor of Somerville or a PAC out of Rochester NY, a city councilor from Boston or one of Boston’s top business lobbyists?
Before she was DA Andrea Harrington never earned more than a few thousand dollars as a lawyer, appeared in court no more than a half dozen times, mostly on OUIs. Now suddenly, after three years of very public mistakes and missteps and ethical violations anyone could unearth, Andrea Harrington is worthy of this financial support. Is anyone curious?
It appears Harrington has hired a Boston fundraiser listed in her expenses, who also serves as finance head for Maura Healey’s campaign. Most of the contributors to Harrington’s campaign also contributed to Healey’s.
Why does this matter?
We have a district attorney who has proven herself incapable of effectively prosecuting people charged with serious crimes. Like her self-described mentors, she has usurped the role of the legislative branch in proclaiming she will not prosecute or seek light sentences based on the ideology that racism is driving overincarceration. This is despite the lack proof of racial profiling by police and prosecutors in Berkshire County and in spite of the reality that there is less incarceration and more crime.
Harrington has abused her position multiple times that we know about including failing to abide by public records law, attempting to oust a judge and running a campaign from the office. She has denied the people competent representation by ousting most of the staff of attorneys with decades of experience replacing them with junior staff incapable of winning cases or seeking appropriate punishment.
With drug dealing and violence rampant, Harrington is now moving on to push for drug injection sites over holding people accountable for drugs.
Harrington routinely refuses to explain herself by speaking to media, instead blaming the media on her twitter feed for treating her unfairly because of her gender.
I doubt anyone is comfortable that this disaster of a district attorney is now being funded almost entirely by outsiders. Sadly, no one knows about it.

Didja ever wonder why you see contractors from way out of the area working on Pittsfield public projects? Like man if I do a favor for your guys perhaps you could find a way to reciprocate eh buddy? One hand is washing the other in a money laundering kind of way. A shell game if you will. Not what it looks like. Ever see a magician shuffle a deck of cards and then deal the ace of spades right off the top ten times in a row? Ever see pot become legal and then poof all kinds of politicians are getting rich?

I know…how about the grocery stores, restaurants, mills, and all the other businesses that remain open. Why can’t government places work through issues? Why can’t they think outside of the box or go back to a strong work ethic. Our founding fathers must be rolling in their graves.

I wish to publicly praise the Lovely Linda Tyer for supporting the Vigil for Democracy this evening of January 6th, 2022, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Park Square to protest the Donald Trump-led insurrection on Capitol Hill last year on January 6th, 2021. Mayor Linda Tyer shows great leadership by supporting the people of Pittsfield Massachusetts who are standing up against Trump’s HATE and for our American Democracy!

Hello Patrick Fennell,

I have let Mayor Linda Tyer know how I feel about Pittsfield’s violent crime problem, Level 5 public schools, overreliance on Social Services, teen pregnancies and high welfare caseloads, severe economic inequality, corrupt insider Pittsfield politics, the PEDA debacle with millions is debts, her administration’s secretive and expensive municipal finances, and so on. I am sure that she knows all of this much better than I do from my perch in Southern New Hampshire. In short, I let her know when I support her and when I disagree with her leadership in my native hometown of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. I don’t believe that Linda Tyer is all that bad, despite Pittsfield being in the proverbial ditch.

I will never support Donald Trump in politics because he is a Nazi who is that leader of the racist and evil alt-right White Nationalist political movement in the USA. Trump was wrong about Charlottesville Virginia. Trump was wrong about the January 6th, 2021, insurrection on Capitol Hill. Trump is wrong to disparage minority and underclass cities by pointing out their socioeconomic problems. I would much rather have Linda Tyer in the White House than Donald Trump!

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle

Biden gets some fire in the boiler over his rival Trump in his speech today, but can’t manage any concern or compassion for all the deaths in Afghanistan, the deaths from Fentanyl that he is pumping into the country, and the deaths caused by all the untested and unvaccinated he is pouring into the country everyday while criminalizing Americans who refuse a vaccine. Illegal immigrants are good to refuse a vaccine, but Americans are demonized. Hospitals are now using vaccinated health workers with COVID because they got rid of their healthy unvaccinated. These people are insane.

Pretty light turnout for Jan 6th demonstration at Park Square. I passed by there on my way home from work and there were maybe 25 radical leftist demonstrators huddled together, some with “Peace for Burma” signs!??

I think there would have been a much larger turnout if it had been billed as a FJB event, with pickup trucks flying their FJB flags, continually circling Park Square. Or marchers parading around with FJB sweatshirts & hats, waving FJB flags. Definitely more fun!
