PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY FEB. 2, 2022) — THE PLANET knew the day was coming. Nonetheless, it still seems unreal. Tom Brady, the ageless GOAT, has officially retired.

GOAT, not just for his position, but GOAT including every position. There’s a new No. 1, Tom Brady. Now in second place all-time, the great Jim Brown.

THE PLANET won’t even try to lists all the superlatives and stats.

Perhaps you start with the seven Super Bowl rings, the 10 SB appearances, the 10 conference championships, the 14 conference appearances (twice as much as the next guy), the 17 division titles in 18 years as the Patriots starting QB (didn’t start in his rookie year and missed virtually all of 2008 with a knee injury).

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft put it best of anyone:

“Words cannot describe the feelings I have for Tom Brady, nor adequately express the gratitude my family, the New England Patriots and our fans have for Tom for all he did during his career. A generation of football fans have grown up knowing only an NFL in which Tom Brady dominated. He retires with nearly every NFL career passing record, yet the only one that ever mattered to him was the team’s win-loss record. In his 20 years as a starter his teams qualified for the playoffs 19 times. He led his teams to 10 Super Bowls, winning an NFL-record seven championships. In a team sport like football, it is rare to see an individual have such a dominant impact on a team’s success. You didn’t have to be a Patriots fan to respect and appreciate his competitiveness, determination and will to win that fueled his success. As a fan of football, it was a privilege to watch. As a Patriots fan, it was a dream come true.

“I have the greatest respect for Tom personally and always will. His humility, coupled with his drive and ambition, truly made him special. I will always feel a close bond to him and will always consider him an extension of my immediate family.”

Well said, Robert.

As once website noted, Boston, Titletown, now boasts the “quadfecta” — “the Mt. Rushmore of GOATs in the four major sports” — Brady in football, Bill Russell in basketball, Bobby Orr in hockey, and Babe Ruth in baseball.

———- ooo ———-

Peyton Manning also had a great tribute:

“Congratulations to my friend Tom on an unbelievable career,” Manning said. “To do it as long as he did, at the highest of levels is absolutely incredible. It was an honor and privilege to compete against him on the field, and I truly appreciate his friendship off the field. I have always admired and respected his competitiveness, his dedication, his discipline, and his commitment to being the best. I wish him the best in his next chapter. Congratulations again, pal!”

We leave it to Boston.cbs to put some it down for the record. Buckle up:

This is where the conversation on Tom Brady starts: His ridiculous success in the Super Bowl. Brady went to the big game 10 times, and his seven Super Bowl wins is the record for a quarterback, three ahead of his idol, Joe Montana, and Terry Bradshaw. Brady has more Super Bowl wins than any other quarterback has Super Bowl appearances. He owns more Super Bowl rings to himself than 30 NFL franchises can claim.

That’s perverse! But it’s only the start.

Brady has five Super Bowl MVPs — more than anyone else. His 21 touchdowns passes in the big game are more than anyone else, more than the next two guys on the list (Montana, 11, and Bradshaw, 9) combined. He spread those 21 touchdowns out to 13 different receivers over the years.

He also owns the most career passing yards in Super Bowl history (3,039) and the most passing yards in a single game with 505, which he set in New England’s Super Bowl LII loss to the Eagles. It broke his own record of 466 yards set against the Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Yes, Brady has so many Super Bowl records that he broke his own from time to time.

All that winning means there was probably a game-winning drive or two involved. How about six? Brady led game-winning drives to take the lead or break a tie in the fourth quarter in each of New England’s Super Bowl wins, making him, obviously, the only quarterback to lead game-winning drives in six Super Bowls.

Let that one soak in: Brady led game-winning drives to take the lead or break a tie in the fourth quarter in each of New England’s six Super Bowl wins. He also led go-ahead drives in the fourth quarter in two of New England’s Super Bowl losses.

He got a jump on making all this history, as Brady is the only quarterback to start and win three Super Bowls before his 28th birthday.

And despite playing in all those Super Bowls against the best team the opposing conference had to offer, Brady only threw six career Super Bowl interceptions, which is only the fourth-most — impressive considering he’s been there more than anyone. Brady threw 48 straight passes without getting picked off in two different Super Bowls.

Brady dominating the NFL well into his 40s is something that will likely never be repeated. He was the oldest quarterback to start a Super Bowl, the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl, and the oldest player to win a Super Bowl, doing all of that at the age of 43 years, six months and five days with his Super Bowl LV win with the Buccaneers over the Chiefs.

Playoffs

Brady started 47 playoff games and walked off the field victorious in 35 of them — both NFL records. He leads the world in postseason touchdown passes (86) and yards (13,049).

If that isn’t enough, he also owns the most postseason completions (1,165), multi-TD passing games (28) and 300-yard passing games (18).

Fine, let’s keep going. His 14 Conference Championship Game appearances are the most ever by a quarterback during the Super Bowl era, as are his 10 victories.

Brady has thrown three or more touchdowns in 13 of his playoff appearances, the most since the 1970 merger. His 27 multi-TD games in the postseason are the most ever as well.

The Rest Of The Best

Ready for all of Brady’s passing records? These include postseason numbers as well:

– Most passing yards all-time with 96,969
– Most passing touchdowns with 707
– Most passing attempts (13,081) and completions (8,369)
– Most touchdowns thrown to different receivers at 92
– Most wins by any player (278)

Now let’s take a look without playoff numbers:

– Most passing yards of all-time with 84,520
– Most passing touchdowns with 624
– Most passing attempts (11,317) and completions (7,263)
– Most wins by any player (243)

Despite leading the football world in passing yards and touchdown passes, Brady didn’t throw too many passes to the other team. He is tied for 29th on the NFL all-time interception list.

But wait, there is more! So, so much more.

– Brady’s three NFL MVP awards are tied for the second-most all-time, behind Peyton Manning’s five MVP trophies. Brady was 40 years old when he won in 2017, the oldest player in NFL history to bring home the award.

– Brady has been named to 15 Pro Bowls (though he didn’t usually play in them for obvious reasons), one of only five players in NFL history with that many Pro Bowl nods.

– Brady’s 14.00 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2016 (when he tossed 28 touchdowns to just two interceptions) is an NFL single-season record. Brady’s 3.07 touchdown-to-interception ratio for his career is fourth all-time behind Aaron Rodgers (4.83), Patrick Mahomes (4.08), and Russell Wilson (3.36).

– We’re gonna talk about 2007 — just not the end of it. That was the season Brady ripped up the record books, tossing a then-record 50 touchdowns passes and compiling 4,806 yards. He completed 68.9 percent of his passes and averaged 300 passing yards per game for the season. Brady and Randy Moss put on a clinic, connecting for a record 23 scores.

It didn’t end the way anyone wanted it to, but it was one heck of an offensive display by Brady and company.

– Brady led the NFL in touchdown passes four times with the Patriots (2002, 07, 10, 15) and then again with the Buccaneers in his final season, tossing 43 touchdowns at the age of 44 in 2021. Those five seasons as the NFL’s touchdown leader are the most ever by any quarterback.

Brady also led the NFL with 5,316 passing yards in 2021, making him the oldest quarterback to lead the league in passing yards.

– Brady shared the love like no one else. He hit 92 different players for a touchdown during his career, which is obviously an NFL Record.

– Wins. Brady won a lot of games. He is one of only four players in NFL history with at least one win over all 32 teams in the league.

Brady won more at home (133) than any other quarterback. And he won more on the road (110) than any other quarterback.

He had 13 straight 10-win seasons, and 12 straight 11-win seasons — both NFL records. All those victories led to 19 division titles, the most ever by a starting QB.

So many wins for No. 12.

Finally, THE PLANET personally thanks Tom Brady for giving us our single most favorite memory in all our years as a sports fan: The Patriots win in Super Bowl XXXVI, the game, the 4th quarter drive, that started it all. We watched that game with our dad, he in his favorite chair — THE CHAIR — and we in our mom’s chair. Brady drove down the field and Adam Vinatieri split the uprights, a close bond once again fusing, one into the other, proved the child ephemeral and the parent immortal.

Much has been written about Tom Brady’s retirement but none better than this piece. Accurately and beautifully written as to why Brady is the number 1 retiree of all time. Loved it, Dan, this sendoff is one of the best I have seen.

Great Article Dan!!!I believe Chuck made that tackle! I also belive he was crapping his pants before our great one took The Great One down., Agree Brady is The Greatest ever lived. But give me this The Holy Roller demolishes the Brady Tuck’ which for all I tents and purposes vaulted your man to this G O A T moniker. So thank you Raiders. Al Davis coined the phrase Just Win. And Tom did just that for our beloved Pats.

Well, not really so, Gorilla. This was my fourth time against Brown and all other games were close and decided in the last quarter. We beat Syracuse and Jim Brown my freshman year. After that, there were good games during my sophomore and junior years. Our senior years were something else because Jim Brown had developed into a superstar. Syracuse killed Colgate. It was never the same after that. Ernie Davis came along and he was as good as Brown, who now ran over the pros. Shortly after Colgate decided to call it quits and began playing in the Patriot’s League. Brown went on to become an NFL football star and Ernie Davis died a natural death before pro football playing days. What a crying shame!

Elsewhere Maumaus celebrated with a violent food revolt which included bashing and smashing each other’s skulls with baby highchairs because feeding time was off a bit. And no arrests were made! Unfortunately Belichick didn’t want to plan his team roster around an aging QB. Brady felt he had a few more years left, so he joined the Bucs, and wow, he led them to a Super Bowl win and a playoff, retiring before any catastrophic injuries.

Enjoy time with your family, Brady!

You really need to be on twitter so see what a brown nosing bootlicker of a pol our DA is. She’s retweeted Rep. Joe Kennedy’s wife’s tweet of a Washington Post article. It’s about DC city council’s decision to hand over $10k to daycare workers. It’s just a pile a cash for one segment of the economy impacted by Covid. Never mind that this will be an administrative nightmare with the potential for massive fraud, not to mention a stupid one-off gimmick that solves nothing. The Berkshire County DA says it’s common sense because…Kennedy.
The same dunder-headed city council also voted to allow senior citizens to attest to their own medical need for marijuana, rather than see a doctor. Never mind that marijuna use can contribute to respiratory complications such as bronchitis, making COVID-19 more dangerous for seniors already at risk. Our DA never seems to read anything or examine any evidence before spewing an opinion. Please keep her empty head away from the courts.

Berkshire Eagle
Letter: Kudos for editorial raising questions on DA’s behavior

To the editor: I write to commend The Berkshire Eagle for publishing its editorial “Some serious questions for Berkshire DA.” (Eagle, Jan. 29.)
I have resided in Lenox since the end of August 2021, having moved here after living in Baltimore for 36 years. As a lawyer, law professor and longtime Baltimore city resident, I was astounded by District Attorney Andrea Harrington’s tweet supporting Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby and Ms. Mosby’s assertion that the federal criminal charges recently lodged against her stemmed from retaliation about her handling of the 2015 Freddie Gray case, which gained a great deal of national attention.

Ms. Mosby’s argument is an insult to the federal grand jurors who reviewed all the evidence presented to them and to the United States attorneys who brought the case. As she or anyone accused of a crime in this country is entitled, Ms. Mosby will have her day in court, where the burden of proof is on the federal government to prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

For the Berkshire County DA to jump on Ms. Mosby’s bandwagon and to proclaim her a victim, however, defies logic and good sense. As a prosecutor herself, Ms. Harrington should have known better and should have gathered all the facts, as we instruct law students, rather than succumbing to Ms. Mosby’s attempts to undermine this country’s legal system, of which both she and Ms. Mosby are a significant part.

I’m sure if they come to the basement you live in I have a feeling it’s covered with articles and pictures of her.

Dude your stalking the DA is getting weird. Really grow up.

Stalking, pictures, basement. You wrote this already on this blog like 10 times and directed it at other people. What about the law prof above, is she a stalker, too?

I just read a political news article about Super PAC Man Richie Neal raising more K Street lobbyist money than ever. How does that work out for the people who live in his mostly rural Western Massachusetts Congressional District? Answer: Richie Neal only represents K Street lobbyist firms, especially Insurance Companies.

https://readsludge.com/2022/02/02/neals-pac-is-raising-more-money-than-ever/

Meanwhile, on February 1st, 2022, the U.S. National Debt crossed the $30 trillion mark. Joe Biden has spent well over $10 trillion in his first year as U.S. President, while Richie Neal refuses to raise federal taxes to pay for Biden’s Buck$ because his real constituency are his K Street lobbyist firms who are filling his campaign coffers with a record amount of money.

The Hill recently reported that the top K Street lobbyist firms reported record earnings in 2021. If you want to know where all of the Biden Buck$ are going, please look at Super PAC Man Richie Neal.

Dan, Agree with Chuck that this is a well-written tribute to Brady. I clearly remember when he came in for Bledsoe and his boyish enthusiasm coupled with his great skills lit up the team and the fans. What I appreciate the most about him was that he was a 6th round draft pick and through discipline, drive, and guts pushed himself to the pinnacle of success. 6th round pick? HA! What a remarkable athlete.

Right place, right time, he owes all his breaks to Kraft and Belecheck yet couldn’t thank either, nor his New England teammates or fans, on way out of NFL.

He is a shining example of ingratitude!

Fake news from the Jet loving Commissioner who is still upset Belichek gave him the proverbial finger when he left the Commissioners team the Jets. Even a fifth grader showed how cold air deflates things

I’ve seen them all post Brady pre Brady. On achievement greatest all time. On talent that’s another story. I believe this Joe Burrow in time could be the heir apparent, will find out next Sunday. Greatest athlete to come out of Pittsfield was Belanger. And I couldnt stand him or his brother.

Belcheciky doesn’t have a heart. And is a known cheat. ASIDE. RIcky Moral stop leaving long winded storm message on my phone!!! You’re not that important to us, a two minute call?I’ll figure my own weather problems out.

By the way RIcky. You have a diminutive police officer, who makes almost double you make. And good for her. Do not defund police. Defund shot sputter, plowing two inches of snow, and vacations disguised as administrative promotions at the tax payer dime.

Seriously? Brady is the one who made Kraft a billionaire and made Bellenchecks name recognizable. Without Brady no one would know who either of them are.

The Pittsfield library reeks of skunk pot. Went in there briefly and it was an overwhelming stench. So sad that children are going into this library and have to breathe in this disgusting odor. The library also used to be family oriented, but now has been taken over by people who are creating a bad and unhealthy environment in the library.

Went to Big Y on West Street today, parking lot reeked of skunk pot from the soon to be opened BudHaus on West Street. Then went to Joanne Fabrics and their parking lot reeked of skunk pot from Berkshire Roots. Welcome to Potsfield, the City filled with pot shops and growers. The City where hard working taxpayers taxes keep getting raised, yet Mayor Tyrant has yet to tell us how much revenue is being taken in from these establishments!!! Too bad our Mayor Tyrant mandated masks don’t block out the stench.

Pelosi is warning those attending the Olympics in China that they should not speak out against China because China is highly dangerous and may destroy their reputations. Gosh Nancy that sounds a lot like what the far left is doing in this country if anybody speaks out against the policies of the Biden Administration.
