(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION APRIL 8-10, 2022) — Whenever the press has referred to the author of THE PLANET, it almost always uses the adjective “controversial.” It’s a tired, inaccurate means of saying we dare to speak and own our words, which we never serve anonymously and certainly without claim to papal infallibility.
Our facts, indisputable. Our opinions, be our guest.
And it is with amusement that we observe the tumult that often ensues in the wake of our words. The readers of this board are among those who “get it.” Local politicians, though — having been pampered so long with a local media literally afraid to roil the scummy waters — have developed onion skins, wafer thin and ignorantly thick. Of course, that’s why THE PLANET stalks the face of the earth, eager to exchange our pen for a bludgeon.
Let us, therefore, present these brief impressions of the humorous “leaders” who continue to make life miserable for Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski. C’mon down, mayor, councilors, key administration members, and district attorney.
LINDA TYER: A mayor of no great distinction except for displaying what H.L. Mencken called “the American lust for the hideous,” the love of ugly for its own sake. How else do you explain the condition of roads, the trash, the encouragement for making Pittsfield a welcome spot for all manner of outside scum?
PETER MARCHETTI: The man who wants to be liked and loved. Afraid of his own shadow, which, rumor has it, actually attacked him with several beer mugs once under the lights at Wahconah Park . Seems content to serve as the mayor’s major enabler. Worst council president in Pittsfied’s “modern era.” Co-opted.
PETER WHITE: The city’s best-known food critic. Thinks people are actually interested in his brain-celled obsession for photographing the meals of his eating out. Mama’s boy and super-hero loving lad still waiting for the onset of puberty. Androgynous with a mix of dysphoric and a dash of eunuch might explain him.
EARL PERSIP: In case you didn’t hear him tell you, he’s (choose one) black, a Negro, a person of color, or Afro-American. Heck, he might be all four. Or none. Made famous by TDBPR: The Dumpster Behind Paul Rich, which has become one of Pittsfield’s main tourist traps. We can’t say the same for Equity Earl.
KAREN KALINOWSKI: If you can get by the face, which advertises a hint of Appalachian inbreeding, this new councilor is seeking an identity. Former cop status means she’s double-dipping on retirement bennies as well as council compensation. Stands at the plate thinking she’ll hit into a double play. Batter up.
KEN WARREN: The eternal candidate. Political philosophy is like the blind squirrel. Do it enough and occasionally you find a nut. An attorney by degree if not by trade, we still can’t get the image of him pumping gas at the East and Lyman filling station out of our mind. They say those pump fumes are dangerous.
CHARLES IVAR KRONICK: Besides looking like Peter O’Toole and talking like Jerry Lewis, he had the best lawn signs and boasts the most interesting moniker among the 11. Early work shows he might be aiming for Arlos status — if he can last that long. Are Tyer and Co. plotting his downfall? Strategy is all.
KEVIN SHERMAN: Council’s white bread. Will never raise an eyebrow idiotic administration policy such as e-scooters, Ricky’s Rumpus, and the waste of ARPA funds. Nicest guy you’ll ever meet. Served as juror when THE PLANET was foreman. Reasonable lad but insurance gig means he won’t push it.
JIM CONANT: The Barbarian dates back to the days of the Civic Authority sinking. Made it clear then he was and will forever be a Made Man in the Mob that runs the city. Knows how to tame a green and replace a divot, but that hasn’t translated into ward action. Loyal soldier gets fat share of Roadwork dollars. Tut.
PATRICK KAVEY: Cave-in Kavey. He earned the nickname by ducking the debate on the ARPA funds. Didn’t want to approve because of his insecurity in the ward and didn’t want to disapprove to risk the Wrath of Tyer, and The Suits. Exemplifies “the Curse of Potential.” Cave-in fits right in, left of progressive.
DINA LAMPIOSI: Miss Conflict of Interest 2022, triple dips as councilor, licensing boarder, and D.A. hatchet women. Serves Harrington strictly in a political capacity. Not well like by some in the office and not respected at all by court types. Handy with a tongue, we hear. Knows the spots and picks, hits them well.
ANTHONY MAFFUCCIO: Went from Two-Ton Tony to Twiggy Tony. Weight loss and masking has given him a haunted, not-to-be-here-long look. Makes you want to instinctively want to suck for oxygen or at least a bout of deep breathing. THE PLANET would pay admission to hear him pronounce “Barbalunga.”
ANDREA HARRINGTON: Has more nicknames than any D.A. in county history. THE PLANET‘s is the one that’s stuck: Wrong Way. Sums up the entirety of her first term. PR-addicted lightweight still finds areolic ballast outside the county. Courtship of mobbed-up Bostonians puts her on fast track. So she thinks.
DEANNA RUFFER: THE PLANET still thinks she’s actually John Evans, former keyboardist for Ian Anderson’s Jethro Tull. Gold digger of the public treasury. Thinks a map is a playpen. Has never been in a mouthwash ad. Handles public dollars like Monopoly money. THE PLANET says kick a buck.
RICARDO MORALES: Will get the role of “Pepino” when THE PLANET produces a 2022 remake of The Real McCoys. Co-creator along with Tyer of Ricky’s Rumpus, the smash hit game show that has claimed the life of more axel rods than an Encino junk yard. Admin keeps him insecure to keep him under control.
MATT KERWOOD: Kufflinks! As finance director, we hear tell that he loves the books so much he keeps a second and third set. Speak-wise, Kufflinks’ is the Wizard of Uhs. “I, uh, think, uh, that it’s, uh, prudent, uh …” Incapable of holding a job in Dreaded Private Sector. Numbers-shuffler in the numbers racket.
KRISTEN BEHNKE: Tex is so good at her job with school finances that she needs nine other women under her to handle the heavy load, even though we also have a city side business manager. Another six-figure faker, Tex loves to cry poor over the schools, which only take 75 cents of every Kapanski dollar.
JOE CURTIS: “Jumpin’ Joe” is the product of what happens when Pittsfield sets out on another “nationwide search” to fill a key public office. Groomed through the corrupt Pittsfield Public School system well enough to know that the $$$ lies in keeping your mouth shut, hearing nothing, and saying even less.

Pittsfield politics is a sad caricature of a corrupt one political (Democratic) party group of provincial insiders who charge taxpayers top dollar for substandard municipal services and Level 5 public schools – the WORST of both worlds. Mayor Linda Tyer lives in a mansion valued at over $800,000 in Pittsfield’s only elitist Gated Community within a few feet of the border with Hancock, which is as far away from the Kapanski family as she can reside while still living in Pittsfield. She takes her marching orders from Godfather Jimmy Ruberto of Naples Florida, who still runs Pittsfield’s notorious Good Old Boy network that put Pittsfield and its distressed economy into the proverbial ditch. Pittsfield politics shuts out the people and taxpayers through strong-arm tactics, rule by fear and retribution. Ward 2 Charles Ivar Kronick speaks out about what is really happening in Pittsfield, and in return, he got shafted to the point of him having to write a letter to the Editor about Mayor Linda Tyer’s “Business as usual” failed leadership. Mayor Linda Tyer wants everyone to be her Rubber Stamp so that she can continue to pass record high municipal spending for pothole-filled streets, the city’s dangerous downtown’s violent crime, failing public schools, and so on. Moreover, Mayor Linda Tyer is sitting on tens of millions of dollars in Biden Bucks and Slush Funds, but she won’t allow for any transparency in her administration’s financial sausage making. Let us not forget about Pittsfield’s corrupt career politicians on Beacon Hill – Trippy Country Buffet and Chrome Dome Adam Hinds – who only do DISSERVICES to the people and taxpayers of Massachusetts. In closing, Pittsfield politics is a lost cause for the proverbial Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski, and boy don’t they know it from years/decades of being beaten down by the likes of Jimmy, Linda, Tricia, Kufflinks, and company.

While I’m not a fan of Isaac Asimov, I have bought a couple of his books of limericks, both of them at book sales at the library.
I didn’t know IA produced such books.
I also wasn’t aware that Asimov wrote limericks until I saw at a book sale and out of curiosity, and because it was a first edition, I bought it. It’s raunchy curiosity. Years later, I found another book of raunchy limericks by Asimov. Another curiosity, I found at a church sale, is titled “BONERS – By Those Who Pulled Them” Illustrated by Dr. Seuss

Pittsfield politicians no longer care about sprucing up our city to bring in outsiders to live here. They have a ready population of illegal immigrants to bring here. The illegal immigrants think they are coming into a country that values freedom, but will soon find out that this government wants to indoctrinate your children with their sexual values and political agenda in order to create lots of political activists to win them lots of elections and keep them in power. The immigrants are coming from countries that have treated them poorly so they are used to this type of control, but our country has added a whole new level of control beginning with wanting the state to have the ultimate authority over your children.
I think Karen Kalinowski is great and one of the few people on the council who is looking out for we the people. The others are trying to pull her into their “We don’t care about you, it’s all about our agenda”, but I hope she fights back against their control.

Dan’s visions of most of the others was pretty much spot on because he addressed their lack of character or competency, but his take on Karen Kalinowski was totally uncalled for. Not cute, not funny or in any way amusing.
I agree. We finally have a few people of character on the council and I think they should be applauded. I’m talking about Kalinowsky & Kronick. Bravo to them for doing a good job.

Look at all the arrests for drugs with illegal handguns in NA. Will these armed drug dealers be let back out on the street as they are young and can’t help themselves? Some of them have violent assaults going back to 2015.

22-year-old Miquel Estrella, shot to death by the PPD like a rabid dog in the street was the poster child of the success stories of past grants to address youths at risk.
So, I expect that the PPD/chief wynn, will spend this $396,000 on an arsenal of new weapons of mass destruction in his quest to annihilate rabid dogs in the streets of Pittsfield. It certainly won’t save even one youth at risk, or anyone else, from deadly violence perpetrated by the trill killers of the PPD.

Police are now saying she may never have entered the park at all since the last ping from her cell phone comes from a residential neighborhood across the street from the park. They say no foul play is suspected. How can they say that when she just disappears into a neighborhood? Did somebody take her into their home and she couldn’t escape? Was she going from house to house trying to get help from someone who was chasing her? Lots of strangers in that neighborhood because of current construction projects. It was an extremely cold blustery day not exactly the type of day for taking a hike or wandering around a strange neighborhood.

In the 70s and 80s several young women went missing. Some of bodies were found, and none of those young women died from natural causes. Some have never been found. Many of the cases remain unsolved. Another unsolved murder is that of a 20-year-old Pittsfield young man, I would even call him a boy. Anthony went missing July 4, 2005. His brutally murdered remains were discovered 13 days later. I once read that the Anthony was last seen with a convicted sex offender who just happened to be the brother of an unscrupulous cop. And other family members, siblings, convicted child kidnappers/sex offenders, of the unscrupulous cop, have been tied to other suspicious deaths, including the drowning death of an 18-month-old boy in February 2000. The convicted sex offender/kidnapper was with the 18-month-old when he drowned in the bathtub, and the cops ruled his death accidental.

Thank you for sending me the Saturday Scoop political email….My responses to your political email are that all of the eligible people have a legal right to vote in elections, and it is downright wrong for the State House of Representatives to take away – in part or in whole – that fundamental right to participate in democracy; moreover, the State House of Representatives should ensure that the hundreds of thousands of minority voters will no be disenfranchised of their right to vote in elections by supporting SDR instead of blocking SDR; the corrupt career politicians on Beacon Hill should allow their staffers to unionize, and the state lawmakers should so-called “work” more than three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) for only a few hours each day, and they should not be taking 5 months off of so-called “work” from August through December of 2022, while being paid their 6-figure public pay and perks for doing nothing but mostly being rubber stamps for Speaker Ronny Mariano and Senate President Karen Spilka; the competing Climate Change bills should not be costing state taxpayers $250 million that would hurt the state’s struggling working class more than any other demographic group; moreover, energy prices in Massachusetts are already higher than most other states, but the corrupt career politicians in Boston will probably make it even more economically and financially painful for the struggling working class families, Governor Charlie Baker’s alleged and criticized inaction on criminal justice reforms shows – once again – that he is all about the Almighty Dollar instead of investing in the actual people who live in Massachusetts; and lastly, I believe that the do nothing Beacon Hill lawmakers are very wrong to always block transparency rules reform measures in state government, and that your organization’s ballot initiative to instruct the useless State Representatives to make their committee votes public is a worthy cause.

More and more I miss the Allendale sinking ship! It always gave me the visual for where Pittsfield was heading. It would have been great art to paint all of Pittsfield’s so called leaders over the past 60 years on the hull so everyone could see who lead us here. I would love to add some caricatures of my own but it’s too painful and my eyes get to watering asking myself why I continue to live in the Pitts. Another only in Pittsfield! Just saw the 2022 4th of July fund raiser poster. Very nice until you read the words. “Back With A Bang! ” How significant since Pittsfield now features gun fire almost every day and citizens are fearful. Too bad, as the picture is very well done and cheerful. Since Pee Pee Petie and Food Critic Petie head the Parade Committee it really shows their mind set about the state of the City. The simple words “Were Back” would have been more significant!
The “bang” also means the endless days of neighborhood fireworks to harass the public and make everyone dread the 4th of July, except in the wealthy neighborhoods where there is peace and quiet on the 4th of July. Ricky Rumpass was at it again. Going to church late this morning I was driving around the bend in Elm St right before the bridge when out of the corner of my eyeI see a kid on a motorized scooter jumping off the sidewalk and looking like they were coming right at my car. Of course they weren’t following any of the rules of the road. Well I reacted by going wide even though a car was pulling out of Deming St trying to avoid a pothole coming into my lane. How everyone missed one another I don’t know but I made sure to say some extra prayers
Ricky’s Rumpus is a real life 1980’s type video game. The game “Paperboy” comes to mind. While delivering the papers, you had to steer around potholes, traffic, kids skateboarding, and drunks staggering, otherwise your bike got damaged and you lost a life.
