(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION JUNE 10-12, 2022) — THE PLANET watched the Jan. 6 congressional hearings Thursday night, also know as “The Bad, the Worse, and the Ugly.”
Forgive us, but we got confused. Before 15 minutes were up, time for some Democrat fame, we thought we were watching a Bela Lugosi film, where as the mad doctor he expresses his love of Poe by luring the young lovers into a room where the walls begin to slowly move in on the lovebirds for a s-q-i-s-h. It looks hopeless. No way can they escape.
That’s what those poor, desperate folks on the partisan congressional panel brought to mind: People who realize the walls are closing in and soon.
The lovers had a couple minutes and, of course, this being only a movie, enjoyed a last-second rescue. The Democrats have until Nov. 6 before they’re crushed, and as it stands now, hopes for a last-minute reprieve seem unlikely. In the extreme. Nov. 6 dates the mid-term elections, when, given the how the once-honorable party has caved to a small group of radicals on the Loon Left (see, for example, AOC, the Squad, Liz Warren, and the like), the Dems will meet their fate. It won’t be pretty.
These hearings won’t fool many if any. They do, however, exemplify how EVERYTHING is within the D.C. Beltway must serve a political purpose, before and exclusive of all else.
Pure politics.
In prime time.
In what amounts to an hours-long “infomercial” pushing the political equivalent of Ron Popeil’s Hair In A Can.
For a committee with no power to prosecute.

Despite controlling both houses and the White House, they now are reckoning with what the rest of America knows: They have made a mess, a massive toxic spill that has derailed this once-great country. I didn’t watch it, but saw small bits of it on other news channels and that was all I could take. RINO Liz Cheney saying that 1/6 wasn’t spontaneous, but was planned. Well, surprise is not a bad reaction to elicit. I DO trust my readers to make up their own minds, and nowhere am I trying to “make up” anyone’s mind. The police were testifying as they in their recollections of those moments. The police are not actors in the sense in which you are using the term, but to some extent, they are performing, as everyone does who must testify in the public spotlight. What surprises me is how, given the extreme political climate that prevails in the country, anyone can be surprised at what happened on Jan. 6. Think back to all the looting, violence, and mayhem that took place in big cities across the country after the George Floyd incident. Yeats was right about the center. It could not hold. We now have rule by radicals on the Loon Left and the Rabid Right. Moderates and centrists? Gone the way of the typewriter and chalkboards.
Are you saying that the solution to the looting was to overturn the election? That was the best way to handle it? By the way, I am very much against the looting and burning and mayhem. If the police or owners of the business s took up arms I would have been in favor of that. And I am a fan of Kyle Rittenhouse.

I didn’t see it then and don’t see it now as “an attempt to overthrow democracy” of “an attempted coup.” I was completely against what the idiots did who invaded the Capitol. It was loose and unorganized, incited by a small handful of dumb-dumbs. For it to be a try at a “coup,” it would have had to pose a serious threat to the government itself, which would ultimately mean the full force of the country’s military. A look at history’s coups and attempted coups show a serious threat to a government’s ability to defend itself. See, for example, Germany’s “Beer Hall” coup attempt in the early 20s, or more recently, the successful coup in Myanmar. We agree Jan. 6 had nothing to do with looting.

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. — Police in south suburban Floosmoor were called to the home of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx earlier this month after a domestic dispute between her and her husband allegedly turned physical.
Foxx’s husband called 911 shortly after 10 p.m. on June 4, according to records from Flossmoor police obtained by WGN through the Freedom of Information Act,
“[Foxx’s husband] explained that Kimberly got mad about something that was posted on Facebook that he did,” one of the responding officers wrote in a report. “Kimberly asked him to leave and he refused.”
Foxx’s husband said that’s when she grabbed him by the collar and threw down a video game controller he was holding, according to police records. He went on to tell police that Foxx slapped him on the left cheek.

I am happy to be back posting again. I wish everyone well. I hope the Pittsfield City Council will vote down Mayor Linda Tyer’s over $188.1 proposed municipal budget on Tuesday evening, June 14th, 2022. I wouldn’t want to pay for Level 5 public schools and substandard city services either.

The City Council has asked the Mayor to increase the budget by $116,000. I think it will pass. We are screwed.
When the mayor, Barry and Kerwood found out that gas for all city vehicles was going to triple, and that heating oil for all its buildings was going to triple, they immediately asked for $500,000 for a pickle ball court. They are not worrying one effing bit about the budget because they can tax the citizenry into the ground if they feel like it. And it seems they do.

The story about domestic violence at the residence of DA Foxx of Chicago only saw the light of day because of a TV station foi. This is a prosecutor of one of the largest cities in America involved in a domestic violence incident. Foxx, along with DA Harrington, are part of a group called Fair and Just Prosecution that claims to support progressive district attorneys across the country. Harrington has promised to bring “heightened focus and sophistication to the investigation of domestic violence” in Berkshire County.
So here is what Foxx said:
Foxx and her husband issued a statement to WGN News that said, “This is a personal family matter, and we ask that you provide our family with respect and privacy. “
This neanderthal message about domestic violence is one of the worst things anyone can say, let alone a supposedly “woke prosecutor.” It is exactly how domestic violence perpetrators hide. It is exactly how victims have no voice. It is how things escalate and people die. Harrington herself has stood on this very pulpit as she announced her “domestic violence high risk team.” Foxx should be denounced by every prosecutor for her comment. Yet we hear crickets from fellow progressive Andrea Harrington. Except for here:

Now it is back and looks like it has more support than before. What are we thinking of? This is a ridiculous game. I won’t call it a sport because it is not. It is something older people play and that is fine with me. What is not fine is some folks want city taxpayers’ dollars to pay for this so-called sport.I know the main sport of many Pittsfield leaders is pocket pool. No problem. Enjoy yourselves. If they really cared about seniors they would cut their property taxes.
As a senior who has lived most of my life in Pittsfield I have minimal trash to be picked up and I diligently recycle. I do not even put out the recycling until it is near full so the truck does not need to stop each week.
Do not use that much water. Have never called the fire department for any reason (thankfully). Maybe called the police once. Drive minimally on the city roads. Have never had a child in the city school system.
And yet MY property taxes are not so different than my neighbor who has three kids in the city schools, three cars on their roads, and use considerably more of the city’s water and sewer services.
Isn’t it odd that the mayor can find all kinds of reasons to give tax breaks for this one or that one but seniors using much less of the city resources are undeserving of any such break?
I have no problem paying taxes. But there needs to be some equity. I should not be subsidizing someone who uses many more resources or the “business” getting juicy long term tax reductions while giving very little in return.
Aren’t you a liberal Democrat? They believe in taking all citizens money because they know better on how to spend it then you do! Keep voting that D way with TDS and you will continue to pay the pigs at the trough

That’s over $45 million, folks, not thousands. How is this being spent? Why can’t ALL cannabis dollars be applied to lower real estate taxes?

I didn’t find anywhere in the budget where it specifically addressed that. Let’s see: $45 million+ in revenue + power + little to no accountability. What could possibly go wrong?
Admit I am not sure how many pot shops are in Great Barrington, but with so many pot shops in Pittsfield, I find the difference in amount taken in a bit strange. Great Barrington took in $26,064,702 more than Pittsfield. That seems to me quite a difference. The way Pittsfield does their vibrant and dynamic Tyer/Clairmont/Kerwood accounting, something just seems fishy.
THE PLANET looked further into the pot $$. The $45,000,000 in pot revenue is gross sales, not what the city collected. The City should have received around 1.3 million based on a 3% sales tax. The pot money was designated by the council. 25% goes to stabilization and 50% to roads. The remaining 25% goes to the general fund.
Pickleball is being funded thru ARPA, not thru real estate taxes.
As usual, Dan is correct. My point is to allocate all cannabis tax dollars to real estate tax reduction. Educated Pittsfield politicians may set up any system with a percentage for allocation but this will change when you are looking at the next headline. My point is a simplistic approach. All cannabis dollars returned to the city be allocated to real estate tax reduction. I’m looking for a simplistic approach to the allocation of monies returned to Pittsfield. I know our city council has intellectual discussions on the allocation of tax dollars. I’m just trying to simplify things.
Avoid Allendale in Pittsfield. It’s a disaster area. One lane traffic in many areas has created a terrible situation. Wall to wall traffic. Mayor Tyer has all of these construction projects going on at the same time with no thought to the consequences to drivers.
By 2030 you’ll have no car and you’ll enjoy it.
