PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENT

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY AUG. 31, 2022) — THE PLANET here to remind you: Just six more days til Christmas, folks.

On Sept. 6, you have the opportunity to vote. In theory, it’s the greatest, restorative, electoral mechanism placed in the hands of Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski, that is, We The People. Again in theory, you have the chance to oust the skunks, freeloaders, pretenders, and the in-it-for-the-money-and-benefit types.

Or not.

Speaking of Bay State’s Ed Markey and President Joe Biden, as the Boston Herald‘s Peter Lucas writes this week, each has been “on a government payroll for 50 years. Once elected, they never left.” As Lucas points out, they’ve never held a REAL job in the Dreaded Private Sector. While we’re at it, throw in Elizabeth Warren. Lucas has this gem: “Warren, who snaked her way through the academy by falsely claiming to be Native American, was paid $429,981 by Harvard for the ’20-’21 academic year.”

That’s almost as much as BCC pays The Ol’ Perfessor, Dan Valenti!

What brought Lucas’ wrath is Biden’s hypocritical forgiveness of student loans. As he points out, it screws everyone who schlepped it to pay their legally binding debt or who otherwise footed their own bill themselves.

“This will teach you to play by the rules, sucker,” Lucas writes.

Be honest and get ripped off, or break the law and get freebies.

Welcome to Amerika, 2022.

———- ooo ———-

In other Bay State news, besides Boston’s city council civil war, a Cambridge cop was placed on administrative leave Monday after slamming into three motorcyclists who were waiting at a traffic stop. Cambridge police charged colleague Michael Daniliuk with operating while under the influence (OUI), what we used to more descriptively call “drunk driving.”

THE PLANET takes a wild guess on this one, but it looks like the Cambridge Police do not believe in “professional courtesy” aka “the Big Blue Wall.”

Good for them. They actually obey the law and don’t cover for one of their own.

How unlike other locales in Massachusetts. Don’t you feel like a sucker when you get stopped for “erratic driving,” are written up by the highway patrol, have the penalty imposed, and serve the penalty? And then watch it make the local news?

Wouldn’t you feel more like an all-day sucker if you found out that, hypothetically, police stopped a prominent political figure and this person pulled a “Do you know who I am?” and got a local cop to “make a phone call?” Then, for the icing on the shit sandwich, wouldn’t you gag to learn that through “proper channels,” local law enforcement made all evidence simply vanish?

Yeah, you probably would.

Fortunately, nothing of the kind happens here.

Not in “America’s Scenic Playground.”

We are blessed.

———- ooo ———-

Stay tuned for the next production on PLANET VALENTI VIDEO. On Friday, if schedules hold, we film a roundtable in which THE PLANET and company compare notes on our coverage of Campaign ’22.

The exact lineup is still in flux. Who actually will accept our invitation we won’t know until the clapboard goes down on Friday and we begin the show.

THE PLANET shall prepare for all eventualities.

And we weren’t even in the Boy Scouts.

——————————————————————————————-

The curse of totalitarian governments is that they kill people for telling the truth; do that enough times, and you end up with a nation of liars” — David Von Drehle.

LOVE TO ALL.

Perhaps Ask Andrea, and post her answer in weekend column. “Andrea, on behalf of Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski, can you address the rumors that you were pulled over by a police officer in August. Were you pulled over, how many times, and when and where, and why? If you were not pulled over by the police in August, when was the last time you were pulled over, and when, where, and why?

Sincerely,

Yours truly,

Dan

Safe??? How about all of the deaths from fentanyl overdoses that results from Harrington’s failure to aggressively prosecute out of county drug traffickers? Her refusal to do her job or admit her culpability is one of the reasons she should be voted out next Tuesday.

Biden Buck$ have been used for a lot more controversial and questionable things than his bribe to young adults to vote for Democrats in the 2022 midterm elections for forgiving $10,000 to $20,000 of their student loan debts that will cost federal taxpayers between $600 billion to over $1 trillion over the next decade while doing nothing to contain the always rising cost of higher education that benefits greedy college administrators and overpaid Ivory Tower Professors who get paid to indoctrinate college students with their various academic ideologies.

Biden Buck$ went to a 4-Star hotel in Florida, renovations to a minor league park in New York State, relief funds that paid off debts for the Ted Kennedy Institute in Massachusetts, and relief funds to pay off overdue child support debts for deadbeat dads (& moms) in St. Louis, and so on. Biden Buck$ were supposed to go to saving jobs, helping those in distress, opening schools, and increasing vaccinations, but instead, they went to disastrous pork barrel spending boondoggles.

Mayor Linda Tyer’s secrecy behind her municipal administration’s spending of Pittsfield’s Biden Buck$ kept the fictional Mary Jane & Joe Kapanski family in the dark and without any tax and fee relief.

JM posts like this from you are an absolute slap in the face to the rest of us, the Kapanski’s.

First off, you do not pay taxes. This does not affect you. I’m the one with less in my paycheck, so freeloaders can escape a legally binding debt. Not you.

Second, you voted for Xiden and Harris, because Trump’s “playboy ways” and “mean tweets” offended you. No supply chain issues, no wars, gas under $2 a gallon, low inflation, stock market and pensions soaring, remember JM? Did you get offended when your Army DI’s cussed and screamed at you in basic training cupcake?

Third, I give it until the middle of September when DA Wrong Way completely blocks you on all social media. She’ll be out of a job and you’ll have completed the set, of being struck out by the Berkshires Thundering Trio:

Tricia Farley-Country Buffet (D-illegal immigrants)
Linda “Flat” Tyer
Former DA Andrea “Wrong Way” Harrington.

You’re not exactly a ladies man JM. Maybe you should consider doing a few Cumby’s patrol shifts with Barry “vigilante” Tyer? He single handedly cleaned up the Cumby’s parking lot of junkies, “houseless,” and stray dogs. He could show you a few of his vigilante ways to help with the ladies. Just trying to help.

Since the beginning of 2022, I have responded to over 1800 claims of catalytic converter theft.
I work for one company.
In the last month I’ve seen over 300 new claims come in. Over 150 new claims in Pittsfield in the last month.
The PPD will not respond anymore to most catalytic converter claims. The reports are handled by phone.

Why? So DA Wrong Way can drop the charges?

Remember, these are just POC “trying to feed their families,” according to her.

“Trying to feed their families,” is progressive speak for: legitimizing theft.

Very similar to the Berkshire Black Economic Council (BBEC) paying “consulting fees” to Shirley and Warren, is grifters speak for: legitimizing money laundering/theft

So if you were around in the 60;s you will remember it was the Democrats who were fighting against black rights. Al Gores dad, kkk byrd, lbj and the rest continued to fight against equality until they figured out they could pivot and get the political advantage for backing it when they were in control, thinking they would own the black vote for generations, which was accurate,. Unfortunately they never held up their stated view of helping the black community, they had to keep them downtrodden while blaming it on their opponents so they could count on their votes to stay in power, and so your jibberish shows it just continues even when the last President had the minorities working with higher wages and better jobs, Dems couldn’t support that

Much ado about nothing – secret documents that will provide knowledge of nature beyond the reach of all except the USA and our unalterable plans to the enemy? Not a chance. The worse that an enemy state could figure out is that we grossly overestimate their advantages, which is an advantage until tested.

To give you a little perspective on the nature of classified information, I would recommend reading Torment of Secrecy by E. Shils. Or, Moynihan’s Secrecy which is basically his extrapolation Shils’ book.

Main points:

  1. 1) is that most documents classified to confidentiality is not based on clear need. It’s routine. Even the Press Secretary’s preferred coffee brand is likely classified.
  2. 2) Classification is a byproduct of a bureacracy that can’t properly file documents
  3. 3) That which is sensitive is technology that any educated nation can study for themselves. (Pakistan ‘discovered’ that hydrogen bombs are possible, and discovered they could be made)
  4. 4) That the confidential state is very modern – post WWII, and nothing is really secret anyway.
  5. 5) Last, much of what is classified to be sensitive and secret are inaccurate briefs from ignorant CIA types who get the story wrong.
  6. 6) The overconcern over classification is obsessive and generates conspiracy theories and delusional thinking

Don’t lose sleep over it. All documents produced by the Federal Gov. will become classified if it reaches a certain desk by accident or by design.

Trump brought Putin and his “body guards” right into the Oval office for all to watch on national TV.
I am sure they were later allowed to sight see (with their cameras) and tour the defense department and nuclear agency documents at their leisure. Putin (and probably China) probably have copies of every U.S. government document published since World War Two. And Trump probably has billions of bucks in the Cayman Islands for his help.

I just don’t buy at face value the paper worth of ‘nuclear secrets, ‘ especially in a time in which there is no tactical surprise to protect. Surprise and protection of operatives is the key necessity for secrecy. The culture of secrecy for its own sake is pathological. Moynihan would argue that most secrets are overblown:

“In the era of security clearances, to be an Irish Catholic became prima facie evidence of loyalty. Harvard men were to be checked; Fordham men would do the checking..”

Note: he speaks of the ‘era of security clearance.” It’s a short era, and not a productive one in his estimation. In fact, he argues that most of those top secret classified docs that came into existence after WWII are absolutely useless and inaccurate. And exactly what nuclear secrets are laying about that are either undisclosed to enemies or technology that is beyond the reach of research and development? By treaties of mutual assured destruction, haven’t we disclosed much of our strategic worth?

I’m more concerned about their secrets, which you may agree are not secret at all. As for those that the Chinese stole – which is far more than could be found in any one president’s private abodes, the benefit to China is strictly time. They could eventually reverse engineer equipment or design their own, and the fact that they stole our schemes is proof that they were well on their last leg to doing so. They chose the easiest and cheapest route. Maybe we will steal their improvements back.

Going into work. Andrea is in an all out panic! Her events aren’t well attended, she’s just squeaking to those that already support her. The DA’s office is in full campaign mode. She’s going to make some “high profile” moves in the next week.
She’s going to announce initiatives right before the election and hint at a major crime investigation. It’s all BS, it’s for the optics.
She’s spending all her time on calls with her consultant and Andy is writing most of her campaign stuff. He helped (wrote) her ten best cases stuff. She has everyone that willing doing campaign work in the office. It’s a travesty. Your tax dollars at work.

They don’t want to talk about the gang affiliations because it would admit that there are gangs warring in Berkshire County. Almost all the gun violence in Berkshire county is gang related.

Your confusion is understandable. There are two marijuana buy murders. One of them was Laquan Johnson who Harrington whiffed on, then when he was caught with a gun he got probation and murdered again. This one is a second pot homicide. So much for legalization stopping the black market. It has grown a crimewave of us own.

Berkshire Eagle
Letter: Does Harrington believe in her staff or not?

To the editor: I watched the debate between the candidates for Berkshire district attorney on Aug. 15.
At one point, Andrea Harrington was bragging about the wonderful staff she assembled by recruiting individuals from around the state. It left me wondering why, if that is the case, she found it necessary to bring in a special prosecutor from Springfield, at taxpayer expense, to try a recent murder case in Berkshire Superior Court? (“Jury acquits J.C. Chadwell of murder in 2017 Pittsfield killing,” Eagle, June 29.)

Ms. Harrington was obviously incapable of trying the case herself because of her utter lack of trial experience, something she essentially admitted to during the debate. Was there no one else in the ranks of her wonderful staff, including her first assistant, with the experience and competence to try the case? From where I sit, Ms. Harrington’s claim about her “first-rate” staff is a bogus claim at best.

Gary Bianchi, Pittsfield

It was a mean thing to do, this forgiving student debt stuff. Just because big Pharma is allowed to screw the elderly on all their medications and oil companies pay zero tax (actually get govt. subsidies) does not mean that people who tried to better themselves by going to college should catch a break. Make the bastards pay. The little guy should always pay his share as that is the American way. MAGA

Why should the generations of responsible graduates who paid off their loans, and scores of hard working tradesmen who never incurred such debts, be forced to pay for irresponsible scofflaws who refuse to pay off their obligations?

Maybe they should have chosen a major that opened the door to a well paying career?

The other thing that stinks, is Traitor Joe’s plan forgives debt to those making up to $125,000/year. If you are making anything close to six figures you should be able to pay down your debts.

A more equitable solution would be to forgive the interest on student loans if the former student is unemployed or making less than median income.

Lastly does the Turnip even have athority to do this? It has been stated that this requires an act of Congress.

I’m trying to figure out how the Harrington camp has attacked every untied shoe observied in her opponent. Someone she’s just “above” addressing the accusations of drunk driving that have circulated for weeks. It’s public official 101 to move quickely to correct mininformation. The longer it sweats in the summer sun, the more difficult it is to correct. Typically, you correct the facts and move on. Instead there is radio silence and that as they say speaks volumes.

Dan’s advice is sometimes to not chase criticism, but this is an allegation of being let off, of a public safety crime. Therefore, I think she should address it, but she has to be directly asked, in writing, so she can’t pretend she didn’t know. Only 3 media companies have the standing to ask, on behalf of “we the people” – The Planet, The Bird Cage, and LieBerkshires. Only Dan has the steel balls to do so.

I find her timing of announcing a newfound interest in the North Adam’s disappearance concerning. Like the timing is either to show she is working big cases right before the primary or to revert attention from something else. Remember, she released the Brady list shortly after her wrong way incident. Where’s the motivation, you’ve had almost four years to relaunch this case.

Is Harrington’s office investigating the more recent drowning death of an 8-year-old child? Or is she waiting for that one to become just another cold case. Is Harrington investigating how DCF failed an 11-year-old social butterfly whose corpse was eventually found rolled up in a carpet in a Plunket Street apartment more than 5 weeks after she just disappeared from everyone’s life. Apparently, Hannah’s disappearance didn’t even pique the interest of “Youth Alive” director Shirley Edgerton.

Imagine you are gifted the job of DA, no experience, no practical office skills, no managerial skills, no ability to even find the right courthouse or trial part, what would a smart person do?They’d keep their head down, hire the smartest or most experienced people they could find, and sit back and learn the job. They’d not make waves and slowly work on things they promised. She could created a task force to look to the rape cases, headed by her, and blown two years spinning that into a pretend worthwhile endeavor.

Andrea isn’t a smart person. She made big public moves with no competency to back them up. She fired people with real experience and who knew what they were doing and replaced them with incompetent sycophants. The experts she did hire were belittled, marginalized, and eventually quit because they saw her for what she was, a narcissistic whiny brat.

All she had to do was keep her head down and not believe her own fantasy stories and press releases. Give it a term or two before her delusions of grandeur made her think she was destined for greater things.

There’s a reason Hinds checked out during this election and didn’t give Harrington fair warning, no one in the party wants Harrington near anything important. That says lots for what they think of crime in Berkshire county and Berkshire county as a whole. They were willing to give her a crack at DA, figured she’d either rise to the occasion or sink the ship… all aboard the Harrington Titanic.

We HAVE to stop the hypocrisy.

And Tim Shugrue MUST think about hiring a public relations manager. Who let him step out to The Proprietor’s Lodge campaign dinner looking like a rich, overweight, tanned white guy who was better suited for martinis at the marina than a man running for “The Highest Law Enforcement Position in the County” ?

His untucked, open collar, wrinkled shirt with the gold chain and chest hairs was gross. And no disrespect, but who is the woman in the Hampton Beach boardwalk dress he was posed with in so many pictures? Please help her too, if she’s important.

And please folks, let’s curb the WW/LPD/OUI hypocrisy. A hundred pictures of Shugrue’s campaign dinner at the Proprietor’s, and every single picture showed someone with an alcoholic beverage.

Are we gonna pretend that no one left that event and got in their car to drive home after drinking all night?

There aren’t enough Ubers in Massachusetts to cover the number of people and drinks featured in the pictures from that event.

So let’s stop, okay.

And again, someone help with the PR. A fundraiser with over 200 people where Alcohol was the featured guest, is not the best look for a guy who hopes to be “The Highest Law Enforcement Official” in the county.

Pitt Romney, do I sense some major jealousy in your post? Could it be you are actually upset because your candidate Andrea can’t draw a crowd? My thought when viewing the pictures of Tim’s event is it looked like a crowd of hard working voters that were having some fun, lately fun is not part of most voters vocabulary. Your candidate’s record adds to this lack of fun as many people feel totally unsafe going most anywhere in Berkshire County, due to her lack of prosecuting individuals that have committed a crime, and when she does try to prosecute she blows it due to her lack of experience.

Since you are condemning what Tim was wearing and others at this event, maybe you can explain the famous Andrea’s Nipples photo, why did she wear that dress, 99% of woman would realize they had an issue and cover themselves up, is she really that numb? How about explaining to us all why she did not renew her license, or pay her taxes, why she was driving the wrong way on a one way street, why she got her state owned vehicle hung up on the curbing of a local shopping center? The picture of her at the Lenox party showed a huge glass of wine in front of her, tell us why that is fine for her but folks at Tim’s party should not be drinking.

Before you throw stones at Tim you might want to take Andrea’s past inventory of issues and lack of focus on her job, maybe tell us one thing she had accomplished in her term.

Very true. If there were teenage males running around behind the scenes at the wine party, than I can understand them not inviting Gwendolyn Hampton VanSant.

Could you imagine if Gwendolyn got her meat hooks into one of those young YT males?

Those YT males would quickly gain “street cred,” hooking up with Gwen. Wine parties with the YT’s will be a thing of the past.

With Gwendolyn it’ll be like an episode of “To Catch a Predator.” Drinking liquor, smoking a few blunts, and having sex with an adult. It’s every pedophiles dream scenario.

Most end up in prison. Gwendolyn ended up financially well peddling race-baiting and grifting.

Speaking of “street cred,” and “Not invited to a backyard wine party”

A story from many years past about a prominent attorney in a mid-sized city who happened to be black. A very competent defense lawyer by any standard, lived in a very good part of town that was 99.9% white folk, including his wife, but had a perception problem “getting down with the struggle” as the black population was relatively small, and in that group all the criminality was isolated to just a few well known families, that had little to no support within their community. So up jumped a high profile case with a non-affiliated black defendant, that the aforementioned attorney took pro bono for some street creds. During jury selection he asked a juror how he felt about black people? The prospective juror, without missing a beat, replied that he had the exact feelings as the attorney. He would not marry one and did not want to live amongst them. After the laughter subsided the juror was dismissed and that question was never asked
again. …..

After Roman died, Dad joined the Army Air Corp and served in India. Dad told the story of Roman’s mother having a nightmare the night of December 6, 1941 that her son was drowning. Letter claiming Shugrue lacks experience is ill-informed
The first eight years of Shugrue’s career were spent in prosecutors’ offices, where he tried many serious and complex felonies.

BY LETTER TO THE EDITOR
POSTED ON AUGUST 31, 2022
To the editor:

Michael Mah’s recent letter to the editor demonstrates that he is seriously ill-informed about the background and experience of district attorney candidate Timothy J. Shugrue. Mah claims that most of Shugrue’s career has been spent in divorce court, not criminal court.

That is laughable. Shugrue does indeed have a significant practice in the Probate and Family Court because clients recognize his abilities and his services are very much in demand. However, the first eight years of his career were spent in prosecutors’ offices, where he tried many serious and complex felonies. For example, in 1993 he prosecuted a bus driver from Lanesborough and convicted him of raping 6-year-old children on a school bus, which resulted in two consecutive life sentences. He prosecuted many sex crimes while he was a member of the Hampden District Attorneys’s sex crimes unit. At a recent debate, Mah’s preferred candidate, Andrea Harrington, was unable to name even three important cases which she personally tried. Two months ago, she brought in a special prosecutor from Springfield to try a murder case, because she was too inept and inexperienced to try it herself. Mah’s suggestion that Shugrue lacks experience in criminal trials is ludicrous.

Mah’s argument that Shugrue was never promoted during his career as a prosecutor is equally absurd. In 1991, District Attorney Gerard Downing recruited Shugrue away from the Hampden District Attorney’s Office because he needed a talented and experienced prosecutor to handle the backlog of sexual assault cases in his office. Shugrue did an excellent job, and was on track to rise even further in the ranks before he decided to leave and open his own law practice.
Mah rather snidely suggests that his practice consists of “pleading out drunk drivers.” That claim ignores the fact that in the last 30 days, Shugrue tried and won three drunk driving cases against Harrington’s supposedly crack prosecutors. Shugrue has in recent years also tried and won far more serious cases in the Superior Court, such as an armed robbery in 2019 culminating in a not guilty verdict. That is a claim that Harrington cannot hope to make.

The contrast between these two individuals is stark, and it should be plain to any fair minded person that Shugrue is the superior candidate. Mah’s attempt to re-write history by denigrating Shugrue’s wealth of trial experience is completely off the mark.

Just do you know both Edgerton and Wright help facilitate criminal enterprises by using their position as “community leaders”. They know the grift and they know that being close to Andrea gets them inside info on when family members are going to get busted.
Sharpton, I mean Edgerton tries to pump office staff for info about investigations of her friends and family. David Green is a perfect example, gang member, thug, and snitch.

I’ve asked that question too. With all of the money (state grants and ARPA funds) that Shirley has received over the years, what has she done to better the black community and not just her ROPES program?

And what exactly is a “cultural proficiency coach?” And why is this needed in the schools? With a failing school system, think it’s about time to start cutting unneeded positions like this one.

Off topic, but what ingenious asshat decided a CURB BUMPOUT at the corner of Pomeroy and East Street was a good idea?

Not only does this impede right hand turns onto East St. from Pomeroy, but it is going to further jam up what it already an incredibly jammed block of traffic during the school year. It turned what was essentially three lanes into two.

Of all the stupid traffics ideas in Pittsfield, this is probably the most dangerous considering the amount of pedestrians and cars trying to navigate that intersection at the same time. This stupid idea just made it 100x harder for cars parked in front of PHS to merge onto East Street. Get ready for the onslaught of fender benders and pedestrian/car collisions.

The worst bumpout is on Elm St near East, as you navigate the curve in the road. Anyone heading north on Elm faces a narrowing of the street due to the bumpout and congestion as those trying to exit left off Elm onto side streets snarl up traffic.
Didn’t anyone study the traffic flow on these streets?
The Tyer administration has destroyed not only North St but Tyler & Elm. And those Mill Town Capital apartments on Tyler are butt ugly! That style of architecture (or lack of) would fit best next door to the equally butt ugly BIC building.

Study the traffic flow? Why Lenny? Do you not share that same excitement Flat Tyer did when she announced the hiring of Ricky Rumpus in the Eagle puff-piece a few years ago?

No talk about his training, DPW experience, or the number of years he has managed a city’s roadway systems and numerous DPW employees. Nope, just the mayor glowing about Ricky being Pittsfield’s first person of color to lead the DPW.

Besides, if that grant money isn’t used up, the Tyer’s won’t get an extra birthday card that year. Or the Christmas cards they receive won’t need extra postage, because they’ll be lighter than normal.

There is also no PPD Police log from yesterday. There was three other days in August with no PPD police log report. Wonder what Flat Tyer and Mikey Wynn are hiding on those days? It is already well-known that the police officers have been instructed to edit the log as to what the real crime is, these officers have been supplied with a cheat sheet to log calls to hide crime. Tyer and Wynn really do feel we are all ignorant and totally unaware of the constant out of control crime in “VD Pittsfield”. Everything is rosy in their elite lives. Wouldn’t it be great if just one elected useless City Councilor would confront Tyer and Wynn on these lies! Oh, wait a minute they all live in that same rosy elite life.

I am beginning to think Tyer is suffering from severe paranoia. Her reputation as a city leader is in the dumpster (right near the bottom right hand corner) and she does not realize it makes it even worse when she tries to hide bad stuff and it leaks out anyway.

Berkshire DA Andrea Harrington said none of these allegations have been reported to her office since she was sworn in this year. She said that even if the statute of limitations ran out, it’s valuable to establish a factual record, and to make sure victims receive help.

“Think about hiring a public relations manager”
It’s funny how the DA’s office never required PR in 50 years until Andrea Harrington came along. Fred Lantz used to handle the media by putting out coherent non-spin press releases and getting back to everyone equally without shutting out the Berkshire Eagle or refusing to speak to anyone. The Shugrue campaign seems to have a lot of letters of support from people with a clear reason to be writing to the newspaper. Meanwhile the Harrington support letters are signed by random people and reek of “messages.” Now Shugue apparently needs a PR firm to tell him how to dress and create “optics.” A more democratic and honest use of public time and money would come from electing someone to do the job of the prosecuter competently and without photo ops and public outrage over cases dropped, lost or ethicallly tainted. Then we can stop paying PR firms to cover up the mess.

Letter: Out-of-county endorsements don’t mean much in Berkshire DA raceTo the editor: It’s obvious that Elizabeth Warren and Maura Healey have no clue …

To the editor: I am a Berkshire progressive.
I admire Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Attorney General Maura Healey and U.S Rep. Jamie Raskin — and I respectfully but adamantly disagree with their endorsement of Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington.
I ask these three: Before you endorsed her, did you inquire:
Why she brought an indictment of two foster parents that was so badly flawed that Judge Agostini dismissed it by saying this was “not the standard of conduct the court expects from the Commonwealth in grand jury proceedings”?
Why she sought, unsuccessfully, to bar highly regarded Judge Jennifer Tyne from hearing criminal cases in Berkshire County simply because she disagreed with some of Judge Tyne’s decisions?
Why she pays lawyers from outside Berkshire County to try cases that the District Attorney’s Office should be trying?
Why Jeanne Kempthorne, a progressive, resigned her employment rather than comply with an illegal instruction on public records from Harrington?
Why Berkshire County progressives like Sherwood Guernsey and Judy Knight support Tim Shugrue?
Why former federal prosecutor John Pucci, who supported Harrington in 2018, has publicly announced he no longer supports her, writing that she has “undermined the public’s trust in our criminal justice system to no good end”?
How Berkshire store owners feel about the district attorney’s refusal to bring charges against those who shoplift from their stores?
Why Harrington publicly supported the Baltimore city prosecutor who has been indicted?
Why Harrington removed the community engagement program from our schools?
Why Harrington has dramatically increased the use of dangerousness hearings to detain people pretrial?
Of course you didn’t. Those of us who admire you expect better of you. I have seen our community suffer from this district attorney’s poor performance. She is giving progressives a bad name.
I support Tim Shugrue because I know from his record as a prosecutor and defense lawyer and his contributions to our community like The Kids’ Place that he can deliver both effective law enforcement and criminal justice reform. Had you given him the courtesy of even a brief conversation, you would have known that, too.

Just when you think the powers that be can’t be any more out of touch!
What’s next Harrington getting top litigator in MA?

Helen Moon, a 2013 graduate of Berkshire Community College, has been named the first recipient of the Daniel Dillon ’62 Heart of Service Alumni Award.

The award was created in remembrance of Dillon, a 1962 BCC graduate who was a pillar of community service. He died in January 2021 after a battle with COVID-19.

BCC and the BCC Alumni Association board, together with Dillon’s family, created the annual award to honor a BCC alum who shows dedication to and makes an impact on the community through service to others. The recipient must demonstrate volunteer and professional engagement as a means of making Berkshire County a more equitable and inclusive place for all.

Moon, 39, recently served as a Pittsfield city councilor — the first immigrant and Asian American councilor elected in the city. She is critical care nurse at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington and the development and communications coordinator at the Elizabeth Freeman Center. She earned her associate degree in nursing from BCC and a bachelor’s degree from Elms College.

Moon spends 40-50 hours per month volunteering and serving on several boards of nonprofit organizations including Berkshire Immigrant Center, Progressive Massachusetts, the local chapter of the NAACP, Berkshire Brigades, and the Democratic State Committee.

Moon was nominated by Kelan O’Brien, alumni fund development officer for communications and student engagement at Williams College and former chairman of Berkshire Pride.

It makes me wonder if the Dillion family knew that Helen “Handgun” Moon, is a dishonest person and lacks integrity? Helen Moon posted a lie about being arrested by two white Boston cops at gunpoint and jailed, simply for being an Asian female just driving along. She posted this lie on her Facebook page.

This lie occurred during the George Floyd “peaceful protests,” when cities were burned to the ground. Moon decided to get in on the action and posted that lie. Moon was a huge advocate for defunding the Pittsfield Police. Could you image if that had gone through….

Moon failed to realize that being arrested and jailed creates a police incident number and/or arrest report number. She was immediately called out on this. Many requested Moon provide the case number. Moon deleted the post and blamed The Planet as a “right wing blog” spreading lies. Where have we heard that lately?

Not to mention the award is from BCC, where she got her RN degree. She left that job (RN) to become an unqualified officer manager for DA Wrong Way’s Office, according to Jeanne Kempthorne. She failed at that job, quit, and was paid off to keep quiet. That just screams integrity.

She has posted racial and derogatory terms on social media, such as “YT.” I take the same offense to that, as she does if I called her an “eggroll.” It works both ways.

Good choice Dillion family. Your families award isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on with Helen “Handgun” Moon, as your first award winner.

The Progressive Boston City Councillor that Sen. Warren endorsed for Suffolk DA just got stripped of his city councilor role. How is it “progressive” that the only endorsement he lost was Joe Kennedy’s? Michelle Wu, Elizabeth Warren, Ayanna Pressley, Ed Markey, and all the others stood by him. How is their continued endorsement of this alleged sexual deviant not going backward to a time when women were the playgrounds of politicians?

Every city and town should pass a town bylaw or ordinance for pan handing. 1st need to get a permit which would include a yearly fee, finger printing, back ground checks, a picture Id that must be worn at all times while your out pan handling. If you are found with out any of these you are arrested and put through the system which many of these already I am sure as been. They are given the chance with education, training, any substance abuse or mental health counseling and assisted with securing a job and housing if need be.

The city could stop this lickety split like if they wanted to. Pay a cop to hang out with the bums until they leave. When the pop up elsewhere, lather, rinse, repeat. This, and a mayor with the balls enough to tell everyone not to give them a nickel, publicly, and on city website, would do it. The biggest problem with Pittsfield the past 30 years, had not been money, it has been the will to do the right thing. Now, the city has become a full fledged shithole.
