PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, MONDAY JAN. 9, 2023) — More short bites, since there’s so much to report. First, a housekeeping note.

THE PLANET thanks all who have responded to our questions about ads v. subscription. We are still asking for feedback on this question so that we can make the best decision. As for the comments sections, for now we shall keep it as is while again asking ALL who post to avoid the nonsense. You know what we mean. Say something, keep it in good taste, and avoid undermining yourself with stupidity. Everything else is welcome. We did make one change with our Army of Robots (AOR). The AOR shall be on the lookout for “string posting.” That’s when one person sends a bunch of comments all at once. More than four at once triggers an alert. We’ve seen as many as 16. When that happens, the AOR will delete some, most, or all of them, based on the programming. The algorithm also allows for human override. The best solution is for everyone to be cool and intelligent. Exchange arguments, not ignorance.

QUICK HITZ AND HOT LIX

WHAT A CROC — We speak of the alleged “Rally fo Democracy” in Park Square conducted Saturday by “the usual suspects.” The long gray line included Shirley Edgerton, doctor of griftology. Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. That name tells you all you need to know. According to THE PLANET‘s spies that attended, “Dr.” Shirley’s preached to the naive chorus about “racism, white supremacy, critical race theory, wokeism, voter suppression, and climate change, and Donald Trump.” We wonder: Does Shirl and the Berkshire Black Economic Council plan another legal hold-up of public monies for doing not a G.D. thing but enriching their own pockets? Fortunately, the event was a FLOP-ER-OOO, with a mere handful attending. There were two speakers, “Dr.” Shirl and state rep. Tricia. According to one of our Z-Agents, the two women “were full of energy, like batteries, except that batteries have a positive side.” Touche!

MARK ON THE MARK — Then there’s this comment from Markus Aurelius: “There is no real, legitimate, reason why Shirley gets the money. The only reason she does is because of the color of her skin. [ED NOTE: Mark refers to the million-plus handout in ARPA money; incidentally, the city has $37 million more to give away. There has been no honest public accounting of that money]. She is a race hustler who fools older, white snowflakes with scary terms like ‘racism’ and ‘white privilege.’ In addition to her Africa trip, she’s also used taxpayer money to “recruit” black teachers in NC for PPS. The net result of teachers recruited from that trip? The same as Blutarski’s GPA: zero point zero.”

NO BIZ LIKE SNOW BIZ — The fire of anger still blazes among the citizenry over Pittsfield’s snow incompetence. People are still fuming over the lack of safe roads during the Christmas storm. THE PLANET thanks city councilor Charles Kronick and council prez Peter Marchetti [see next item] for supplying us with their comments. No one other councilor chose to follow suit.

KROL, MARCHETTI BLAST CITY MANAGEMENT — Meanwhile, presumed mayoral hopefuls John Krol and Marchetti blasted the city for the poor job. Krol told THE PLANET the plow jockeys are mismanaged, adding, “Based on what I have learned, there is no question that this incident could and should have been avoided. I hope our community can avoid cognitive dissonance on this issue and stick to the facts, and acknowledge that this was completely unacceptable. As mayor, it is critical to put the right people in the right positions. When it comes to managing public services, it is essential that we have individuals with experience and expertise making the decisions. It is the mayor’s role to ensure we have those pieces in place. Ultimately, this is the mayor’s responsibility and it is the mayor who needs to be held accountable.” Council president told THE PLANET, “The roads were horrible.  It is the reason that I submitted a petition looking for a report. We have discussed with the commissioner what we would like to see.  The items include times and GPS for workers and sand and salt
Amounts used and when. I also want to ensure that this does not happen again.”

D.A. DOINGS — One of our commentators asked a great question, wondering if new D.A. Tim Shugrue would consider making public the Simon’s Rock race hoax. That’s where a female black student claimed to be assaulted by a white man. Police investigation proves the claims false. No harm, no foul, however, as the previous D.A. made the embarrassing case disappear. Shugrue has a chance to make the documents public. This would help establish his pledge that justice and the law apply to All, EQUALLY. On another score, Shugrue’s early order of business is getting staffed, always a great test of leadership. Good managers have a set of resources and apply them smartly, putting the right people in the rights jobs. Bad managers take the same resources and waste them. From the previous administration, we know what happens when you put toadies and incompetents in jobs they can’t handle. Great managers aren’t afraid to have on the team people who know more they they do. Awful managers want suck-ups and capitulation in their underlings.

SPEAK UP — We The People finally have a speaker of the House. Kevin McCarthy had to work his tail off, but he finally got the gavel. Let’s see. We have a Dem Senate and Oval Office with a GOP House. One leans tipsy left, the other right. Let’s see how that works out for America as we inch our way closer to another presidential election.

BLIND MAN’S FLUFF — The Commonwealth stole you blind last year. Did you know that state tax collectors raked $3.838 billion in December? Halfway through the fiscal year, exceeds budgetary anticipation by more than $1 billion. Moreover, Massachusetts has an overall $5 billion budget surplus, with another $7 billion in the slush fund known as “rainy day.” We The Taxpayers: Suckers ripe for the pickin’.

The cough cough Rally for Democracy had 10 people Friday. 10. of course you cannot tell from the picture since it was taken at an angle where that could not be proven. What a joke. Question is will this be the last year of the beagle.

Tricia Farley Bouvier spent her first decade in Boston accomplishing and doing nothing whatsoever. Her first legislative accomplishment is her legislation giving undocumented “illegal” immigrants Massachusetts Driver’s Licenses. She was a major force behind the Berkshire Museum selling its historic artwork, including two paintings donated by Norman Rockwell himself, for tens of millions of dollars. She voted for the controversial 40% 2017 state legislators’ own pay raise that cost state taxpayers over $18 million. She voted for casino gambling, which is really (voluntary) regressive taxation, while the state is sitting over well over $7 billion instead of helping the underclass, working class and middle-class families in Massachusetts. She backed the new Taconic High School without a referendum to allow the people and taxpayers of Pittsfield to weigh in on the municipal tax increase it caused. She sent her own children to the Lenox public school district, despite her representing Pittsfield in Boston. She wrote op-eds in Boston and Pittsfield newspapers arguing for increasing state taxes to fully fund public services and education without mentioning that Beacon Hill lawmakers always giveaway a little less than $18 billion per fiscal year in state tax breaks to big businesses in and around Boston that don’t exist in Western Massachusetts. Despite her 2011 candidate promise to support Sunshine Laws on Beacon Hill, she has voted against them ever since. She is called Tricia “Country Buffet” because she went nuts after the Old Country Buffet closed in Pittsfield.

So blame the plow jockeys for the road plowing. If you ask me Krol nor Marchetti are neither qualified or have the hutzpuh to be a mayor. In Marchetti or Krol you get the same results as the last seven years, and retreads that will retain the puppet administrative workers

Krol left Dodge in a mess politically, and came back the same way. Marchetti certainly is not the answer either. We need a Manager or a person that is not Antiquated politically. Why the Planet even mentions these two for opinions is curious,do you have interest in either of these two?

As far as nonsense on here especially name calling, you have had six years of this that You’ let go,you know who these people were,,it’s your blog. This appllies to string posting also the in previous years. I will abide,or just won’t post as often. But again Krol or Marchetti opinion? On roads? Shouldn’t it be the current Mayor or DPW Commsioners.

With 2 candidates in the race for mayor – I will support Marchetti. Marchetti has a solid job track record, responds to inquiries, well acquainted with city government, and has strong leadership capabilities. He is a problem solver and accountable.

Krol couldn’t manage his way out of a paper bag. Krol has been unable to hold a steady job, couldn’t manage his own family, has been a strong supporter of incompetent Andrea Harrington, and has no clue about finances – big spender! The city would be in worse shape than it is now!

Unfortunately, Lenny with those two as the choices, it’s like being asked which way you want to die? Be eaten alive by tigers or set on fire alive. Both options suck.

I’m hoping another dark horse candidate will emerge. Sir Chaz maybe?

I do agree about Krol and his pathetic work history. That guy has bounced from one decent job to the next. He never seems to last more than a couple of years at any job, before the greener pastures start calling his name.

The problem with department heads and Mayors is that it takes a whole lot of work, patience and determination to find and bring in qualified candidates capable of doing a good job. Ask any business owner who had to replace a very skilled position. So mayors just look for the easiest and quickest solution, which is usually someone already on the payroll or someone who held the position in the past. Ironically, that’s the same problem taxpayers are having finding a qualified candidate for mayor. And so far, None have surfaced. The problem is anyone smart enough to be a good mayor, is too smart to want the job in such a poisonous political environment.

Councilor Marchetti’s request for GPS data came weeks after Councilor Kalinowski requested that data from the Commissioner a few days after the storm. She had in fact asked for GPS and salt usage to cover several days. The Commissioner has yet to respond.

Who get credit for the request?

I hear the Morales report to the city council has been delayed to the Jan. 24th meeting. I smell a coverup. Where’s the mayor? I heard she will not be at the Jan. 10th meeting. No one wants to be accountable for the plowing epic fail.

Maybe the mayor and her wife, Dirty Barry, are using some of their ARPA money to “explore the slopes” in CO?

Dr. Shirley Edgerton, PhD-SCAM, paved the way for this fraudulent use of ARPA money. Shirley did go to another continent to “explore her roots.”

So she is still the title holder in swindling and defrauding hardworking taxpayers and their money with horsesh!t “causes” and reasons.

Name me three college graduates of recent years from her ROPES teachings. She’s received close to, if not over, $1,000,000 of taxpayer handouts for that ROPES class. Let see some results.

Or even one black North Carolina teacher she recruited on that taxpayer paid “recruiting” junket.

It should not be that complicated. Many moons ago I used to plow for the city and we had this scenario many times. It was an almost all city worker crew. And it always got done with everyone out there busting their asses. Taxes are now 20 times what they were then.
Not sure how they plan to spin this but if they start by saying they had crews out busting their asses you will know it is all going to be a lie fest. A 2nd Alarm truck made one quick pass on my road early on and never came again till two days later when they made one more quick pass. Many, many others have said they did not or hardly seen any evidence of plows, including the police. If they are now lining up people who will say they saw lots of plows I would make them repeat it with a hand on a bible. Maybe the mayor will try to blame global warming because obviously there had never been a weather pattern like this in Berkshire county before. Make that Pittsfield because surrounding towns seem to have been able to handle it.

Apparently this one came in with a Rubiks Cube manifestation and even with You-tubes help the city could not decipher its intricacies. No one even thought to do a robo call warning people of dangerous road conditions. They will do a robo call to tell you not to park on the road but not if it is a death trap scenario.

But I sure hope no one plays the blame game and tries to find out what went sideways. The buck stops with no one in Pittsfield.

Who wouldn’t want to serve a few 4-year terms as Mayor of Pittsfield? Linda Tyer’s future public pension plus perks will be around $100,000 per year for life. Not bad for a former public-school secretary who found success in Pittsfield politics. The cherry on top is her multimillionaire CPA husband Barry Clairmont’s Gated Community lifestyle. Peter Marchetti & John Krol both hope to follow in the Lovely Linda’s footsteps. Former Governor Charlie Baker is making $3 million per year – $60,000 per week – to watch college athletes play sports, which is on top of his 6-figure public pension plus perks. Meanwhile, the minimum wage in Massachusetts is $15 per hour for the working class.

Pittsfielders please show up at the City Council meeting tonight at 6 pm, City Hall to support Charles Kronick’s item 17 which stops any further DPW expenditures before the Jan. 24th Morales report is made public. What I want to know is were there limits on overtime or double time work by the DPW during the storm over Christmas weekend?(I didn’t see any city plows working from Sat. to Monday) Where was the mayor and why didn’t she call out the troops to work on the snow covered roads? If she was out of town, who was in charge? Is the DPW short on human resources? Is the DPW out of salt? Lots of facts that need to be made public.

Also, the mayor wants to give more Economic Development money, $250,000 to a private business that has already received $140,000 and TIF from the city. Tell the councilors to vote no to item #8.

Get your butts out of your lounge chairs and support the few sane councilors that we have on the council. Sign up early to speak at the open mike. Only takes 1-3 minutes as there is a 3 minute time limit.

Understand what you are saying Charles about people voicing their issues tonight. Yet the Mayor states she has a conflict tonight and to quote Morales in the Eagle today “I’m not going to be there tonight, I don’t have any reason to be there”, even though there are 3 petitions that involve his department. Bottom line, the very two people responsible for this holiday snow removal cluster F will be absent tonight. Did Mama Linda tell boy toy Morales that he has to stay home tonight? The Mayor and one of her department heads are once again avoiding the taxpayers of Pittsfield. Also, is it true that you are one of the councilors did not speak with him? Did he really reach out to you?

They sent a form to sign up. I choose a date and time but they did not confirm it. That’s on them.

I regret missing being in the same room as Persip and Marchetti and listening to them brainstorm a strategy. I heard that was quite amusing.

Also, the writer of that Eagle article has serious reading comprehension issues, or could even be (bless me!) a prevaricator of news. I am not punishing the department, I am faulting the Mayor for ineptitude and resisting the purchase of magnesium contracts. That’s the gist of it.

Secondly, the Council is voting on these petitions tonight, not the Mayor or Morales. I don’t care whether the Mayor or Morales are there or not – residents of the city have an opportunity to stop the crazy spending by voicing their objections to some of these ridiculous petitions.

Why spend 2 million dollars on DPW equipment when the FACTS from the snow removal failure have not yet been made public?

Why should the city fork over $250,000 to EMA, a Lakewood Colorado company that has already received cash & perks from Pittsfield?

But I digress, RicarDODO MoralASS cannot be blamed for Pittsfield’s GREAT BLIZZARD of 2022. It’s not his fault that 35 municipal employees PLUS another 10 to 12 contracted HEAVY-DUTY TRUCKS equipped with HEAVY DUTY STEEL MONSTER PLOWS and sanders ALL ON 12 HOUR SHIFTS for 1300 PLUS HOURS billed to the taxpayers couldn’t tackle Pittsfield’s GREAT BLIZZARD of 2022 that buried Pittsfield under 2 inches of wet snow. It’s obvious that Pittsfield mayor tyer and the right honorable city council headed by Peter Marchetti should have declared Martial Law on the taxpayers/citizens of Pittsfield ordering them not to leave their homes during the GREAT BLIZZARD that dumped 2 in. snow of wet snow on Pittsfield, MASSACHUSETTS. But why stop there, taxpayers/citizens should be threatening with arrest if they leave their driveways during times of rain, sleet or dark of night, or even when the sun is shining brightly. The 90 PLUS accidents can ALL BE BLAMED on driver error and wrong-headed lawless taxpayers who religiously pay their outrageous taxes and expect safe roads.

I remember a Boris Karloff thriller about a monkeys paw that granted three wishes. A farmer and his wife had a son killed when he was caught in a threshing machine while working in the fields. . They used their third wish to have their son alive again. Later that night there was a knock on the door. And lo and behold it was their son…standing there before them alive.
The down side was that he had been in his grave for some time and had suffered a mangled body in the accident. And that is how he appeared before them.

True dat…be careful what you wish for.

If you read iberkshires Pittsfield Snow Removal Methods Questioned After Storm /Thursday, December 29, 2022

Pittsfield successfully fought the Great Blizzard of 2022 that buried Pittsfield under 2 inches of snow.

Juxtaposed to the Great Blizzard of 1888, which dropped more than 4 feet of snow with drifts of 15 to 20 feet deep and took only a fraction of the time to dig out from under by real men armed only with snow shovels, the Great 2 INCH Blizzard of 2022 was fought by 35 trucks active for 12-hour shifts in addition to 10 to 20 contractors armed with big plow trucks during and after the GREAT BLIZZARD of 2022. The blizzard fighters clocked in at least 700 hours of contract time and another 600 of highway crews’ time clearing the 2 inches of snow that Pittsfield was buried under.

Excellent post. Since one has money matters clearing snow I thought that the state helped out with funding. She doesn’t seem to worry about throwing arpa and Covid money out the window.

The blizzard 12.23 was so thick I had to tie a rope around my waist to the front door going to the car. By the time I found my way back, cold, wet, hoarse the snow went all the way up to the first floor.

Back to the reality – what storm happened on 12.23? 3 inches in a day.

Don’t forget the real storm mid-Dec. which left the main thoroughfares a mess with 8 inches of snow – which took forever for the DPW to clear. Neighboring towns got the job done quickly! Pittsfield, not so much.

Puppets in and puppets out. Pittsfield has Russian doll grifter puppet syndrome. And it is incurable. Get out if you can.

The tide might be turning in political connected buffoons called PUPPPETS. VOTE OUT…Guiel-Lampiasi….Persip……White……Conant…..KAVEY…..Marchetti……Krol……Dan. Please don’t represent these two BUFFOONS especially. Send The DPW director packing and send Tyer back to secretarial school where she belongs.

If these candidates are allowed back. Pittsfield will not exist. It will be San Francisco East. The speeding and driving here sucks anyway.

I was thinking of asking if we offered him a TIF. Argument goes: If you give a TIF, ypu forgo taxes not currently getting, but may get them later. If you don’t offer – you get none. Therefore, TIFS are good business.

Now Biden found with classified documents when he was just a VP and had no authority to declassify them. Media praising Joe to the heavens by saying he passed them in right away when they found them, yeah, after 6 years. They were in a very unsecure place, an educational building. Trump had his under supervision of the Secret Service at Mara Lago. Should they be raiding Jill’s closets to see if Joe is hiding more documents that he didn’t have the authority to declassify?

Everybody does it, but Trump needed to be raided? Total hypocrisy. No, not everybody does it especially when they don’t have the authority to declassify documents. Only the president has that authority and Joe wasn’t the president 6 years ago.

Anyone have any idea why Mr. Maffuccio has been absent from so many council meetings now? Hopefully nothing serious but, it seems unfair to the people of his ward not to have a voice during city council meetings.

Is it possible that the city is worried about multiple lawsuits due to negligence regarding the renegade snowstorm that apparently caught them by surprise? And is it possible that their legal team cooking up a well worded response is why this is taking so long?
If not, the reason this is taking so long, is as interesting a question as why nobody was available to work that day.

Dan,
Count me in if Planet goes to paid subscription. The Planet is a great daily read for pertinent community issues and, quite often, a good laugh when discussion turns to community leaders. Missed it past 2 months and am pleased it has returned.
