PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY JAN. 11, 2023) — We are a week and a half into 2023, months before candidates pull papers, and already we have folks making up their minds. THE PLANET doesn’t criticize in mentioning this. We’re only pointing out a neutral observation. With respect to John Krol and Peter Marchetti, the first saying flat-out that he’s running for mayor and the second strongly presumed to declare for that office, at this point THE PLANET has the mind fully open, the blackboard wiped clean, and the erasers clapped.

Granted, both come with baggage from their previous (for Krol) and current (for Marchetti) pubic service. This provides the temptation to condemn both before the shebang gets started. We totally get that, especially in light of the seething anger lurking just beneath the surface and in some cases bobbing up for air. These two guys can serve as convenient punching bags.

Might we suggest a more cool-headed approach?

THE PLANET will face this year’s races as we do and as we have always done, which is, at this early phase, to withhold value judgments. The past is over, and yes, we do know the famous Santayana dictum that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. In making premature judgments, though, one must base major premises on previous events and outcomes. When applied to future events, all of the prognosticators’ prognoses prove speculative at best. History resides in the past. It can only be brought to pseudo-life in its dead form, sort of like exhuming a cadaver.

Krol has never run for mayor, so we have no track history with that. He served Ward 6 for a number of years, but that was a number of years ago. Few know the true story of his personal situation and the challenges he has had to endure and overcome. He says he’s a different man. Eleven days into the New Year, THE PLANET takes him at his word. You should too. Let the race itself prove or disprove.

We have a better read on Marchetti. He ran against Dan Bianchi and lost, narrowly. Pete made many mistakes in what was a winnable contest. Did he learn from them? If he makes another bid for the corner office, then and only then we shall know. Presently, he’s council president. Only in that role can be make more informed evaluations.

———- ooo ———-

Speaking of the council and other key members of city government, THE PLANET offers these one-line sketches:

  • Ward 1, Ken Warren: Don’t ask, don’t tell. Is he in or is he out? Up or down? Over or under? Around or through? Only he knows, and he hasn’t declared.
  • Ward 2, Charles Kronick: Sir Chaz has emerged as a rising star. He’s the only one serving in the proper councilar role, that of checks-and-balances.
  • Ward 3, Kevin Sherman: Almost as soon as he got in, he’s regretted his decision. He won’t be up for re-election. Heart just isn’t in it.
  • Ward 4, Jim Conant: He’s been mostly an observer. Observation has its place, but so does initiative and declaration.
  • Ward 5: Pat Kavey: When a hot issue comes before the group, he books faster than Sgt. Joe Friday. Wants to please everyone, which can’t be done.
  • Ward 6: Dina Lampiasi: How long will she last with D.A. Tim Shugrue? As councilor, she’s hurt more than a helped. Constituents have no representation.
  • Ward 7: Tony Maffuccio: Showing signs of burnout. Heart is in the right place, but has the current Administation’s dysfunctions worn him down?
  • A.L. 1: Marchetti. His actions bear close scrutiny. If he’s running for mayor, will he “play ball” or chart his own destiny? Lots rides on that question.
  • A.L. 2: Peter White. Represents all that’s wrong about city government. Incompetent, weak, sycophantic, and lives in another dimension. Action heroes.
  • A.L. 3: Earl Persip. If he drop the race card and other “Edgertons,” he could be effective and strong, a force even. If he stays the course, forget it.
  • A.L. 4: Karen Kalinowsky. Her first term revealed a hard worker, shows up prepared. More seasoning should help smooth the jagged edges.
  • Mayor: Linda Tyer. One need not recount her “no-show-isms.” Just look at the most recent snow storm. She hasn’t said peep about that disaster. Wow.
  • Finance: Matt Kerwood. Hunting for his next public sector job. He and Marchetti are not speaking, and Krol knows what’s going on in that department.
  • Schools: Joe Curtis. The public school system’s dysfunctions have overwhelmed him. He’s building a pension, collecting his $200K, and little else.
  • School Committee: The usual gang of idiots. Quality and performance keep plummeting, the budget keeps rising, and all is “vibrant and dynamic.”
  • School Finance: Kristen Behnke. This overstaffed, underperforming, and redundant office has one job — keep up the money scam.
  • Police: Mike Wynn. One more year and he’s pff to cash in and out. The PPD is split and leaderless. You can’t play favorites and drive max performance.
  • Public Works: Ricardo Morales. The Christmas Snow Storm. Nuff Ced.

Should prove to be a most interesting 2023.

I love it when Dan Valenti writes about Pittsfield politics! Charles Ivar Kronick deserves to be reelected in 2023. I miss Chris Connell on the City Council. Lastly, what happened to Jimmy Ruberto’s Rolodex?

Since you are obviously a Krol love dog based on his past sports abilities, I get that.
He was a pretty boy Floyd during his councilor years, a liberal progressive spender, sketchy unstable work history and a skirt chaser. Never questioned spending by the administration. Pittsfield needs councilors looking out for the taxpayers. Smooth talker but that’s all Krol brought to the table. Has “endured and overcome personal challenges?”
Welcome to the real world Krol. We all have challenges to overcome.

In discussions with family members, the verdict has been that the city needs a fiscally conservative businessman with either experience running a business or running a sector of a large business. Communication, human relations and political knowhow are required skills. Problem solving and accountability are high on the list of qualifications.

There, I’ve written the job description for Mayor of Pittsfield. Surely someone fits the bill better than the 2 declared contenders.

I think both of these two guys are terrible choices for mayor. If I had to choose, I’d begrudgingly take Marchetti over Krol. They are both lapdogs for Rolodex Ruberto. Krol is Ruberto’s Golden Retriever and Marchetti is his Basset Hound.

In the last city election, Krol stuck his toes in to test the Pittsfield political waters. His tail-chasing past almost caused those toes to be bit off. This tells me to things he is weak, and he is untrustworthy.

A true leader with a backbone would plunge right into those waters and deal with his/her past mistakes head-on. You’re going to have to deal with it one day, why not immediately? Not tiptoe around and hope they go away. This shows me that Krol doesn’t have a backbone when tough decisions need to be made. Such as not hiring guys like Ricky Rumpus and putting them in charge of a department, simply because he checks a couple of “woke boxes,” and nothing else. 69 collisions in less than 72 hours proves that.

Do we want more of what’s currently happening? Another weak, tax and spend mayor, like Flat Tyer? If so, Krol is your guy. Seek out the photo of them in a reclining seat at the Beacon Cinema a few years ago as a reminder.

I refuse to vote for the lesser evil of these two abominations. Evil is EVIL! I will forfeit my vote rather than be complicit in this crime against taxpayers.

And as to the number of collisions in less than 72 hours during the Great Blizzard of 2022 which dumped a whole BIG MAN-SIZED TWO INCHES of wet snow on Pittsfield, the story in iberkshires puts the number at 90-PLUS accidents/collisions “according to the Pittsfield Police Department dispatch log” in less than 72 hours. Also noteworthy is the fact that the overpaid and underworked PPD Captain Thomas Dawley was irrefutably beyond any reasonable doubt overpaid to say this “Out of those 90-plus accidents, it is unknown as to whether or not the causes were due to road conditions and /or if weather related.” On the bright side Pittsfield taxpayers are only paying Captain Dawley roughly $150,000 to $170,000-plus a year for these professional nuggets of wisdom.

It shows you how much the police fear speaking out against Flat Tyer.

Capt Dawley should have simply said something like, “I’ve never seen anything like this in my XX years on the job (police). As far as the conditions of the roads, I think the number of collisions speaks for that. But the roads are handled by Ricky Rumpus, so you’d have to direct your questions about the roads for him.”

It’s says it all and dumps the roads sh!tpile on Rumpus’ lap where it belongs.

An honest cop wouldn’t have exposed his slow-wittedness for all to see with that ignorance statement. But while honest cops are far and few between, there’s no shortage of dishonest slow-witted ignorant cops. I only hope his ignorance is included in the $170,000-plus taxpayers pay him and not an incentive that comes with a premium.

And then there’s this from the office of equality and diversity in Beautiful Pittsfield:

“I’ve never in 36 years seen this amount of METH,” says Berkshire DA. January 12, 2023

A diverse citizen from the Dominican Republic was arrested on multiple drug charges METH, Heroin, Cocaine and OVER $6000 in cash in Pittsfield on Tuesday. This diverse asset to equitable and inclusive Pittsfield is being held on a $100,000 bail due to a recent history of providing different addresses to the court since November in relation to his pending domestic assault charges on a minor and also being a flight risk. How much OVER $6000 is anyone’s guess after the cops get through counting this untraceable undetermined amount of CASH.

Asking taxpayers to wipe the slate clean and go in with an open mind is unfair to the taxpayers. It’s unfair to expect the taxpayers to forget Marchetti and Krol’s consistently sordid unsavory history. Neither one of them have been sincere honest fiduciary stewards of the taxpayer’s money. Marchetti and Krol epitomize the past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior doctrine. You can also file both of them under Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It’s absolutely dangerous to give either one of those tyrants any more power.

And if you are even thinking about public service – run for Pete White’s at-large seat! A plum job compared to ward councilor. You won’t get calls from residents asking you to pick up dead coyote carcasses! White keeps the seat warm but that’s about it.

Great job Charles on attending last night’s council meeting well prepared. You were the only one armed with info about the Christmas snowmageddon. Good points & visual about the DPW’s failure to anticipate the storm, and the lack of a code red response by the mayor. Wondering if Pete White had been left in charge of the city over Christmas weekend – as he stated he should probably have phoned in a code red and then didn’t. It’s possible Tyer & Marchetti were both out of town. But no one is discussing that! No one wants to be held accountable.

I thought Persip the wide load diva was gonna have a meltdown over your petition. You are correct in believing that the storm shouldn’t be an excuse to spend money. For Persip to level the charge of “political maneuvering” at you was uncalled for, but your response was spot on. Thank you for your outstanding effort at protecting the taxpayers from excessive spending before the details of “what went wrong” come out!

Oh, I think the tax title theft is a bigger issue all in all. I hope that people watching the conversation with Dir. Kerwood will come away understanding the inherent problem with MGL and tax liens. You think you own your home? You don’t. If you miss a payment, the City can simply seize it with no compensation and give it to someone else. Your only protection is a City Council that adheres to the Baystate adage, ‘your house is your castle.’

As for the question in which fashion shall we dispose of your petition, I think too fast. I should have thought harder and said, “I want this petition as written, printed 24″x36” word for word, and have it gorilla taped to the Mayor’s door until 6/20/23.

There was a guy that owned big property out in West Pittsfield that did not pay his taxes for 30 years or so. But he was connected and so not to long ago a mayor forgave his humongous tax bill with interest and took his oil contaminated property for the city. He was in heaven at this good fortune.

So now the same mayor is proposing to do what to the common unconnected citizen if they miss tax payments? Oh wow man.

Coincidentally, like the mayor, he has a nice spread on the western side of the city far away from the crime and dysfunction most of us have to deal with. It is almost like they knew the city would be going deeper into the toilet while they were in charge so they got themselves to a better safer place. Good for them. There is nothing in the city charter that says politicians must experience any part of the mess their city foists on others. (Even if they have contributed heavily to it)

Neither Krol nor Marchetti have a set of hoo hoo’s. They both have proven over and over this lack of hoo hoo’s as they both have spent their time kissing Mama Linda large butt. Neither one of them have ever advocated for the taxpayers, especially Marchetti. They have shown that they are petrified to go against Mama Linda! Why would taxpayers vote for them when they have not served the taxpayers at all during their reigns as a City Councilors. Love to hear them each state just one thing they have done to benefit the taxpayers!

Yeah, there is a problem also at the media level, the eagle and of course the local radio stations, advance certain politicians, but where I’m bemused is PCTV. I see over there that they have what they call business messages.I’m assuming that they can’t charge for thesevmessages, thatt would be paid advertising.Butvcan they get legal over the table donations to advance their advertisement? Which basically is the current city council, mayor, arts or anything function that involves food? Or advances book sales for instance? And some of them are legit, free to the public but many aren’t..

The same could apply to the radio morning show, I see a big quandary there because the license for TBR comes from the school and although maybe the host is getting comp Fremont let’s say the arts in the form of free tickets to a play or show, then that would be a problem with the fcc. I’ve even heard a radio host getting comped at an event totally illegal.

In the real world Krol would be unelectable. So how does a campaign improve horrible odds like his? You put up two candidates from the same camp where the guy you really want is slightly better than the guy who has no record at all to run on. Marchettis stink is fresh and ongoing while Krols is somewhat but certainly not totally faded. And there is really nothing he can do to overcome it in the next few months. (but look for the all of a sudden perkiness and smiley facing)
Marchetti has had more than ample chance to prove to the electorate that he cared about them by speaking up for the people and questioning the mayor when she does wacko things. In fact I believe his job description talks about just that. But instead of working for the people, he conspired with, aided and abetted many ill founded and ill funded projects. Krol could not win against Johnny paycheck but standing next to Marchetti he will get votes.
And without a doubt this will be the lowest voter turnout in the history of the city hands down. I am Ok if they just flip a goddamn coin on this one. It just doesn’t matter. You could not drag me to this one.

Get out if you can.

Never take a politician at their word. Joe Biden says what Trump did with his documents was totally irresponsible. He went on and on about how horrible it was. Now more classified documents are found, this time in Joe’s private office. This is at the same unsecure location. Joe has left them all over the place at a time when he wasn’t even president so no authority to declassify documents.

Just NOW is it a big story. Joe has become a massive liability – he’s deep in guano and needs to be removed from office. No way he can participate in another campaign for prez.

Not to mention Dan, Joe Xiden was VP when he illegally took those classified documents.

VP’s cannot declassify sensitive material, only the Prez. Xiden violated the law, but what’s new?

Government sponsored main stream media will make this go away.

Speaking of ex-Prez’s, where’s Obama’s presidential library he was building in Chiraq? He’s collected tens of millions of dollars and not a shovel of dirt has been tossed. How long has he been out of office now?

There’s a world war raging right now between globalist and nationalist authoritarians. All sides want absolute control, and they will get it by locking down farmland, food, energy, and the money supply. This is what the Great Reset is all about, and it has shifted into an entirely new gear. In some parts of the world, the war already involves bombs and bullets. Glenn Beck reveals why Ukraine is so crucial to the globalist agenda and why it’s so important to nationalists like Russia, China, and Iran. Europe is already gone and lost to this craziness and they are implementing the ESG scores. America is the only holdout, but they are closing in on us too. They want people to live in small apartments, a diet limited to 1,200 calories per day, and only being able to buy 3 new pieces of clothing per year – they want total control over us while they live like kings and queens.

Sadly America is playing right into the hands of the globalists and our leader Joe Biden is a globalist. It doesn’t look good for the survival of our country unless more people wake up. This is no longer about Democrats vs. Republicans, this is about the globalists vs. the nationalists. Venezuela and Sri Lanka have had their farmland taken over by the globalists in those countries and the globalist media portrays them as radicals for complaining about it. The food and energy problems are being man-made by these globalists in their pursuit of control over the world

As the posters on this board have stated they are 2 of the same breed, tax and spend liberal who doesn’t care about the state of the city nor the Kapanski’s. Whoever controls the voting tally likes it this way. When intelligent, smart adults run for any office in Pittsfield they never get close to winning, this is why Pittsfield is stuck with incompetence. But as the saying goes you get what you vote(or what the tally says) for, so this is what the Pitts gets!!

I think the same special interests are backing both these bobble heads and really don’t care which of them wins. Either one of them will do as they are told and will not really be in charge of anything. Just like bobbletyer.

Marchetti, Krol, Harrington and Tyer should move to Richmond and live on Swamp Road.
