PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

((FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION JAN. 13-5, 2023) — As we continue to tweak THE PLANET backstage, including the ads/v.subscription debate, we will be doing more construction “backstage” with the technical systems. This will involve the “comments” section. Not to worry. You will be able to have your say, like normal, this weekend, but we want to issue this advance alert. Some comments may be held in “moderation” and may not immediately post.

This will be purely a technical issue and not some devious form of censorship. It not not even happen, and if it does, it will be random. THE PLANET asks people to be patient if their message doesn’t immediately post. Rest assured it will be in the cue and posted when the IT tinkerers have finished. We are doing this to (a) keep up with the dizzying pace of “progress” in the way that cyberspace handles data (ever faster, faster, faster) … (b) keep the “comments” platform at its optimum as part of our commitment to Free Speech … and (c) so our readers can enjoy the best experience possible. That is our commitment.

Now, to our coverage.

Snow. And a Snow Job. Kronick Speaks!

In a statement to THE PLANET, Ward 2 councilor Charles Kronick slammed the mayor and his colleagues, the former for her “deflections” and the latter for their “feigned outrage” during Tuesday night’s council meeting.

“Feigned Outrage, Deflections, and Trojan Horses, Sir Chaz said.  “This is what you are being served by the mayor and what we heard on the council floor that day. An MIT experiment proved that you will sense that a game is rigged before you realize it. You get a hunch that something’s not right. I had a hunch the moment the commissioner first mentioned magnesium that something was up. I sensed cabbage, and I figured that the council was going to propose purchasing new salt. When I saw councilor Persip’s petition asking for a quote, I knew that I had nailed it.
“The problem is not how the city responded to the storm, but how they are reacting to their failure to clear the streets. That’s what you should be watching. Let’s review the facts:
1) We had all of Friday with a stretch of light precipitation to pretreat the roads but did nothing
2) No attempt was made to warn drivers
“The outrage, though, to my resolution confirm my fears. Mealy-mouthed exclamations of shock, as though the sky were falling say clearly that this council wants to buy into the mayor’s roundabout excuse that we need new salt.
  • ‘Oh we merely want to get information!’
  • ‘We want to hear the Mayor’s report before we talk about this!’
  • ‘But we mustn’t defund the DPW!’
  • ‘All I want to know is how much the salt will cost! Nothing more!’
“Who is just curious about the price of salt and has no intention to purchase? No one, that’s who, so clearly the intention is to prepare a spending plan which will drive more taxes and increase funding for stuff you don’t need. The councilors’ reaction to my petition happened because they knew that they had been caught pursuing spending, and they scrambled to paint my resolution as ill-timed and worse. The problem concerning the Friday storm is simple: human error. The solution is in November.” [THE PLANET‘S BF]
———- ooo ———-

THE PLANET thanks Kronick for his statement, really, the only one truly reflecting the outrage of citizens who were, once again, left high and dry (or is it wet and icy) by their alleged ‘leaders.”

It’s interesting. When government steals people blind — in the form of ever-higher-taxes for ever-worse-performance, for example — the citizenry, though pissed as hell, says not a peep to its criminal politicians. It’s understandable, since much of the work is done without the Kapanskis even knowing or having time to care, as busy as Mary Jane and Joe are trying to stay afloat. But when it snows and the roads don’t get plowed, you have an OUTRAGED public not afraid to let go.

Snow is visible. Unlike corruption, mismanagement, and graft, you can see snow (pretty), feel snow (c-c-cold), taste snow (bracing), and touch it (fun — unless you’re driving).

Snow, left to accumulate and pack into ice on busy thoroughfares, is dangerous. It can cause accidents. It can even cost you your life.

Back to the now infamous Christmas Snow Job of ’22 (CSJ-22). Yes, it was a life-and-death affair, but it didn’t have to be. It only became that because of city negligence. If Linda Tyer was thinking about another term, the CSJ-22 took care of that.

Forecaster were calling for 14 to 20 inches of snow for The Berkshires, depending on elevation. Reality, however, delivered just three inches of heavy and wet stuff. Unlike the other communities in The Berkshires, the city of Pittsfield did little to NOTHING. It left its citizens to risk their lives on streets that were left to ice rinks. Three days later, cars were still slippin’ and slidin’ away. Final score for those keeping track at home, 69 accidents in 72 hours & approximately $110,000 in vehicular and property damage. Fortunately, no lives were lost.

Meanwhile, every other community in The Berkshires dealt with the storm like caring adults. From Sheffield to North Adams, roads were clean, salted/sanded, and safe.

Quite the Fitting Symbol

Ladies and Gentlemen, the CSJ-22 turned out to be the fitting symbol of mayor Linda Tyer’s futile eight years at the reins (and reign). What event could better illustrate the incompetence, lack of care, and arrogance of the current Administration, one that has only two departments operating as they should (fire and city clerk)? The blame, like guano, runs downhill, and the slushy dungheap has landed atop DPW chief Ricardo Morales, better known as RICKY RUMPUS.

This cat, Rumpus, heads the department. He directs the application of resources, both personnel and material. His responsibilities include the best use of those resources, factoring in time (urgency for safe roads) and circumstance (a snow storm). Fact is, Rumpus turned in the biggest flop since Mars Needs Moms. Rumpus, who actually has a decent set of engineering skills, has been horribly miscast. That’s the fault of Flat Tyer.

Flat put a follower into a manager’s position. The buck, the luck, and the phuck stops there, on her desk.

———- ooo ———-

THE PLANET invited council president Peter Marchetti and former councilor John Krol, who says he’s running for mayor in this year’s election, to comment further on the CSJ-22 following the council’s meeting on Tuesday. Marchetti did not respond.

Krol shared this:

“This incident could have been very much avoided … The outcome over the Christmas holiday did not occur because of any lack of effort among those driving plows. The errors were in the decisions made through the accepted chain of command, which should be carefully reviewed. While it is clear that the commissioner of public services may be targeted as a sacrificial lamb, the buck stops with the mayor. Mayor Tyer is the lead manager and CEO of the city of Pittsfield. Ultimately, the operations and processes that work, or do not work, are her responsibility. A mayor needs to stand up and take responsibility for the operations of the city. As mayor I will seek out the very best and most experienced talent available to re-establish the can-do culture that we once had.
“As a city councilor during the era that John Barrett III served as a consultant for the city, I experienced a dramatic change in operations that elevated our services to a previously unthinkable new level. And the people loved it. They deserve it for the tax dollars they pay. We deserve better services in our city. I have had conversations with key people who helped lead this change during the Barrett era, and they have agreed to be involved in the transition, and (in some cases) beyond, so we will get off to a fresh new start under my administration.
“As it relates to the council meeting, I didn’t have any expectation for any substantive results Tuesday. Ultimately, it is the mayor who needs to change the culture and give our people the services they deserve.”

As for Rumpus?

  • He’s the guy who in 2021 called Third Thursday “one of the [last] vestiges of the GE era” in Pittsfield. Even though he wasn’t born in Pittsfield and can’t possibly remember the “GE era.”
  • He’s the guy who, after installing the disastrous bike lanes and maze markings to confuse the crap out of North Street drivers trumpeted “that Pittsfield is poised for great success.” … as in Flat’s “vibrant and dynamic” bullshit.
  • He’s the guy who was careful to suck up to our Fabulous Reps in the General Court, State House, Boston, stating how “reassuring” it is “to see the effort made by our state representatives into making this [economic prosperity] a reality.”

Rumpus has been made the fall guy for the CSJ-22, and that’s a miracle. Who else could turn winter into fall? As for Flat, where art thou? She hasn’t said one word about the CSJ-22 fiasco. Guess the powder in Vail is better than the ice of Pittsfield.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

Happy MLK weekend everyone!! I just started to ponder what has happened to society? How come the citizens can’t trust their elected leaders to follow the laws and to put the citizens needs above their own? It seems we are on a slippery slope and currently I can not see how the citizens can find candidates that will work for the citizens!! Let’s hope their are some out there willing to fight the fight because it will be a fight to get the leeches of society off the public money

17 million in free cash for Pittsfield? I imagine the mayors special interest friends are besides themselves with glee. And I imagine most of them already know where most of it is going. ching ching if you have connections. Tears if you are the common peon taxpayer because your kid ain’t going to college if you live in Pittsfield. Not unless you get a full scholarship and that ain’t likely if you went through the Pittsfield school system.

Does Krol have an opinion on how this money should be used? I know in the olden days when he was not running for mayor he would have said to absolutely NOT give it back to the taxpayers. But maybe he will say differently (until actually elected)

Don’t need to even ask Marchetti. He presided over all the tax increases that hauled this cash into city halls coffers in the first place.

Public schools are mostly worried about convincing kids they are trapped in the wrong body and need gender surgery and hormones or testosterone put into their bodies. It’s all about population control and women are the biggest target as if they are being erased from their reproductive abilities while being convinced they are not even female.

True Dan. Which is one of the reasons the Globalists are pushing it on our youth. That and population control. They are growing lamb wombs in the lab but their real goal is to create a human womb in the lab rendering real females to be unnecessary.

Taking a cue from your quote;
“Any jackass can kick down a barn” – that would be Krol as he has been a loud & vocal supporter of Linduh Tyer and Andrea Harrington. His political posturing words fall on my deaf ears as he is not “the good carpenter to build one.” He is a liberal progressive spender and was a failure as a city councilor. He also pushed for and supported bringing unvetted Syrian refugees to the city.

Where is the mayor? Where was she during CSJ-22? Was she out of town?
If she was out of town, who was left in charge?
That’s the question that needs to be addressed.
People need to be held accountable.

Can’t wait for the CSJ-22 report scheduled for Jan. 24th!

Is the report being gone over by a group of insurance lawyers who have told the mayor to be very very careful how she words her report? Is that what is taking so long Pete? An admission of city failure could result in some serious liability I would imagine. Deny, deny, deny and then obfuscate, spin and rinse.

He was a Democrat after all. Trump’s documents were known to be missing a few months after he left the presidency while 6 years went by for Biden and nobody seemed to care that these TOP SECRET documents were under oil cans in Joe’s garage. It’s all part of the scrutiny on Trump that was over the top and they wanted to create a spectacle with his Mara Lago raid.

Dan, when you speak to Krol and Marchetti again, would you ask them their position on the unnecessary DIE Office?

Let’s get these two on record, are you for it or are you against it? If you’re against the DIE Office will you eliminate this divisive, and HR duplicated department?

I don’t want to hear, “I’ll have to conduct a study into it,” or “I’ve never really looked into it,” etc. Just a yes or no.

Dan are you Krol’s campaign manager or campaign consultant?
Asking for a friend.
My advice to Krol is this – focus your efforts on your blended family. You have five young children and an opportunity to redeem yourself in the domestic category. They need your attention. They don’t need a dad out several nights a week tending to the city’s business.
Dads are important, much more important than political aspirations (for which you are not qualified). Focus on your young family, you won’t regret it.

Excellent points Fritz. Krol should focus on the kids and their extracurricular activities, whether that be sports, theatre, or auto mechanics. Kids enjoy and cherish having their fathers around.

It’s also a much safer option for his family to stay together.

If he becomes mayor, a tiger doesn’t change his stripes. I’m sure his significant other will be more worried about his extracurricular activities, than the kids. In those late night “city meetings,” Krol will help work on the female college intern’s briefs with them. Nothing like extra credit, hey Mr. Mayor?

Thank you, Dan, for asking the reps for responses. The storm is long gone, accidents are in the shops with property damaged and ego’s bruised. There is no fix for harm caused, and a report submitted 1 month hence (Jan. 24!) comes 1 month too late. It should have been written the week of 12/27.

My Point is keep your eyes on the ball. The political speech about salt, wanting a report, etc… is to divert YOUR ATTENTION from what actions did not happen:

Friday/Saturday: pretreatmentsemergency calls to the Mayor’sand shift your attention to Councilors’ REACTION to what people are saying.

Identifying the obvious mistakes gives confidence a lesson was observed. Focusing on the reaction promises that unnecessary spending will be forthcoming. A shiny new truck, perhaps, to say, “Look! We are appalled and we did something.”

Why I oppose chasing new salt and equipment:

From the statement I read at open mic from a 34 year vet of MassDOT:
“Yes Dot will use other, but even without Magnesium chloride, Dot will salt [rock salt] heavy as close to the change from rain to snow. Over at that time the salt will be able to become a brine and will work for hours to come EVEN in [extreme] cold. Always fight a Storm from the Bottom Up [pretreat] . If you do that you WILL HAVE SAFER ROADS and no Hard pack”

He also smelled the cabbage. This is really all you need from an official report. It was sent, free of charge, by one of our own residents.

The warm start to the day combined with light periods of rain made for an ideal opportunity to form a brine solution from untreated rock salt on the streets. This commercial supplier (Ninja De-Icers) explains how pretreating the roads would have substantially altered our experience that weekend.

That new equipment bullshit is simply a “look over there not over here” diversion. Apparently Persip and the mayor think we are all complete idiots. I do believe they will get their snow job over on the people. I do believe they will buy new trucks and accessories. And I do believe they will sit useless taking up space much like the police command vehicle. Obviously Pittsfield gets snow storms unlike the rest of the county and needs special help. Why does God send especially tricky storm to Pittsfield though. Why why why??? The very simple solution would be to hire a DPW guy from any other New England town or city. That’s it right there. They might not be as ass sucking or pliable to mayors but they would get the job done properly as it has been done in Pittsfield forever and ever. Only under mayor Tyer has snow removal become rocket science.

I am embarrassed for this city. If anyone ever asks me where I am from I will lie.

He should be fired ASAP. This isn’t his first foul up. He’s had more chances than the bar owner. You have to have accountability in government. At some point. He’d have been fired in the private sector on just the other crap he’s done. There maybe one out on this. He gave marching orders and that person in charge dropped the ball. Is anyone even talking about the contract plows? What percentage of the total plowing is done by contractors? No one saw much of them either so what is the real story?

The first question needed to be answered is “Why were the plows not out on the roads??” Were they out there or not and if they were out there what evidence of that is there? Will the owners swear on a bible that they were out there and detail which roads they serviced and when?
Is some political cadre protecting some private plow contractors that failed to show up?

Tyer had two “fresh starts” so I am not sure that policy is viable. People thought she had taken us pretty much to the bottom after her first four years but lo and behold she showed us she could dig the taxpayers financial hole even deeper.

Krol needs a “fresh start?” Is that like the guy who wants to “get his life back together”? If so can he do it somewhere else please? Pittsfield needs to come out from under the special interest thumb for at least a little while to catch their breath.

Police seized over $30K worth of illegal METH when they raided a Pittsfield home on Alden Ave Tuesday. Police arrested the alleged METH trafficker, a citizen from the Dominican Republic, with several different Pittsfield addresses, who was out on release related to his 2022 multiple open cases of assaulting a minor and being a flight risk when he was arrested again, this time on drug trafficking charges. That’s on top of the five people, 3 from the Bronx, the police arrested 4 days ago when police executed raids/search warrants on two different homes in Pittsfield, one on Pontoosuc Ave and the other on Dalton Ave. In those raids police confiscated loaded firearms with defaced serial numbers, large capacity feeding devices, QUANTITIES OF COCAINE and HEROIN packaged for distribution and the police FAVORITE, the UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF U.S. CASH. And all of that is on top of another 16-year-old ghetto cannibal arrested on charges of ARMED ROBBERY on January 5, 2023 in Pittsfield, MA.

But I digress, did anyone watch the video of Lindsey Marion owner of Otto’s located across the street from Superior Court? I just want to say that I really hope Lindsey and her husband Lucas aren’t allowed to take photos/videos of their toddler and share/distribute those. YIKES! And isn’t Otto’s one of John Krol’s haunts?

Liberals plan to ban ALL semi-automatic firearms in Massachusetts.

Contact you representatives.

This won’t pass muster under 2nd amendment.

Linksy – he’s been a busy boy. From the bill,

“The provisions of this section shall not apply to: (i) the possession by a law enforcement officer, as defined in section 1 of chapter 6E or (ii) the possession by an individual who is employed by a state or federal government agency and is not otherwise prohibited from receiving such a weapon or feeding device from such state or federal government agency.”

If the wise men of Beacon Hill believe that semi-automatic weapons are the filth of the Commonwealth, by all means pass a bill to ban them. But ban them completely! “Let no person, private nor employed by the Commonwealth or the Federal Government may bear any firearm with a semi-automatic feeding device.”

That means if they want to send feds to Vermont, they can stay on the NY Thruway until they hit Bennington or leave their evil weapons made in Mordor at the border.

Pundits are saying the Dem candidate for prez in 2024 will be Michelle Obama. Biden was set up with the “classified document” scandal because he had the audacity to declare he was running for a second term. Will Biden complete his 4 year term? Will the Obama swamp shuffle him off to a nursing home under the 25th? Stay tuned! Another Dem prez would be the nail in the coffin of our Republic.

The leftist globalists think they have the 2024 election in the bag with all of the immigrants they purposely brought into the country so running Michelle is for them a no brainer.
They know that another Dem president will be the nail in the coffin for this country which is why they need somebody besides Joe. The globalists can control Michelle. They like these weak people including weak women who will do their bidding. Michelle is weak minded enough to qualify as their candidate and they think the women will go wild over her just for being a woman.

Michelle and Barack are already huge globalists so putting her in as a potential president would be a logical choice since she would lock in the globalist agenda for this country by continuing to attack our energy, food supply, and monetary system and brainwashing the young with gender confusion to drive down the population and far left activism to buy their continued loyalty for votes. So getting Biden out of the way with this scandal is part of their plan.

So our Mealy Mouthed Mayor, her stooge Deanna “My family owned half of north street” and her cronies COULD use ARPA for projects that benefit the city.

Or they could send people to Africa

Huge city wing plow going up and down my street with the plow down right now at 10:30 am. Not kidding. There is about 1/8th of an inch of snow out there… no exaggeration. At least he does not have the wing down. I thought maybe I had gotten ahold of a bad edible but another household member assured me that, yes indeed, a big snow fighter was plowing one eigth of an inch of snow and had to make three passes to get it all. I take that back, just came by again. Holy cow…..Turned around and coming by one more time. Not making this up.

Must be like the new math. Whole new way of doing things us old codgers do not understand. At least I can get out of my driveway now. Whew!

There is a lot of black ice out there in places. BJ’s parking lot is very icy. You can feel the ice on the roads in some spots so I would advise going very slow. All that water from last night and then the snow fell on it so it’s dangerous. They should be putting down something for ice and not plowing.

If one is an out-of-town millionaire or an out-of-state company, one receives millions of dollars from the city of Pittsfield. But if one is a financially constrained old person on a fixed income, Matt Kerwood will seize one’s property without being able to answer Ward 2 City Councilor Charles Ivar Kronick’s questions about it. Moreover, if there is a difficult snowstorm in the Winter and there are a little less than 6 dozen auto accidents and related injuries, then the City Councilors who are not absent from the meeting express surprise and outrage about it. Of course, several City Councilors don’t bother to attend the meeting, along with Mayor Linda Tyer. The report of that debacle won’t take place until the January 24th, 2023, City Council meeting. Did I miss anything?

A scorpion, aka linDUNkrolchetti, wanted to cross a river, but he could not swim, so he asked a frog to carry him across. The frog hesitated, afraid that the scorpion might sting him, but the scorpion promised not to, pointing out that it would drown if it killed the frog in the middle of the river. The frog considered this specious argument sensible and agreed to transport the scorpion across the river into the corrupt corner office. Not surprisingly, midway, at the point of no return, the scorpion began savagely stinging the frog anyway, dooming them both to die. The frog asked the scorpion why WHY he lied and stung him despite knowing the consequences, to which the scorpion replied, I couldn’t resist the urge, it’s in my nature.

Next week a kindly farmer taxpayer takes pity on a venomous forked tongue viper aka linDUNkrolchetti. But in that more likely Pittsfield scenario only the poor kindly taxpayer farmer suffers unbearably, homeless and destitute, after being taxed to death by the voracious viper, aka linDUNkrolchetti.

Aristotle would be proud of this comment if he were alive today.

While it will surely offend some, and go way over the heads of others, its dark reality does run parallel to the Pittsfield experience.

When Ilhan Omar wants Biden to be investigated over his classified documents, you know this is a setup by the Democrats to get rid of Biden for the coronation of Globalist Michelle Obama.

Hello blogger Dan Valenti,

I watched WCVB’s On the Record political TV show today.

https://www.wcvb.com/article/on-the-record-playlist/36079040

The state (of Massachusetts)’s only Republican District Attorney Tim Cruz from Plymouth County was on the broadcast today. He said that Massachusetts has only one Republican D.A. and 2 Republican County Sheriffs. All of the statewide constitutional offices are held by Democrats.

Tim Cruz mentioned – not by name – that Berkshire County D.A. Andrea Harrington lost her reelection campaign by a 2-to-1 margin due to her progressive policies.

I disagreed with Tim Cruz when he said that Governor Charlie Baker did a good job. What about the debacle at the Holyoke Soldiers Home whereby around 80 Veterans died of Covid-19 in 2022? Baker never apologized and took any responsibility for what happened there under his leadership. Now, Charlie Baker runs the NCAA sports program whereby he makes $60,000 per week – $3 million per year – to watch young adult student athletes play sports. Charlie Baker also collects his 6-figure public pension plus perks, and he is a multimillionaire to boot.

I agreed with Tim Cruz when he said he would not support Donald Trump for his reelection campaign. My hope is that two new candidates for U.S. President on both partisan tickets will receive the nomination in 2024.

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle
