PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

————————–

ADD 1 5/23/23 6:30 p.m. — As promised, our interview with D.A. Tim Shugrue is now available on YouTube. Go to PLANET VALENTI VIDEO and check it out.

—————————

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, WEDNESDAY MAY 24, 2023) — We slayed in third grade with this “knock knock” joke:

KNOCK KNOCK.

Who’s there?

Dwayne.

Dwayne who?

Dwayne the bathtub, I’m dwowning.

Could a career in stand-up be far off?

After THE PLANET interviewed Berkshire County District Attorney Tim Shugrue for an hour+, a revised version of the joke popped into our head:

KNOCK KNOCK.

Who’s there?

Andrea?

Andrea Who?

Andrea Out the Doria, who’s not drowning because she’s already drowned, and her zombified legal corpse has washed up in the D.A.’s office of St. Louis, MO. Moses was found in the reeds by the Nile. Squeaky was found in the muck by the Mississippi.

———- ooo ———-

You will allow us leeway with our Falstaffian humor, but THE PLANET couldn’t help it. Not after visiting the inner sanctum of 7 North Street with Shugrue at the helm. You can watch the entire interview on PLANET VALENTI VIDEO, our YouTube channel, streaming either late afternoon early evening today (Wed.)

Out chat covered a broad range of topics including the failure of “woke” justice, the Rachel Rollins fiasco, the restoration of actual prosecution against criminals, campaign promises v. promise fulfillment, reinstating professionalism in the office, specific cases, and more.

When THE PLANET came high and inside with brush back pitches, Shugrue got back in the box and even crowded the plate, another pleasant change from whining, crying, and “It’s the mean pitcher’s fault that I can’t hit a lick.” One D.A. owns everything, mistakes included. The other blames everyone else. As THE PLANET‘s demon cameraman Dr. Dave Bubriski observed, “It’s nice to see the adults back in charge.”

We will let the interview speak for itself. You can either accept of reject what Shugrue says. He wiped the floor with his predecessor in the November election for a reason, crushing her 2-to-1, which means that 1/3 of those who voted won’t face facts, won’t admit that their “woke” paradise turned Pittsfield into hell, and will snot-up the football with their runny noses in spite.

As we said, the interview speaks for itself. THE PLANET‘s focus here is on the “feeling,” the Feng shui, of 7 North “now” v. “then.”

“Then” was the disaster of Squeaky’s four-year reign.

When THE PLANET would pop in, she was conveniently never in or “in conference.” She refused to answer inquiries. She hid in unpin sight. Squeaky’s lapdog Andy McKeever followed order and erased us from the press list. Back “then,” the first-floor spaces at 7 North were dark and gloomy, office doors were closed, shades were drawn, and the smell of paranoia and fear dampened everything, reminding one of the fetid smell of those Parris Island swamps.

That was “then.”

This is “now.”

———- ooo ———-

“Now,” there’s a sense of openness in the office. Doors were open. People were friendly. Shades were up. Sunshine poured into offices and hallways. It’s genuine, as authentic as the PSA-certified “mint” 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps baseball card that sold at auction for $5.2 million. A palpable sense of “team” made itself felt throughout the entire suite.

Under Squeaky, we learned that a dead fish rots from the head down. Under Shugrue, it’s become apparent that a team forms from the head coach laterally.

What Shugrue has managed in restoring professionalism, buy-in, and self-respect to the Berkshire County D.A.’s office in a mere five months is one step short of Fatima, that is, miraculous. This is especially so after what he had to deal with after taking over from the previous “owner,” who ran 7 North Street as a combo political HQ and gulag.

Ever the petulant sore loser, Squeaky didn’t allow her successor access to the office until Shugrue took the oath  — with his right hand, no less. Squeaky also made sure to wipe out case files and other important records, not that it made a difference. The Commonwealth backs up everything, and nothing was lost. That’s how dumb Squeaky was (and “is” as the poor folks in St. Louis, MO will soon discover). Despite these obstacles, Shugrue go out of the gates like The Flash and brought brings cases to trial in his first week, logging more court time in five weeks than Squeaky did in four years.

If Shugrue can maintain the momentum, installation of “can do” v. “don’t dare” mentality could transform the county’s entire criminal justice landscape.

Suddenly, the streets, shops, and public spaces feel safer and more inviting.

I am proud of the first woman Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington’s one term for four years – 2019 to 2022 – in elected office. I believe that she did a good job prosecuting violent crime in Pittsfield. The only thing that worked against her is that she wasn’t a political insider in Pittsfield politics.

I am sure that Tim Shugrue told blogger Dan Valenti everything that he wanted to hear from him. Tim Shugrue operates like all of the other political insiders who are in the political establishment’s pocket. Tim Shugrue’s negative campaign against Andrea Harrington worked, but she proved herself to be the bigger person

I know some people who strongly supported her during the first election but could not do so when she ran for re-election. I also know some people who were dealing with her office for their cases and complained regularly that they couldn’t get info from her/her office. She was always available for photo ops, though.

JM any chance you could post a link to back up your statement about her “prosecuting violent crimes.”

Did you forget about the racial kidnapping hoax at Simon’s Rock College in GB?

Something tells me if you were one of the one of the white male students falsely glared at, you’d need a room to cry in and post endless blogs about how ‘Luciforo’ and that incident, set you on the path of extreme paranoia and endlessly repeating the same story to The Planet.

We get it!!

Now do an internet search on ‘LaQuan Johnson and David Moody, Pittsfield, MA.”

Then do one on ‘J C Chadwell, Pittsfield, MA.”

And finally, ‘Lonnie Durfee, Dalton, MA.’

Don’t forget the racial kidnapping hoax either.

I made it very easy for you. I’m interested in your findings and look forward to hearing back from you with FACTS, not a recycled JM opinion piece.

While you’re doing your research, think of which one of these guys you’d want getting out of prison and living next to you or your family.

Nothing will change after Andrea Harrington’s one term as the Berkshire County District Attorney from 2019 – 2022. But if you can prove me wrong on this, please let us know how the sitting Berkshire County District Attorney Tim Shugrue turned the tide in Pittsfield’s favor.

The citizens of the Berkshires felt differently and voted Tim in.They felt any change and improvements compared to what was offered over her 4 year term would be worth a shot at change. And it wasn’t a negative campaign that caused her to lose, it was her policies as da which was all that was needed to truthfully be brought up during the campaign that sunk her. Crime is going to happen and the difference will be how the law is enforced for the crimes. I don’t believe your woman nonsense because if she had approached her term differently as far as enforcement of the law she might have had a better chance at remaining as da. She had four years and Tim has four years.Give him his time to see if things change before making the call things won’t change.

Talking to Shugrue he’s estimated it may take at least a year if not more.
She didn’t have to delete files to screw things up, her incompetence was working overtime. The record keeping was atrocious under her watch.
People in the office have said she spent most of her time, not in the office, or in the office on social media and google searching her name.
In the last year she was there most of her time was spent trying to find another job because the writing on the wall was crystal clear.

Off-topic;
Question for Councilor Kronick – What are your thoughts on the Community & Economic Development Committee recommending a $150,000 gift out of the GE Fund to PathogenX?
The CEO, Chuck Berkeley, is quoted as saying “I want to do something for the kids” in bringing his proposed manufacturing company to Pittsfield from China & Canada. That comment strikes me as preposterous! When does this vote come up before the City Council? What info have you unearthed regarding this company?
Thank you in advance for your work on the Council.

PROCESS: (Proper)
1) CEO forms a relationship with PEDA/CITY. The two form a proposal.
2) CITY presents the proposal to the Council subcommittee. The CEO may attend. But, at this point – it is the City’s proposal. The CEO’s job is to explain information that is IN the proposal.
3) Subcomm. reviews and evaluates the proposal. If there are questions not answered in the proposal, the subcomm. compiles the holes and request the City to return later with a revised proposal (bigger than the first.)
4) City works with CEO to get answers and documentation, refreshes report and reports back to subcomm
5-SWITCH) Case 1: If NEW questions emerge, Repeat 3 & 4
Case 2) If questions are resolved: Refer to Council – 6
6) Council vote that is 100% satisfied by what is presented in the written report. This vote is not based on verbal assurances, emotional appeals, vague statements eg, “we have hundreds of customers”.

The Committee is responsible for making certain that a complete report is presented.

The committee failed at that task. I voted for the gift – it was a toss up decision. I made my point about the process – no one seemed to think it was an issue. Too bad! I feel that this behavior is bad for business and it harms the applicant, who may have more business planning to consider, as much as the public.

Sidepoint: moving manufacturing out of China/Canada is attractive for manufacturing.

PathogenX is another wayfair meets Theranos with a dash of Patrick Muraca waiting to happen.

It’s not fully certified, the patents haven’t been granted, his company is “5” employees (it’s only two), it’s been all over the map on moves for cash. Their revenue is well under a million dollars. They exist on funding from investors aka suckers.

If he was such a hardcore “Pittsfield guy” he’d move him and his wife here, establish a business on his own dime, and stop asking for handouts.

“ Berkeley added that PathogenX is also currently in the approval processes for several additional major international markets and will have a substantial global presence by the end of 2021.”

That was during Covid that he made those statements and they’ve seen no great growth.
All of his press is paid for placement press releases saying the same thing.
They’ve been to SC, CO, CA, and now want to be in MA all since 2019.

Thank you both for the info. QT my thoughts exactly on the “Wayfair meets Theranos with a dash of Patrick Muraca” description. I find it alarming that these small companies blow into town and easily win money from Pittsfield without breaking a sweat. Why didn’t the City Council insist on a complete report? I only saw one article, on iBerkshires, about this company – was there any coverage by the Eagle? Why did the C&ED Committee recommend they be given the money without having PathogenX financials, patents, only two employees and owners who don’t live in Pittsfield?????? Suckers indeed! If Persip is the committee chair, he needs to be replaced.

The C&ED subcommittee which recommended giving money to PathogenX is comprised of;

Earl Persip, Chair
Kevin Sherman, Vice Chair
Peter White
Patrick Kavey
Karen Kalinowsky

PathogenX was given $150,000 despite the fact that according to QT, there are no patents for the product, the company has 2 employees, and the owners don’t even live in Pittsfield. According to Councilor Kronick, no complete report was prepared on the company by the subcommittee for the City Council to review.

Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats are up to no good. They could easily negotiate with the Republicans to get this budget passed, but they want to use the budget situation to create the crisis they want which is to throw the country into recession and blame it all on the Republicans; hoping there are enough stupid people in the country who believe their lies. Hakeem Jeffries and others in the Democratic party are out there forecasting doom and gloom if the budget isn’t passed. So why don’t they get working to pass it? Never let a crisis go to waste is the motto of the current Democratic party. This shouldn’t be a crisis, but they want to turn it into one.

That’s the only “immunity ” associated with the experimental injections.

They tried to bury the trials/”research” for 75 years too.

I get my neighbors paper the next day. Nothing is ever in there that cannot wait a day or three. And I feel good about the recycling part.

My cat goes outside, and won’t use the litter box, if lined with the Left Winged Parrot.

If someone leaves one here, it’s OK to use to start fires in the wood stove.

You are right about the United Way. I like to know where my cash is actually going.
I mow the neighbors lawn for free and I take her newspapers out of the recyle bin.
I have heated up leftover haddock but not at any place of employment. Not saying I would not do it though.

Maybe Dan should start listing obituaries because that is where most of the Eagle unique views come from.

Looks like 70-80% advertisements. Some are disguised as actual stories but I can see through that.

Point taken, but iBerkshires/Berk Eagle cover a wider audience. iberk (boxcar Media) is an aggregator of web traffic. Its news media component (iberk) points to NA, Willtown, Cheshire, 01201. BE is Berk. County audience. As others have pointed out, it needs high traffic which is driven by retail service – ads and obits. Obits with BE, I learned to my surprise, are priced comparable to coffins.

Can’t really compare anyway. Completely different concepts. 6,000 relevant and qualified hits is better than 100,000 random bounces.

It considers you a sports site because you don’t qualify as a news site and that’s your own fault. You don’t understand that you listed sports words in your metadata.

You’re not even close to number one locally. You’re just making stuff up.
You are ranked, in Berkshire county, at 102,055. Ibershires, 407, Berkshire Eagle, 3

That means in Berkshire county, or websites that list a Berkshire zip code as their primary location, there are 102,054 websites more popular than yours. PCTV has more engagement than you!

Wondering where our illustrious representatives in Congress are in this debt ceiling manufactured crisis. Isn’t Rep O’Neal a budget wizard? Where is Sen Warren fighting for the main street little guy? Shouldn’t they be pushing for a compromise before the chaos? How come there aren’t articles in the front page how they are pushing a compromise through where both sides give and get a little? Doesn’t seem that difficult! It also seems like it is their responsibility, yet I don’t see our paper nor representatives fighting for us!

Under Biden, seniors will be getting a 25% cut in social security in the coming years because Biden isn’t setting aside any money for them. All seniors should vote against Biden in 2024 because he isn’t looking out for them.

Funny you should say that Pat. Biden and his kid were just at my house rifling through the silverware. He ripped down a couple of hanging plants from my porch and kicked over my garbage cans on his way back to the presidential limo. What the hell is the matter with this guy? If he does it again I may not vote for him next time.

Beautiful picture of ethylwind estate in berk rag. This was krofta eng. Corp corporate world headquarters for over 45 years. Many mega million deals cut here including pittsfield, Lee and Lenox, Here in Berkshire county. My office lower left corner
I miss all my colleagues there and the old gorgeous building. I miss working with Dr. MILOS KROFTA WHO WAS KNOWN AS THE FATHER OF FLOTATION TECHNOLOGY.
OUR WORKERS from all over the world VISITED KEC on a regular basis. Boy do I miss those good times we had together. Everything changes including us. Hold on to good memories as that is all you have and need to take you to the new chapters of our lives

Hodgkins tenure at KEC was a disaster. He put on to be one person and was a completely different person in reality. One of Dr.kroftas biggest mistakes. KEC would recover after Hodgkins short period there and would soar as the world leader of flotation clarification technology. KEC built over 3500 facilities throughout the world in its 50 years of advancing flotation clarification technology including municipal water and wastewater solids-liquid seperation including the pittsfield drinking water facilities

Planet posters, Shame on you not one person from this site spoke at the CC meeting Tuesday evening. The only people speaking for you that night were Alex Blumin and myself. I have invited Kroll and Marchetti to host my TV show four times each They must appear alone and speak about what they will do as mayor of the city of pittsfield if elected. After they have appeared solo on 4 ocassions all three of us will debate on two ocassions on my show. I think this is the best way to introduce ourselves and avoid the silly debates with some halfwit moderator. Those debates are useless. Using my suggestions here is the best way to inform the public of who we are and what we intend to do if elected mayor

I mentioned the planet as the best source for news in this city. It would be a sad day not to have Mr. Valentis commentary
I also feel that the planet posters bring plenty to the table daily. I can’t imagine not looking at the blog. It is a good source of information for my own show. I only wish that many of the planet posters would join me at CC meetings to put the puppet show in its place. I coined a new phrase for the mayor and council:: Tyer Iron and the 6 lugnuts
That’s how I see them

“Experts say the President is one of the foremost experts in wrecking things–including the economy, the military, the dollar, America’s hopes and dreams, and his son Hunter. “DeSantis will have a ton of catching up to do if he wants to even approach the levels of ruin wrought upon the nation by President Biden,” said one expert. “When you look at how well Florida is doing, it would appear he may not be up for the job of further destroying the country.”

Great article Dan. And to those blind people that support Harrington…
It may take some time to clean up her old cases. Then we can truly evaluate the new DA. I wish there was greater honesty among people and not blind loyalty, to either a person or a party.

I don’t think AH was ever qualified to be DA, professionally or personally. I think it’s clear that Shugrue is.

But as much as AH fudged up her role, she did have some enduring qualities. Her desire to stop prosecuting petty crimes wasn’t unreasonable. Her goal to implement more social programming as opposed to punitive prosecution was coming from the right place.

And anyone who thinks Shrugue is going to STOP or DECREASE the level of crime in the city by pursuing more aggressive prosecution is woefully naive.

Tough on crime hasn’t worked in 40 years. Harsh sentencing, mandatory sentencing, charge stacking, etc. hasn’t made America or the Berkshires safer and less criminal. It results in fully stocked prisons, and less stable communities.

Criminal activity is a symptom of social malaise. The most serious crime reported on North Street in a very long time has been an attempted child abduction by a mentally ill vagabond. Our city has become a cess pool of low-life grifters and gypsies, landed here because who knows why, and stayed here because they feel welcome.

A community becomes safer and more attractive when those in charge of running it – mayor, city council, etc. – are appropriate for the task. This community is weak, it is penetrable, and it is decaying. Because those in charge of running it have let it die.

I will give Clown shoes Shagrue two years tops before he falls over. You are correct in the fact that those running the city have let it die. However i would add to that list the former and current Senator the state Rep and One Berkshire and the like bunch of tribes that exist here. Please tell me one piece of business that anyone has brought to Pittsfield that has created jobs?

We have a bunch of non-thinkers in this area with no creativity outside of having some pasta dinners to raise money for various causes. The Da’s office and the Sheriff’s office have always been staffed by Family and friends just happens AH upset that apple cart.

This also goes for the Mayors office city jobs,Fire Department etc..

Next up will be the two clowns running for Mayor. Nobody here really wants change they just want a piece of the $ pie. The Place is rotting bit by bit.

I do not understand why the business community does not weigh in more on the mayor and city council. They are the ones who will suffer the most when the middle class is driven out. The vagabonds will not spend money in their stores but will be there to hang around outside or come in and steal shit. The business community should have clout, though in Pittsfield, given the dynamics of the leadership, it may not be true anyomore. Maybe just a few of the most powerful business folk are calling most of the shots, to the detriment of the others.

Sad sad Pittsfield. Headless and wandering in the dark, banging into walls and waiting to step off the top step and go cascading down the stairs.
