The proverbial “They” in this case is the city’s Conservation Commission, abbreviated as ConCom. Don’t you love it. “Con.” Somehow, it echoes of “apt.”
— Dem Bones, Dem Bones Gonna Rise: In addition to Frank Kendall, Bitchfield has made the news. The city won recognition from Guinness. No, not the tasty dark beer. We speak of the Book of World Records. Seems the traffic light at the intersection of Springside Avenue and North Street has the longest wait in the world for motorists looking to take a left turn. If you’ve been stuck in the left-turn lane on Springside looking to approach North Street heading south, you’ll know why. Just last week, 18 skeletons were removed from six vehicles that had been at that light, waiting for red to turn green.
— Turnabout is Fair Play: Of course, this being Bitchfield, one the lucky motorist gets the green light and takes the left from Springside to North, he encounters another of those dandy turnabouts. This one features the usual confusion, with the added feature of razor-sharp 10″ spikes randomly inserted into the lanes. To slow down traffic, says Ricky Rumpus.

In order to vote somebody out you have to do it by voting someone else to take their place. And who the fick would be running in Pittsfield that would be much different than the one you want out? Very important while senior citizens are clawing to keep their homes. Is Parks dept budget over ten million or twenty million? Pittsfield is a cult-town.
The idiot politicians would be a bunch of nobody’s if they did NOT live in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Pittsfield politics is like a theatrical show. They act like they are the BIG STARS of a distressed city instead of actually representing the common interests of the people and taxpayers who live there.
To obtain and retain a full-time job in Pittsfield, one has to “Pay” to “Watch the PLAY” of buffoonery. BUT, if one opposes the cult, then one might as well as plan on living on “Jon Melle the have-NOT’s” pretend homeless sidewalk on the corner of First Street and Fenn Street.
Then there is book writer Dan Valenti, who the likes of Earl and the 2-Pete’s Pittsfield politics all refuse to speak with. Blogger Dan Valenti writes critical posts about the buffoonery that taxpayers have to fund.
Then there are the likes of “BOYS Club camp counselor” (late-) Carm and Angelo whose adult-theater falls under the naughty saying: “It is who you know and who you….Ange-BL..W”.
Then there is the Voltron cartoon, the Dumpster podcast, and the BIG beer belly circus, along with the Country Buffet show.
Let us not forget about the long-running soap opera of “Jon Melle the have-NOT versus Luciforo the millionaire” that the local audience describes as “an OBSESSION of WEIRDNESS”.

Everytime I hit a traffic light someone is using the crosswalk light. And now I’ve even seen someone pushing the button just walking by? Bad enough these rumpus lump red lights take so long to change.Two other long lights are north at Hancock and the bottom of the hill at wahconah north going east.
Sometimes the crosswalk lights just come on for no reason as if set on a timer. Nobody within a hundred yards and the crosswalk light comes on and ya sit there like a fool.

and as the vehicles are towed one by one or sometimes two by two, into the repair shops for front end repairs the drivers were to exclaim, “why doesn’t the mayor level the road under the Hubbard ave bridge?” And the reply is shouted out from the office that, “the mayor is busy working on Waconah Park and does not have time for such things. Plus, he never has to drive through there so why he would give a shit?”
And as the nearby industrial park tenants were righteously stupefied they could only assume it was left a mess intentionally so that any new business’s might be forced to consider the Stanly Business park option. What else could the reasoning be they wondered as no explanation was brought forward. They did not want the road raised they just wanted what was there to be level. It seemed that in the days when rockets were being sent to Mars this would be doable.
Ah, yes. The Hubbard Avenue Bridge. Rumor has it that when Dan Valenti announce for mayor, that’s where he’ll announce. When we reached Dan for comment, he says words to the effect that one would have to be ill-advised to “get in the same cage as them animals.”
I was waiting for someone to mention the light at the Springside Avenue and North Street intersection. The poorly timed traffic light creates backup of cars especially during rush hour, but the long wait time for the light to change is annoying all day. Why is this light so long?
Former government and military employees shouldn’t still have top security clearance giving them access to sensitive information. The media won’t hesitate to run any story no matter if it’s sensitive information or not. The media keeps reporting that we are running out of certain weapons due to the Iran war. Is this really something they should be announcing to our enemies during a time of war whether it’s true or not?

Traffic circles made of brick pavers twice the width of the traffic lanes….lanes too narrow for most trucks to negotiate without their rear wheels riding up onto the brick pavers………traffic circles for traffic problems that never existed, until they were constructed.

Fro my memory, people didn’t really care about the rotaries, but the obvious graft involving that kid who wanted to put one at every intersection.
Stop signs are still cheaper and do the same thing: regulate traffic.
Speaking of stop signs, AND stop lights, many side streets have the signs/lights obscured by overgrowth of vegetation, i.e. NEGLECT BY THE CITY DPW/RICKY RUMPUS’S crew of scoffery..
Just two examples are: 1) at intersection of Dawes ave and High st. Northbound on High, until YOU REACH the stop line, you cannot see the sign. 2) Again Northbound, the stop light on 2nd st at Lincoln st. The light is invisible to drivers until nearly in the intersection, due to tree branches obscuring the light.
The above are just 2 examples, of the institutional neglect of the Pitt’s DPW “maintenance” and upkeep of city streets.
Who will be liable for accidents that occur at these intersections? RICKY?
Excellent points. And coming out of BJs, view of oncoming traffic from right side is blocked by vegetation. Two minutes with a hedge trimmer would take care of this danger zone. Other areas like this around the city. Sometimes little things are important.
But we are getting a ballpark so let us all fantasize about how great that will be. Well not for the taxpayers who will be paying for it for the next 20 years of course but great for the people running it and making cash sums from it without hardly spending a dime of their own money.

The question, “What do these three men have in common?” came across my screen the other day, and it stuck with me. Peter Marchetti, Pete White and Earl Persip. I could have come up with a funny answer and moved on, but something about the question bothered me enough that I decided to actually look.
I only went back about a decade. I looked at elections, Council leadership, petitions, endorsements, campaign contributions and political relationships. And the more I read, the less funny I found the question.
These three have served together in Pittsfield government since 2018. Marchetti spent years as Council President, with White eventually serving as his Vice President and Persip alongside them at-large. They have jointly sponsored policy. White and Persip worked together on Council rules while Marchetti presided. Persip publicly endorsed Marchetti for Mayor. Marchetti contributed to Persip’s campaign. White was at Marchetti’s victory party when he won the Mayor’s office.
Then Marchetti became Mayor, White succeeded him as Council President, and Persip became Vice President. When White later stepped aside as President, it was White who nominated Persip to replace him. Persip became President, and White remained in leadership as Vice President.
Today, Marchetti is Mayor and Chair of the School Committee, Persip is City Council President, and White is City Council Vice President.
Do they always agree? No. That’s not the point, and pretending otherwise would make this easier to dismiss.
The point is that for nearly a decade, three men have remained extraordinarily close to the center of Pittsfield’s political power. They’ve governed together, sponsored policy together, supported one another politically, endorsed one another, contributed to one another, nominated one another and succeeded one another in leadership.
And that’s when I finally figured out what they have in common.
They’re dangerous.
Not because I uncovered some secret crime. Not because three politicians being friends or political allies is inherently sinister. They’re dangerous because this much sustained political power concentrated among the same small circle of people should make every citizen uncomfortable, regardless of whose names are attached to it.
Healthy government needs independence. It needs meaningful disagreement. It needs people willing to challenge leadership instead of protecting relationships. It needs power changing hands rather than simply changing chairs.
Maybe you love all three of them. Maybe you’ve voted for them every time their names appeared on a ballot. That’s your right.
But stop looking at them individually for a minute.
Look at the last decade.
Look at them together.
That’s what changed the answer for me.
We have one bigger problem, who’s going to run against them?

Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti has been waging his “War against the Underclass” residents with his CRUEL proposals that failed to pass, along with the closure of the high-needs Morningside Elementary School.
Marchetti’s proposals were wrong because he wanted to please his BIG campaign donors and other wealthy supporters. Of course, his proposals and closure of Pittsfield’s inner-city elementary school were also CRUEL and INHUMANE.

As for why you aren’t finding anything in the MA Courts database, there’s a pretty simple explanation: a legal dispute can exist long before there is a lawsuit to search for.
Someone can retain an attorney, send a demand or notice, threaten litigation, or begin whatever pre-suit process may be required without ever filing a complaint in court. Depending on the type of claim, there may also be specific notice requirements or waiting periods that have to happen before a lawsuit can even be filed.
None of that necessarily creates a court case.
The MA Courts database generally shows you cases once something has actually been filed with the court. So searching it and finding nothing tells us there may be no filed case under the names searched. It doesn’t necessarily tell us that there are no attorneys involved, no legal claims being asserted, or no potential litigation.
But it does make the wording important.
My guess is that the city received an “intent to sue”.

Read on another local blog that Michael Obasoban, Chief Diversity Officer was caught lying to the City Council about his expenses. Does anyone know any more information about this? If this is true, was he reprimanded? He makes a pretty hefty salary from the taxpayers dime, why does he have to lie about his expenses? Culture comes from the top.
When people repeatedly describe bullying, intimidation, retaliation, favoritism, or being afraid to speak up, eventually you have to stop treating every incident like an isolated personality conflict and start asking what kind of culture the administration is allowing—or creating.
That responsibility ultimately lands on Marchetti.
If department heads believe there are no consequences for treating people poorly, they’ll keep doing it. If employees learn that challenging leadership makes their lives harder, they’ll stop challenging leadership. And when everyone underneath the mayor learns that protecting the administration is safer than questioning it, congratulations: you’ve created an organization where accountability goes to die.
That’s the part Pittsfield should be paying attention to.
A healthy administration doesn’t require everyone to like the mayor. It requires people to be able to disagree with him without fearing what happens next.
If bullying keeps appearing in different rooms with different people, maybe it’s time to stop blaming the rooms and start looking at who’s running the building.
My guess is that an applicant for a city job is subtly screened, as to potential loyalty to the mayor’s office and general agenda as part of a selective process.
i.e. “Are you in favor of spending a small fortune of taxpayer monies for a renovated quasi privately run ballpark/entertainment venue and if not could you please get the hell out of my office right now?”

Pittsfield’s DEI Office’s budget is contentious. The Ward 2 City Councilor and Mayor had a heated discussion. The question is what outcomes has the city’s DEI Office taken place for the benefit of Pittsfield.
The 20-year run of the Scanlon Audit of Pittsfield’s cooked books is questionable. There needs to be an operational audit by a new firm instead of the same old audit by the same accounting firm.
The Massachusetts state government and the Pittsfield’s city budget will face extraordinary fiscal constraints in fiscal year 2028 (July 01, 2027 – June 30, 2028). There may be a need for a Proposition 2.5 override vote in 2027, but it would be unlikely to pass in Pittsfield.
Pittsfield’s Level 5 public schools are seeing more declining enrollment numbers in academic year 2026- 2027.
Next year’s Pittsfield elections will see challengers to Mayor Peter Marchetti’s seat, but the City Council candidates are still unknown.

He has opinions about absolutely everyone. Who screwed up. Who embarrassed themselves. Who shouldn’t be in office. Who handled something wrong. Who deserves a thumbs down. And he’ll happily put people on public display, ridicule them, pass judgment and package the whole thing as some kind of community service.
But there’s a funny little glitch in the Daly operating system: when the scrutiny comes back his way, suddenly he’s the victim.
He can dish it out publicly, but apparently nobody is supposed to discuss him publicly.
And perhaps my favorite part is the endless supply of answers. Mike knows how City Hall should operate. He knows what councilors should do. He knows what businesses should do. He knows how Pittsfield should solve its problems. He can identify everyone else’s mistakes from the comfort of the audience and then retreat to his perch to deliver the postgame analysis.
What he hasn’t done is put his own ass in the arena.
He’s never had to put his name on the ballot, win the votes, make the decisions, take responsibility for the consequences and then have some guy with a camera explain afterward how stupid he was.
That’s the beauty of the cheap seats. You’re undefeated.
And then there’s the self-important wrapping around the whole production. It’s not merely commentary. Oh no. We’re apparently performing a community service. The same handful of businesses get highlighted again and again, the fundraising cup comes back around, and the whole production carries on as though Pittsfield couldn’t possibly function without Mike Daly explaining Pittsfield to Pittsfield.

There’s nothing wrong with being a local commentator. There’s nothing wrong with having opinions. There’s nothing wrong with asking people to support something they enjoy.

So the problem isn’t the tactic. Public criticism is apparently perfectly acceptable. Ridicule is acceptable. Calling people out is acceptable. Picking apart somebody’s performance in public is acceptable.
Unless, of course, we’re talking about one of Mike’s favorites.
That’s not “digging.” That’s selective digging.
And it’s exactly the criticism people make of the Eagle: tough scrutiny over here, kid gloves over there, depending on who’s involved.
Also, “if you don’t like him, don’t watch” is a bizarre defense of a guy whose entire show is based on watching other people and telling the public what he thinks they did wrong.
By that logic, Mike should stop watching City Council whenever he doesn’t like what they’re doing.
But then what would PortaVia and Pittsfield Rye sponsor?
I think overall Mike does mean well for the city and the people. He does much more good than harm. Well intentioned which is something I would not feel comfortable saying about most of the city’s leaders and associated grifter/parasites who relentlessly suck money from the taxpayer pockets.

He clearly loves politics, loves having opinions about the people in politics, and loves positioning himself as an authority on what everyone else should be doing. But actually running? Putting his own name on a ballot? Taking responsibility instead of grading everyone else’s performance afterward? Apparently that’s where the enthusiasm ends.
And that’s okay. Not everyone wants to run for office. But let’s stop confusing commentary with public service.
To me, the show has always looked far more like a vehicle for attention, relevance and local celebrity than some selfless mission for Pittsfield. Mike likes the spotlight. He likes ruffling feathers. He likes being the guy people are talking about. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with any of that. Just own it.
Because the “I’m doing this for Pittsfield” halo gets a little crooked when the scrutiny isn’t applied equally. He has favorites. He has people and businesses he repeatedly promotes. He has people he’ll go after and others who seem to get a much softer touch. That’s not unbiased watchdog journalism. That’s commentary with relationships, preferences and biases attached to it.
And after all this time, what has the program actually accomplished for Pittsfield?
What policy changed because of it? What entrenched problem did it solve? What measurable improvement did it produce? Who benefited beyond Mike, his audience, and the familiar circle of people and businesses repeatedly featured?
Maybe he means well. I’m not inside his head.
But “well intentioned” and “effective” aren’t synonyms, and neither one automatically makes somebody a public servant.
Mike has a show. Mike has opinions. Mike has an audience.
Fine.
But Mike Daly isn’t sacrificing himself for Pittsfield. He’s getting something out of this arrangement too — attention, influence and a platform.
Let’s at least stop pretending otherwise.
