TRUMP-BIDEN 1 ‘ANIMAL HOUSE’ REDUX, WHICH MEANS THE PRESIDENT WON

PLANET VALENTI NEWS AND COMMENTARY

(FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE, THE WEEKEND EDITION OCT. 2-4, 2020) Given that there will only be ONE ISSUE from here to Nov. 3, THE PLANET today follows up our previous column, dashed off minutes after Trump-Biden 1 (T-B1). With time to reflect, we also engaged in a political experiment by going back and selecting two previous presidential debates, Kennedy v. Nixon in 1960 and Carter v. Ford in 1976. After that, we rewatched T-B1.

Sobering.

In 1960 and 1976, we had genuine debates. The exchanges were amazing, full of substance, particularly in 1960. In T-B1, we had a “DB8,” a designation from texting, which must stand as 2020’s rhetorical currency. Never did THE PLANET think we’d live long enough to find a medium to make the words on bumper stickers look like profundities.

The T-B1 DB8, of course, wasn’t a debate at all but a remake of the food fight from Animal House.

“This clown.”

“Stupid bastards.”

“Shut up, man!”

Not since Montaigne invented the essay has civilization made such a lengthy move — in this case, in the wrong direction.

Trump’s strategy became clear from the start: Get in the steamroller and put it in “drive.” Why should anyone feign surprise at Trump being Trump?

It worked.

The President’s interruptions and bombasts dangled like bobbers on the lake’s surface. A cooler, more composed Joe Biden would have let the bait stay there. That’s what our coaching to the Vice President would have been. Let Trump go off. You be the adult. Instead, Uncle Joe bit, got hooked, and Trump played him beautifully. Biden would have won this hands down had he kept his cool, acted “presidential,” said less, and allowed moderator Chris Wallace to be the “bad cop,” a role Wallace was more than willing to play with the President. Instead, Biden stepped into the ring, where Trump ate him up.

Lost opportunity for the Biden camp, a win for the President.

First topic: the Supreme Court. Biden said Americans should “have a say” on who gets to fill the vacant seat, spouting the standard line of the party that doesn’t control the Senate. Lost opportunity for the VP. Trump jumped on it, responding that Americans DID have their say. Republicans took back the White House and added to their Senate majority. “Elections have consequences,” Trump said, like a professor lecturing a clueless student.

It set the tone for the remainder of the “debate,” one that turned on Trump’s typical rumbling style. Using interruptions, Trump managed to wrestle control from helpless moderator Chris Wallace and keep Biden off stride. It’s a bullying tactic, and it worked. Biden’s many fumbles with words and the flatness of his prepared zingers didn’t come from nowhere. Also, addressing the camera directly instead of his opponent is a move I would advise the Biden team to lose in T-B2. If you’re going to be in a debate, take on your opponent, not the camera.

Biden said he would undo President Trump’s tax cuts, which he claimed were for the millionaires and billionaires. He was either misinformed or lying. The non-partisan Tax Foundation said that every tax bracket received lower taxes under the President’s move, overwhelmingly so for the middle class, with 91% in the middle quintile getting tax relief.

When it came to urban violence, Biden said: “Antifa is an idea, not an organization, that’s what his FBI director said.”

“Antifa is a dangerous, radical group. They’ll overthrow you,” Trump replied.

Each guy was splitting the middle.

FBI Director Christopher Wray did say his agency is investigating those who identify as Antifa while committing serious crimes.

“Antifa is a real thing. It’s not a group or an organization. It’s a movement, or an ideology may be one way of thinking of it and we have quite a number, and I’ve said this quite consistently since my first time appearing before this committee, we have any number of properly predicated investigations into what we would describe as violent anarchist extremists and some of those individuals self-identify with Antifa,” Wray said.

On the environment, who do you think won? Trump called for better domestic forest management. Biden backed off of the Green New Deal and pledged $20 billion to Brazil for rainforest preservation. Size it up yourself: Taking care of U.S. forests vs. $20 billion to a country famous for corruption. Which do you think scores with more American voters?

We have two more presidential “DB8s” scheduled. Aunt Millie is sure to keep the windows open.

The VP candidates square off Wednesday.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

By interrupting, Trump saved Biden.

Hello Dan Valenti, The special interest, corporate K Street D.C. lobbyists wrote Trump’s tax cut bill, which was voted for only by Republican Party Members of U.S. Congress without any of them reading the thousands of pages of bureaucratic creative accounting and financial jargon that Mary Jane and Joe Kapanski could never comprehend. In order for Trump’s tax cuts to work, the U.S. economy needed large growth in our nation’s GDP. Since the COVID-19 pandemic and 2020 economic recession, the economic losses in GDP has been in double digits. U.S. budget deficits are now in the trillions of dollars. It is an economic nightmare! President Trump and our “part-time” U.S. Congress have put multiple mortgages on our country’s future only to save Wall Street and the Billionaires who received most of the gains in the national income. Our country has record unemployment, millions of displaced workers have lost their healthcare insurance when they need it the most, state and local governments are facing huge budget deficits, and we are heading into the Fall flu season compounded by the coronavirus epidemic. On Biden, I agree with you that Biden should not be proposing tax hikes and growing the already large federal government, while post industrial America is sinking to rock bottom. Biden has been a career politician for 47 years, and he has been a do-nothing since 1973. Biden cannot run on his public record because it is lackluster, and it is a story of D.C. Beltway politics that has been disconnected from the rest of America. In closing, I think both Trump and Biden are poor choices for American voters on November 3rd, 2020. Best wishes, Jonathan Melle

The goal is to build a middle class not to make billionaires.Tax cuts are not ideas.Tax increases are not ideas .They are policy. One policy raises taxes beginning with people who make 35,000.00 per month. The other policy is to take the wealth out of the economy before it helps build a society that requires simlle funding of schools roads and military which kick the can down the road to your grandchildren.Tax policy has been designed by the rich and powerful for 40 years.Sucking so much money from society you now support a president who wants to stop funding SS,MEDICARE POSTAL SERVICE and Public education.Greed is uncontrollable in its accumulation of wealth as there will never be enough.Like any addiction money is the strongest. The wealth is so huge you can not understand it.There is plenty of money and very little goes to society at large. To keep this wealth Trump has given you a race problem so you don unite. You have been suckered by all wealthy people. They are against 7.25 minimum wage…

Greed is uncontrollable which is why socialism/communism always fails. A small group of people have all the money and power to dole out as they see fit. Corruption easily sets in as does tyranny over the people. Listen to the people of socialist/communist/Marxist countries who are begging Americans to learn the lessons of their countries and do not go down that dark path.

Lots of money and most of it in the hands of extremely wealthy Democrats like the Obamas who on top of their other wealth earn 1 million dollars per year from Netflix. They use their money to fund Marxism and globalism. Why don’t they practice what they preach and live simply like they want the rest of us to do? Americans are so blinded by the fairy tales these people are spinning that they can’t see that these already wealthy people will have even more money and power in a socialist/communist society.

Sorry Dan, I wish I had a dollar for every time Trump acted or said something stupid and his defenders then try to spin it as his “brilliant” strategy. Trump didn’t play anyone beautifully. He was a loose cannon, with no control and acted desperate like a caged animal. I can’t say much for Biden’s performance either, but Trump’s was far from beautiful and he certainly didn’t eat Biden up. The whole debate was pathetic and a sad reflection on where this administration has taken the country.

Biden is the trojan horse of tyranny. If you support communism, socialism, marxism….then you will get tyranny. Biden has spent his 47 years of being a swamp creature with the sole purpose of enriching his family through close ties with Russia, China & the Ukraine. He is a liar, plagiarizer and demented senile fraud. Kamala Harris is busy raising money to free the rioters who have been arrested for looting, destroying property and causing mayhem. Harris, rejected by her own party in her quest to seek the Democrat presidential nomination, will become your president if Biden is elected.

Trump is the only one standing between you and tyranny. He’s a fighter, an American businessman with a spine of steel. He has eradicated ISIS, revived the American economy, lowered taxes – for a complete list of his accomplishments visit http://www.promiseskept.com.

The government’s number one job is to protect its citizens. Some on this blog want the government to provide for all their needs – to them I say get a job, work hard and you will be able to live comfortably in the land of the free.

Want to be ruled by a one world tyrannical globalist government? Vote Harris/Biden.
Want freedom & capitalism? Vote Trump/Pence!

IRS data on the 2018 tax season released in May 2019 shows that savings for taxpayers were uneven. For example, the average refund was $90 higher, nationally, in 2018 than 2017. But the taxpayers who saw the largest refund increases had an adjusted gross income (AGI) of at least $200,000. Tax returns showing an AGI of less than $100,000 paid less income tax overall, but returns with an AGI just above $100,000 (many middle-class families) owed more tax, on average. Note that this AGI is per tax return, not per taxpayer: A married couple where each spouse has a salary of $65,000 could very well have an AGI of just above $100,000 if they file jointly.

On the whole, low-income families appear to have received the least savings, while high-income families saved the most. Middle-class families saw mixed results. The biggest winners from Trump’s tax cuts were probably businesses. Between 2017 and 2018, corporations paid 22.4% less income tax. The total value of refunds issued by the IRS to businesses also increased by 33.8% nationally.

Dan, by saying Trump’s tax cuts benefited the middle class you are just promulgating another of the endless lies told by this administration. You know it’s not true, Trump knows it’s not true and hopefully his addle-brained supporters in the category figure it out very quickly too.

Not if you’re Donald Trump, at least not on the Federal level. But I was referring to percentages, and someone making $347,000 saw a tax cut of 2.9% while someone making $65,000 saw a tax cut of 1.6%.https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-tax-plan-consequences/.

That being said, there’s a limit to how much I think we should tax any individual, regardless of how much they make. This is America, and there’s no shame in being successful. I actually think 25% Federal tax is more than enough to tax anyone regardless of income, but you really can’t easily unwind the system at this point.

However the biggest waste was the corporate tax cuts. Most businesses just bought their own stock back or pocketed the money, they did not reinvest it in into creating new jobs which was the load of crap that was used as justification.

I guess that depends upon if you could actually get them to pay it.

An in-depth analysis of Fortune 500 companies’ financial filings finds that at least 60 of the nation’s biggest corporations didn’t pay a dime in federal income taxes in 2018 on a collective $79 billion in profits, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy said today.
If these companies paid the statutory 21 percent federal tax rate, they would owe $16.4 billion in federal income taxes. Instead, they collectively received $4.3 billion in rebates. The analysisCorporate Tax Avoidance Remains Rampant under New Tax Law, examines 2018 corporate financial filings that have been released to date. It provides an initial, comprehensive look at how corporate tax cuts under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act affected the tax-paying habits of corporations.
“For years, corporations have manipulated the system to avoid paying taxes, and it’s clear that the 2017 tax law did nothing to change this,” said Matthew Gardner, a senior fellow at ITEP and lead author of the report.
The tax-avoiding corporations are some of the most profitable, recognizable companies in the world, and they represent a variety of industries, including technology, energy and gas, financial services, aviation, pharmaceutical and manufacturing. Earlier this year, ITEP reported Netflix and Amazon paid no federal taxes. Other companies on this list include Chevron, Delta Airlines, Eli Lilly, General Motors, Gannett, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Halliburton, IBM, Jetblue Airways, Principal Financial, Salesforce.com, US Steel, and Whirlpool. The complete list is at https://itep.org/notadime.

So then that is the fault of the congress who wrote the laws, not the corporations who followed them. Just like you taking tax breaks you are entitled to.

jon doe

That is correct. The whole corporate tax structure needs to be completely overhauled as the current system encourages corporations to avoid taxes by setting up shell companies overseas. And the tax laws regarding commercial real estate are particularly egregious as they allow you to depreciate the asset even though it might be doubling or tripling in value. One of Trump’s favorites. Though in his case, I think it will turn out there is plenty of fraud and illegal tax evasion involved. Time will tell.

So one thing that’s weird is that every news site since the beginning of the campaign and first debates have all highly censored comments or have suspended commenting entirely. Even a lot of entertainment sites have shut off commenting

Most of these sites are heavy left liberal agenda news aggregators or entertainment sites. Like Yahoo! HuffPo, MSNBC, TMZ, etc.

They say it’s in the name of civility but it seems more like a way to allow them to make up news and not get called out on it

Well the mayor has just appropriated $500,000 to fix up the Springside House. And she asked for the council to bypass the fiancnce committee which they did. And that is on top of tens of thousands for a friggin dog park at Burbank Park. It is great that a city with garbage all over its roads, a homeless problem without answer and streets almost beyond repair has so much money for such things.

I guess in some alternate world a mayor might flip the priorties but right now we got to fund the kickback stuff and that is just sad as hell in these tough times.

Of course Tucker would say something like that. That is what he gets paid for. Why does Tucker spend his whole life trying to tear America apart at its seams? Just how much does Putin pay this guy? He never says one word that might suggest the two political parties compromise or get along. Always devisive.

That sounds about as unhinged as the lefties saying Trump doesn’t even have Covid. Has the US mentally come apart at the seams?

Surely, Iran could place a press operative with Covid to go sneeze on the President if it was that easy to reach him and they are so lazy about guidelines.

If we are shooting fish in a barrel why bother trying to do anything right?

On the news on TV last night (1Oct2020), they said that the U.S. airlines already received a $25 billion bailout from U.S. Congress & Trump earlier this year of 2020. Then they said that the U.S. airlines are asking for another $25 billion bailout. Should the U.S. taxpayers give the U.S. airlines a second bailout, or should the U.S. airlines have to learn what it is like to live as the U.S. taxpayers who don’t get $25 billion bailouts from the federal government? Remember the 2008 multi-trillion-dollar bailouts of Wall Street and the Billionaires? The financial geniuses who destroyed our country’s economy gave themselves huge bonuses with our taxpayer dollars. Do you think we still live in a capitalist society where risk and reward are what drives our once great economy? Or, do we live in a Heads the Billionaires and Wall Street always win, and Tails the U.S. taxpayers always lose because we have to bailout the top 1 percent? I believe we live in the latter. If the economy does well, then we have capitalism. But if the economy tanks, then we have reverse socialism.

I remember the GM bailout that started with TARP and Bush, then went feral with Sotero.

First thing GM did, with US taxpayer cash, was build a brand new factory, IN BRAZIL. Thanks Barry!

They should bail out the airlines and then cut medical care for the working class. Then bail out the farmers, oil companies and pharmasutical people followed up with eliminating social security. It seems like the logical way to get te country back on its feet. Maybe give congress a raise and more vacation time so they can feel good.

The family foundation of billionaire George Kaiser, an Obama fundraiser, is one of Solyndra’s big investors. The issuance of new loan guarantees to additional green companies despite the Solyndra scandal. “Now here we are, $535 billion in wasted taxpayer dollars later, and it seems that the administration is intent on going full speed ahead. Steve Scully, the moderator for the next presidential debate, served as an intern for then-senator Joe Biden, and also served as a staff assistant in Senator Ted Kennedy’s office – two of the most high-profile democrats. A pic posted on the internet shows besties Biden & Scully smiling & posing together at a 2016 “Biden Beach Blast.” Scully has also criticized Trump on social media.

Massachusetts General Laws

CHAPTER 275. PROCEEDINGS TO PREVENT CRIMES

Section 2 Complaint of threat to commit crime

“If complaint is made to any such court or justice that a person has threatened to commit a crime against the person or property of another, such court or justice shall examine the complainant and any witnesses who may be produced, on oath, reduce the complaint to writing and cause it to be subscribed by the complainant.”

Besides threaten to commit murder, it is also a hate crime

Call up Wynn and Tyer. Ask them why this is ignored or tolerated?

Hello Clarence Fanto,

I read your op-ed in the Dirty Bird (Berkshire Eagle) online today (3-Oct-2020). My response to your analysis of the 2020 economic recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and U.S. Congress’ refusal negotiate a new stimulus bill, is that both the Republican and Democratic Parties stink! The Republican Party is horrible for its hypocrisy on the filling of U.S. Supreme Court judicial vacancies. The Republican Party is even worse for its hypocrisy on federal budget deficits and the $27 trillion and rising national debt. The Democratic Party is horrible for all of the time they take off by calling the U.S. House of Representatives into month-long recesses. After Speaker Nancy Pelosi passed a political stimulus bill this past week, the U.S. House of Representatives are now on yet another month-long recess. Pelosi knew full well that neither the Trump White House nor the McConnell U.S. Senate would vote for her new stimulus bill. Pelosi is playing political games instead of staying is session to truly advocate for the neglected American people. On Beacon Hill, the Democratic Party controlled Massachusetts State Legislature has not held a formal legislative session since July 31, 2020. Smitty Pignatelli and Adam Hinds and company haven’t done anything at all for over two months and counting. Beacon Hill hasn’t passed (or even proposed) a state budget after over 3 months and counting. Massachusetts state government is facing a multi-billion-dollar state budget deficit, and the State Legislature in Boston is playing financial shell games instead of addressing the needs of the taxpayers/citizens. In closing, I believe that you, Clarence Fanto, should address the failings of both the Republican and Democratic Party politicians in Boston and Washington, D.C.

Best wishes,

Jonathan A. Melle

Biden would have had the death count in this country in the millions with his nonsense about it being racist to stop travel from China. Lots of intelligent females of all races and males of various races too will be voting for President Trump, so don’t make this a white males only issue. White males are people too and that just shows racism against them.

The only thing Biden and the squad will lead us to is total government control over our lives using the virus to keep everyone in line. Add his calling climate change the existential crisis of our lifetime and you can the picture, or maybe you don’t, but the end result will be greedy big government involved in every aspect of our lives. Joe’s cokehead son, Hunter:

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/oct/4/how-treasury-dept-tracked-overseas-cash-pocketed-b/

Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden flatly denied at Tuesday night’s debate that his lawyer son took huge sums of money from corrupt oligarchs and Chinese communists during his vice presidency, but Treasury Department reports show that Hunter Biden did receive the money.
President Trump chose to make an issue of Hunter Biden’s cash haul from Russia, Ukraine and China with the implication that unsavory figures were trying to buy Vice President Biden and the Obama administration.
“When somebody gets 3½ million dollars from the mayor of Moscow,” Mr. Trump said.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/sep/30/hunter-biden-burisma-payments-detailed-treasury-de/

“Why did he get it?” Mr. Trump asked.
“That report was written for political reasons,” Mr. Biden said.
Mr. Trump asserted, “Once you became vice president, he made a fortune in Ukraine, in China, in Moscow and various other places.”
Mr. Biden responded, “That is not true.”
According to the senators’ Treasury records, it is true.
In April 2014, President Obama made Mr. Biden the point man in Ukraine, after the Russian invasion, to persuade leaders to rid the country of rampant corruption.
The next month, Hunter Biden showed up on the board of directors of the energy company Burisma Holdings, which the State Department considers corrupt, as it does its oligarch owner, Mykola Zlochevsky. Hunter Biden’s business partner, Devon Archer, already had secured a spot.
Over the years, Burisma paid the two more than $4 million. Treasury records show that 48 wire transfers from May 2014 to February 2016 totaled $3.4 million. The money went to Rosemont Seneca Bohai, a shell company run by Mr. Archer in partnership with a Chinese investment fund.

Why has no one questioned Kamala Harris’ eligibility to become (Vice) President?
Under Article II of the Constitution, she is ineligible due to the fact she is not a natural born citizen. Though born in CA, Harris’ father was a citizen of Jamaica and her mother a citizen of India.

God forbid Biden gets elected as president, removed from office due to cognitive impairment, and Harris – as ineligible to be president – is forced to pass the torch to Pelosi – if she is still House Speaker.
Nightmare scenario, but possible. Part of Pelosi’s plan?

The whole Biden election would be a nightmare scenario. They hate the country and want to remake it into their vision of Marxism. Their close ties with China make it even more frightening since China has used a virus to get what they want and, if successful, and Biden wins, it will just prove to them that viruses can control elections or give them more power. The far left wants to get rid of elections anyway because the people will no longer have a say in big Marxist government.
